I agree 100%. Anybody can put nice plastic interiors in...the tailgate is a gimmick IMO IM concerned with reliability...period. If a guy is gonna spend $67k on a truck it better last 10 years and a couple hundred thousand miles without major problems. I know tons of coworkers who bought the 6.0 Powerstroke and after spending almost $50k on a truck then had to spend another $8k on making it reliable. Thats robbery IMO. Although i love this review and hope he does more....IMO the real facts will be known once this 3.0 fleet starts to reach the 100K+ mile mark...once the warranty is done and they have been on the road for 5+ years then we find out who was swimming naked after the tide went out. 5.9 Cummins 12V no problem...but it remains to be seen how the emissions stuff and longevity of the motor behaves over time.

100% Keep doing these reviews! I personally am only interested in your mechanical expertise. No one else in KZbin land gives info like you do. I live in Mississippi rust isn't an issue, but I have been burned when it comes to diesel trucks. had a 6.0 ford, 2nd Gen Ram Eco Diesel. both motors blew, had an 08 Duramax also lots of mechanical issues but not drive train related. The only diesels I have had luck with are the 7.3 (2-1995 models, 97, and 02). I currently still have my 95 f-350 Choo-Choo custom dually. Never had a Cummins so I can't speak to those, i know they are good engines. I am very interested in this truck you reviewed tho. I would likely buy the Sliverado just to save the money, even tho I think the Sierra looks better.

As is our entire Throw away economy. Something breaks? Don't fix it, buy new! More consumption makes shareholder driven companies profitable.

10:27 I’ve seen four or five year old GM trucks with their frames completely rusted. I live in Michigan and the amount of salt we dump on our roads just kills cars. GM’s wax-coated frames are not helping anything. Wax coating works in the south where the wax stays softer, but up north it just flakes and peels right off which traps moisture and dirt against the frame which accelerates frame rot.

I might consider a GM if they improve their quality. There are a lot of these trucks making several trips in to the dealer with major issues as they rack up a modest amount of miles.

I've worked at GM Truck Paint and Final assembly. Building new lines from 2014-2020. Had no Idea the frames were not painted. They were shipped on railway boxcars. Maybe from Canada. I did notice on the 2020 line final inspection there were small hand pump canisters with spray wands sitting at every station. Anytime they had media coverage at the Plants. All the trucks on display were inspected and detailed before they were shown. I'm surprised they didn't detail the truck before they let you review it. I've been told that that Paint on a new truck is the biggest cost item to the build.
@TheBrokenLife
@TheBrokenLife 4 жыл бұрын
@@Hanzyscure Whoever told you paint was the highest cost item was almost certainly wrong. The engine typically represents about 1/4-1/3 of the cost of all trucks from light duty all the way on up to class 8. There's no way a paint job, applied by robots, costs GM than a motor. Now... In machinery required on the line for production? I could easily see the paint shop being the most expensive building on the campus.

Great review. Loved the fact you showed the frame! You're right, they need to do better on rust protection, and the prices are getting silly. I've got a 2015 Ram 1500 and I plan on keeping it, but I do worry that they don't make trucks with longevity in mind, and that the 10 year obsolescence will be a problem. Mind you they've built alot, and with the Ram Classic they're still making it so hopefully parts won't be an issue. Any idea why they put the timing chain on the back of the motor?

I don't think i would ever buy a truck for personal use. And if i owned a business that needed trucks I would avoid diesel and replace them every 3-5 years (depending on mileage). And if you need to haul stuff cross country and you "need" diesel, I would get a damn semi. Honestly having a diesel (especially nowadays) in a light-medium duty rig makes no damn sense, especially considering the extra cost of diesel now.
