Yes, a mixture of clay and straw.

Maybe the wall between the small room and kitchen used to be straight instead of having this weird bump into the small room? Removing the paper in the kitchen should reveal traces of that if it was that way.

Our current belief is that wall did not exist at all. Maybe it was added to create the small room, or maybe it was added to support one or more damaged beams. We'll find out soon. If the wall would have been straight, it would end in the middle of a window. But, maybe that window was a later addition as well. Thanks!
