I am a designer and color consultant and you are doing everything right -larger samples, room orientation, and a point of inspiration - the artwork. I recommend the darker yellow, and that is a classic period color (an ochre) which has been used for centuries as a paint color. Its also similar to India Yellow by Farrow and Ball. The artwork looks outstanding with that color. Also, in classic design with color, you could utilize a 60/30/10 format: the ochre is 60,% the sage green in the artwork could the 30%, OR the beige "sky" in the art being the 30%, and the black of the frame 10% could be in elements such as lighting, or one of those ebonized spindle chairs you purchased a while back. Natural linen also looks wonderful with this palette, for the curtains and the coverlet -thats both French and contemporary, and soothing and airy for the bedroom -the ochre in the walls being the predominate "hero" color.

I like the yellow tones as well, but vote for a lighter version of your blue tone. Browns and reds are not restful tones, which is something to consider for the room you want to sleep in.

Prefer the green or a blue over Muscavado. Also dark colors will absorb heat more and can fade faster in a room that gets lots of sunlight year round. Although it’s cool outside now, in the heat of summer a room that reads heavy and warm like Muscavado can make it even heavier/warmer/stuffier. Color theory suggests going with cool light tones in a heavy sunlit room. In dressing rooms, I prefer the most neutral tones so that clothing and accessories are their purest tones for selection… you don’t want clothing selection to be altered by the wall color reflection. Everything you’ve done so far is beautiful and I’m sure this Suite will be the same.

I think the yellow/gold tones would look best. It’s cheery and looks almost neutral so you could add color/drama with curtains, bedding and pillows. A dark color would fade quickly in the sunlight and is better suited for a library. Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together 😍😘As always love the humor 😂😂😂😂😂

All the Ziggy colors are so lovely! He walked into the frame when you were talking about the colors and I had a little moment just appreciating this combination of colors that seem to all have been chosen with him in mind. You've done the "muscovado" burnt umber one in the dining room so no need to repeat that, same with that grey-green. Go for the yellow ones in this gorgeous south facing series of rooms. It'll be lovely with unbleached natural linen colors for drapery and bedding, and it looks so pretty with the artwork. Use other colors from the painting in the textiles like soft furnishings, pillows, towels and such. Use unbleached natural linen lamp shades with lamps that are dark like the frame on the artwork. In the bathroom you can go the opposite for drama - strong contrast with rich smokey dark chocolate walls and light buttery colors in the cabinetry and plenty of brass fixtures that will just gleam. Put an eclectic collection of antique gilded framed mirrors on the wall in the bathroom, collect them from antique shops and estate sales. That'll conjure magic with the light that room gets! Then in the dressing room on the other side, go back to the softer yellow ochre palette of the bedroom. It'll be dramatic and lovely! It'll be fun to see it all come together! I know it's exhausting and overwhelming, and the decision fatigue is real, but it will come together. Using a professional designer can really help make this process less stressful because they're actually far more detached and able to see things realistically than you are. I realize it sounds like an insult and I don't mean it to be, it's always a hundred times more challenging when it's your own home, even when you have excellent taste and have worked as a designer for many years. Plus a professional designer should be able to show you a curated collection with textiles, furniture choices, paint colors, metals, and fixtures so that you're making your decisions in that context and not just one by random one - which is so much harder. And please, this is not meant to be insulting! I'm just mindful that you're making big design decisions without much helpful input, and that can be really stressful. But no matter what you do, if you plan the design of this Primary Bedroom Suite ("Master Bedroom" is less used these days) around your gorgeous dog, you can't go wrong. Ziggy is a work of art!

Regarding the color for the dressing room: For myself, I prefer not getting dressed in dark color rooms. It makes me feel like I'm getting dressed in a room without lights and I cannot find anything. I'd also consider choosing a color which will not reflect onto the clothes I'm trying to match. Which tie goes with a yellow shirt in a blue room reflecting green tints onto a yellow shirt? Dilemma!

agree - the clothes will appear different in the dressing room if there is a lot of color on the walls -- tinting the light bouncing around in the room. Also warm, side lighting will make you feel better about yourself when you're standing in front of the mirror.

The B&B is on hold till they have finished all of the rooms, they were finding juggling the renovations with the KZbin and the B&B just too much at the time it’s in one of the past videos. They have some other buildings on the property that also needs work. It was a tossup between KZbin and the B&B and the B&B lost the toss as they were having so much fun doing the KZbin at the time. But once the Chateau has been finished they said the B&B will be back.

I once painted a room with the goldish yellow. I came to grow very tired and almost angry with it. The reddish colour is warm and cozy and more comfortable than all the others. It also goes well with the blue/green. Mirrors and artwork can lighten the saturation of the colour. Just one opinion, you always come through!

Mirror the cupboards. For the higher up racks you can get a pole with hook, sold at higher end organization shops or custom closet stores. They also have racks that be lowered and raised which I have and love. Great channel!

matching door facades on each side of the room. Look into a "California Closet" type solution with pull down clothes bars that are supported by air pistons that help raise and lower the bars. Each closet could have double the storage space.

Calif. Closet wall hanging brackets all broke in our house, every single closet had that weak system... it may utilize space, but it's poorly constructed, so, they did not make a good wall mount, it fails, and all system will sag and pull out of the wall and become a huge mess. Hubbie had to put up vertical poles in several places to support weight of clothes on those weak wall mounts that failed, in every closet as all wall mounts broke down over time. And you cannot slide clothes as you could on a rod, because it's not a rod, but a wire box... Not a fan.

Don’t worry about moveable rail, just get an extended pole with a hook 🪝 similar to those used in clothing stores to reach high rails. Yellow tones and matching height doors in the closet to mirror the extant ones (obviously with the bespoke layout behind)

I really love the muscovado!! It’s a stunning and captivating warm colour, I have the paint sample here too and it immediately stands out. There is definitely enough light to get away with it, with the south light it does need a stronger colour. I dont mind the deeper, darker yellow either, but the light one gives me 80s magnolia vibes (and not in a good way).

I loved the dark color that resembled the frame of the painting. It would be nice for the wooden paneling. (I would go for a darker "base" and a lighter upper part). I imagine there might be a "print" involved on the walls, so I'd go for that caramel shade that is in the middle of all those nude shade samples on the wall.

@@madolynway6612 Madolyn, a typical brick or granite or stone wall will generally have an insulation value of one or less no matter the thickness. A typical insulated modern wall may have a value from ten to twenty while a ceiling may be 40 or more. The real problem isn't the heat but rather the moisture which will condense on that cold stone wall just like it does on your iced tea glass in the summer and cause mold on the plasterboard next to it. Good on cheeses sometimes, not so much for some other stuff. Vapor barriers are important. Lack of them is how houses get "sick" sometimes. Sometimes what we don't know can hurt us. Jack L.

I tought that for sure that is the first thing to go. But 7 years later it's still there. It's oddly cozy and comforting.

My vote is for lighter colours. I personally love a light and airy bedroom and wardrobe area. Feels bigger. For me it feels calmer, more peaceful. Also is it for yourselves or for guests as in are you planning to reopen it as a bnb?

I would mirror the doors but look at storage shelves at a higher level for out of season clothes and see if you could source one of the racks that pull down and out so that you can hang two levels of clothes - maybe Phillipp 's at the higher level. Then have the shallower cupboards on the opposite side for accessories and items that can be folded and stacked. Also consider lighting inside the cupboards - maybe USB lights that are motion activated.❤ We painted the inside of our wardrobes in a very deep red (Farrow and Ball Incaradine) so that the wardrobes feel like a jewel box when you open the doors. I think it would also be nice to paint the island unit in one of the deeper colours to make it an eye catching feature. Loved the way the picture popped on the deeper colours. Maybe you could create some silhouettes of your family or features of the chateau or the church to play on the black contrast you like. Check out Lionpic for great choice of picture frames which you can buy as lengths or cut to size. Sure they could post to France if not deliver to your parents. ❤

With such rich colors absorbing the light I suggest adding frosted glass to the top cupboard panels. Be sure to prewire the cupboards for leds and the automatic door switches. I use a pole with a hook to place and retrieve garments in my top cupboards. Since you'll have limited wardrobe space in the new cupboards, add rails in the top half of the existing shoe/bag cupboards. This will allow you to rotate your seasonal wardrobe from the new primary cupboards.

I really like the ochre with anthracite combination. I could also see it working as a wallpaper with the anthracite as a base layer, lots of ochre ornamentation, and then the panelling in the same anthracite but with a more satin or even glossy paint finish. Have you considered painting the wall from which the samples were hanging in a darker colour (combination), like a feature wall, and having a more subdued colour for the remaining surfaces?

re double hanging: In the costume area of an opera house we used a simple, normal closet bar on the top. An old fashioned window pole with a bracket on one end made it easy to to access the clothing. It slipped under the hanger enabliing us to quickly bring down or put up the clothinng,

I actually love all of those colours together!!! A wallpaper using all the colours together with the lovely mustard yellow as the main paint colour would look amazing. The paint color that is closest to the color of Ziggy. The middle yellowy gold one on the top three colors. That one is my favorite! I love it with the black accents!❤❤🎉

Love the schemes, difficult to really appreciate the colors via video. I’m rather partial to what appears to be a yellow ochre tone and am very intrigued by that very, very dark brown near black. I also don’t think the blue is too dark for the bathroom. That said I’m partial to darker more saturated tones. I’m sure it will all be very lovely whatever the colors may ultimately be.

I personally love the color of your plasterboard for a paint color in your bathroom, it edges on a regal jewel tone that plays a huge part in the rest of your house paint colors, but is fresh for a bathroom, and the dark green/blue color you said looked black in the bathroom for your dressing room w/ accents of the golden rod yellow! I feel like a brown or red could distort the perception of colors when putting outfits together in that room...

Phillip, as a meditator, I am very interested in and very grateful for the way the music you choose affects my mind and attitude. I prefer the lighter tones. The golden color looks nice. As much as I prefer golden (my whole house is golden butter color) supposedly you should use cooler colors in south facing rooms. Especially in parts of the world that are hot for long seasons. But rules are made to be broken I always say.

I would take down the existing wardrobe. Use the doors for a new and deeper wardrobe on the other side of the room. This way you keep the fireplace free which will make your room beautiful, functional and save on costs too

I would choose the lighter more neutral colors for the walls and use the darker colors for accents, pillows and other bedroom decor. If I had a south facing bedroom I would want it bright and airy! 😊

Think the colours work well together. The dark colour could work in the bathroom but it will depend on the tiles, flooring and sanitary wear which could be enhanced by the colour and/or could 'lift' the colour

I vote for mirroring the cupboards on the other side of the room. I love your humour, Philip. I laughed out loud on the smelling glue thing. I’d go for the Harley green. I like dark bedrooms because the light wakes me up. Whatever you choose will be wonderful. 🤗🇨🇦

As well as a education watching your videos, I get so much joy (the music is awesome) and laughter when looking in on Phillip’s renovation in your lovely chateau. Anna, you must love him for his courage and amazing sense of humour. The girls will most likely inherit his charm. As far as designing your master suite, you will get a lot of use with having more hanging space; lower and upper. But make sure to add small lower drawers near the floor. If the room is bright with sun, stay warmer and darker in colorscheme: Madeleine and chocolate are both wonderful.
