Hi Suzi. We did our biometric appointment this week. (second attempt, system was down for the first) but had to drive to Santarém. Sad to see the effects of the fires, but as you say, nature will bounce back! We need to do a trip there soon as we have not been there yet!

The best time is May or Early June when the temperature is nice enough for the beach but not too hot to walk. The beaches are beautiful there and empty until the holidays begin

Congratulations on getting the residency sorted, must be a relief for you. It's good to see nature mending herself after the fires, it's such a shame so much Pine & Eucalyptus was planted in vast numbers throughout Portugal as it's ugly, burns so easily & doesn't provide much for birds or animals. Native broad leafed trees would be so much more attractive, less of a fire hazard & contribute something to the country. Maybe eventually it'll be slowly replanted & the plantations of ghostly trees will disappear. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you Annie. I agree with you about the Eucalyptus. The area of Arrabida is a protected area and has it’s original vegetation which is why it’s protected. No Eucalyptus and lots of ancient trees and plants grow here. Now in some areas of Portugal, especially around the villages the Eucalyptus is being felled for fire prevention but in Portugal there is so much of it that was grown to make money!

@@dreamlifeportugal That's very good to hear, yes money making but so destructive, very short sighted sadly. You've picked the right area!

Hi Suzi.. how do you spell the name of your village? Can't find it on the map.

The village I live in is Passagem in the region of Vieira de Leiria. It’s on Google maps. It’s next to a place called Boço
