Hey man, the engine looks good. Not sure if I missed it but I wanted to hop in here and mention that if you are running main studs, the machine shop has to line hone the block with the studs installed on the mains. You cannot install studs on these SBF fords with out having it line honed. They’re thin wall castings and the mains will move with the studs and eat bearings. I’m not sure if you had it line Honed but I wanted to throw it out there.

I'm also watching instead of the Super Bowl. I swapped out a 240 6 for an original 289 HO in my 71 short box F100 back in 1978. Loved that high revving 275 HP mill with the three on the tree. Good luck with that engine, sounds promising.

I know I am adding a comment a few years after this video was just posted, I just found your channel. The best advice I can give you is don't listen to the people that give you crap for trying. You guys built your own engine and it worked! You built it on a limited time frame and it did last quite a while with your foot denting the floor board under that throttle pedal. Keep thinking outside the box.

Craig I wish I lived next door to you. I'm retired and live across the country from you but wish I could be there working on the Galaxies (I had a 62 when I was a teenager) and the F100. Love the old Fords, I can work on them because they're from my era and a lot of fun to play around with. My dad had a Lincoln Town car like yours and was indestructible since they share a lot of technology with the Crown Vics. Ford perfected them and I hated to see them go. I know a lot of police hated to see them phased out.

Hey bro awesome videos, writing from New Zealand. With regards to your f100 and the rusting, a friend of mine has a 66f250 quite similar to yours, I also have a jailbar my pride and joy!. Our weather and humidity are probably way different but a trick I learnt from him and applied myself to preserve the patina is to scale the rust back with a wet sand, steel wool or a wire brush on a drill , and coat it a couple of times with a rag in pentrol oil. You could also use clr (citris lime and rust remover) to help remove excess and treat the rust which will darken it or just skip the part like my mate done for a more authentic look. Every month or so you will need to rub on another coat which is easy done , don't make the mistake of clear coating, it'll just oxidize. Just a trick I thought worth mentioning. Keep it up looking forward to future posts👍 Cheers Joe

Tons of guys mentioned it but you cannot run studs without a line hone. Studs deform the caps more than bolts and will cause irregular bearing wear and loss of oil pressure. I would also deck the block as you are .020" in the hole. You may not want to make it zero deck based on CR but a zero deck will offer better quench. Keep it up! I'm interested to see what your long rod 306w will do? Typically the long rod has less piston side load when the piston dwells at the top an bottom of the stroke. This is why OEMs like long rods less knock/piston slap based on the geometry which is better for engine longevity. Contrary to that short rod engines USUALLY seem to RPM faster. Engine building is almost a compromise on everything you do. Not to be pessimistic but rod ratio has very little affect on an street engine built from off the shelf parts. Just look at a 408w which makes great power and tons of torque and has a horrible rod ratio. Really looking forward to the build!!!

@young119842 жыл бұрын
Check your PCV screen under your PCV valve, they are notorious for stopping up then building crankcase pressure in the end consuming oil. Just a simple check to clean it anyway if you havent done it yet anyway. “Didnt build it to make it last i built it to have fun with it” most accurate comment ever for a gear head, if you build them for longevity you wont learn near as much or tend to enjoy it a lot either. Build it for fun and if it breaks well you had fun anyway and learned about why it broke when repairing it.

I know your shooting for higher rpms but wouldn't a dual plane intake be better since you'll be doing alot of street driving?
@young119842 жыл бұрын
Not really, maybe a little low end loss on a dyno sheet but not as much as you would think. I had a stock 88 5.0 engine in my 83 with a dual plane and made 291hp@6300 289tq@ 3500 with no other changes but minor jet change to cure top end lean out i only lost 8ft lbs of tq at same 3500 but gained 14 at 3900 and 21hp at 6200. So i gained hp at a lower rpm and picked up a bit of tq 400rpm higher in the rpm band, it felt a lot more responsive and actually picked up a bit on 60’ at the strip and just over a tenth in et too. Went to turbo not long after so it became a monster pretty quick for a stock engine set up
