I'm so glad this post appeared in my feed. I've been needing to replace my cover, and I haven't been able to find a plain old replacement in Walmart, JoAnnes, etc. I have a giant ironing board, so you've given me the kick in the pants to make my new cover. My projects are all piling up!

Beautiful ironing board cover, Miriam. It fits so snugly and you don't have annoying strings underneath👌 Sure, another inch or two on the sides would've been good, but you acknowledged that yourself 😊 I don't think it will move around too much when you are mainly pressing patchwork on it, but if it does, no doubt you'll whip up another one😂 It will certainly look great in your new studio, but in the meantime it will cheer up your bedroom workspace ❤

I like the cover! Great colors, and your tutorial is spot on. If you have trouble with movement, an easy fix would be to take some wider elastic and sew or pin it in two places under the board maybe a third down from the "Nose" and a third up from the end of the ironing board. That would give some stability to the width of the cover. It's a really cute cover. You are so talented!

Love the cover. I want to make a rectangle board that fits over the top of the ironing board. I feel that will help me iron larger quilts. I love the fabric and concept was great. I LOVE patchwork as well, but I'm thinking we don't see a lot of patchwork ironing board covers because there should really be a totally smooth surface where we iron. Not a ton of seams underneath that could cause marks. Just my thoughts 😊 I might still make one to put on a vintage/antique board to hang as a decorative element though!

Thats so dang cute! I agree with you that it needs like 2 more inches on each side, and as an fyi.. if you pin the elastic end to the fabric that will hold it as well or pull lots of extra through first. And sew the elastic ends together to hide it and close up that hole in the project. I was thinking you could use those open corners to pull excess elastic through which could make the insertion and tightening parts easier maybe? Super cute idea!!

You might want to stabilize the patchwork with a couple of ditch stitches to reduce the amount of rubbing that the patchwork piece can do against the solid piece. I can see this as being really helpful when you wash the top, as that will create the most rubbing. I worry that the friction will induce fraying along the seams and cause your top to break down sooner than you like. Especially since you made this washable, it should be able to last a long time. A great job you can preserve for a long time.
@StitchObsessedАй бұрын
Great tip!

That is very cute and I love her Fabrics. The fabric with all the Vintage irons on it would also make a really cute ironing board cover. I'll be interested to know if the seams will be a problem in getting your fabric ironed flat.

I haven't made a cover, but I did make an ironing board. It isn't as long as an ironing board, which is problematic.. but it is wider than the ironing board, which helps with fat quarters, at least! :D (semi-related.. I long for the day that we can get a full rectangle ironing board :D)

I have an extra wide ironing board I bought from Target decades ago. It’s been recovered many times. Right now it’s has a thick wool pad cut to fit from Amazon and a cover I made from one solid piece of fabric. I like my surface to be extra smooth. I make garments along with quilts and other projects. I find running my hot iron over anything with a ridge puts a permanent mark on my fabric but I like the idea of more color in my sewing room. I’m curious to know how it works out for you.
@StitchObsessedАй бұрын
Yes, it will be interesting to see how well the patchwork cover works! I'll definitely make a follow-up video if I find issues with it! 💖
@DebbieKuhn-r2sАй бұрын
Love it. You could have left the opening and made an elastic casing on the edge from those points and closed it from those points
@susansmith9791Ай бұрын
Just a tip for next time, you would have had a little more fabric if you had just sewn another seam around the ironing board cover instead of turning the edges under. Then you could feed your elastic through that channel. Once you get it fed through attach your safety pin to the fabric instead of the elastic so it doesn't accidentally get pulled in. Once you get the elastic the correct length you can tuck it inside the channel and then so the opening closed. You did really well for someone who has not had a lot of experience with this kind of thing.

I had so many problems buying elastic in 2020 that I wound up buying a lot when I did finally find some. How much is a lot? I did behind the head style elastics so there would be no ear chafing and made well over 200 masks. I might be a third through my supply. On the plus side, I don't think I'll need to buy this size for a long, long time. I've been making scrappy little projects out of some of the leftover mask fabric. I've now got some cute little 4in x 4in project bags to help keep me organized. I'm going to make a thingy to hang over one of the inside doors to sort incoming mail for myself, my partner, and our roommates. And I'm making a ginormous quilt, as well. The goal is to use the fabric so it's not just sitting around collecting moths.
