The seams and the moulded-on stringers look really bad on the kit (that's not a criticism of your assembly work). The Airfix Saturn V from about the same time, had (has) the same problems.

@Gross Models, I built this kit in the mid-1980s and really enjoyed it. Thinking of getting another one even though my 69 year old eyes "ain't what they used to be". It definitely needs some aftermarket upgrades that weren't available then, but it's still a fine kit. Just takes a little work and some patience. Thank you for jogging my memory and giving me some inspiration! I almost forgot to mention that Educraft Diversions sells a crawler and launch tower for it that would make an extremely impressive display!
@GrossModels

Thank you, if you still have the old one it would be interesting to see it compared to what you can do now! I’ve never really got into upgrade parts, I see how they can add to a build but I quite like getting an end result that anyone can get from the same kit.

@@GrossModels, I can do a bit better now than I did then, but my skills pale in comparison to many other modelers. The old kit I had was lost in a move somewhere in a move long ago but I'm willing to try again. When I started building models around 1957 we had only tube plastic cement and didn't even know that decals stuck better to a painted surface than to bare plastic. Again, thanks for the videos!

Four-year-old video, but still relevant in this age of SLS & StarShip. I built this model, but made it in the “launch” mode. If it wasn’t needed to hold the parts together, or were not visible, they were left in the greeble box. Dry-fitting seams for no gaps, & Plenty of Tamiya thin made a solid base, and scrap strips with epoxy reinforced all the joins. It’s one solid monolithic piece, and I don’t worry about it falling apart when I move it Plenty of wet sanding Two coats of white primer One semi-gloss white coat Semi-gloss black Kit decals All done with no hurry or obsession Looks great I love it I will take a bit more care with my Bandai 1/72 Saturn, but I build for fun, pleasure and personal satisfaction, and an totally deaf to complaints that ‘There are only 33,456 rivets, not 33,457 like in the REAL one!!’ Too many modelers forget the ‘fun factor’ (Unless it’s your job to build accurate models)

@GrossModels

Hi, you can just paint white where it needs to be, but it's much easier to just get it all white then paint black over where you need it black. You can't do it the other way, white will never cover black well, but black will still be black when painted over any colour!
