Reverse Light Switch Replacement

Replacing a faulty reverse light switch in a Nissan Micra K12 from years 2003 to 2010. If your reverse light doesn’t work and you’ve changed the bulbs and checked all the connections and it still isn’t working, it’s possible that this switch may have failed. If the sensor has three contacts, then it not only turns on the reversing lights, but also informs the engine ECU that neutral gear on manual transmission is engaged. If the three-pin sensor breaks down, an engine malfunction may occur with a diagnostic code for the neutral sensor. This will cause the CE light on the instrument panel to come on. There is no such sensor on automatic transmissions. Instead of a reverse sensor, an inhibitor is installed there, connected to the automatic transmission selector. Information from the repair manual: To check the sensor, disconnect its electrical wiring connector and check the continuity between the sensor contacts. Note. The contact numbering (1-2-3) goes from left to right when the connector latch is facing upward. There should be continuity between contacts 1 and 2 when reverse gear is engaged, and between contacts 2 and 3 when the manual transmission is in neutral. There should be no conductivity in other positions.

Thanks for detailed information about "three contact sensors". My Clio 4 car also has three contacts. I've replaced the switch. Now my reverse light works. But somehow car computer gives error about stop-start system and hill asistance error. Do you know what can be the problem?

I'm not sure if there is such a switch on the automatic gearbox. It might be integrated into the gearbox somewhere but I don't actually know. I've never worked with one, sorry.

I can make the reverse light go on by pressing the switch manually but it’s doesn’t work when it’s inserted into the gearbox. Can you tell me the issue inside the gearbox and the name of the part to replace it

I don't know what's happening inside the gearbox to be honest. Is it a new or old switch and was it previously working ok ?. Is it definitely the correct switch for that gearbox ?

It could be a worn out switch. The transmission might not push it all the way to touch contacts like you can with your finger.

Nice tutorial mate, is this the same rough procedure for other cars? I have a Megane mk3 and have changed the fuse for the reverse lights but they still don't work, my next step is to change the switch.

Thanks. A lot of cars with manual gearboxes have a very similar set up. Depending on the position of the switch, you may need to drain the gearbox oil or be ready to plug up the hole as soon as you remove the switch.

Found 32005-6J00A for K12, K13, T31 (Xtrail) on parts page Manual Transmission case & clutch release (unit) BUT it appears to be 2 pin plug. Tridon says TRS081 which is 3 pin (dual normally open switch) 32005-00QAE is correct for 3 pin Reverse/back-up switch
