@@acidlab9586 1000000% agree!! Appreciated a lot your comment. This is why I bought just few very important gears, and will keep them all my life, because people NEVER MASTER their rig, they just replace them and again and again… We are infinitely lucky to live an era where machines are very, very, very powerful and deep. What it means is we can enjoy them during a whole life before being limited… People’s skills are limited WAY BEFORE their machines… Consumption. Anyway Always the same story, people being lazy with their brain. The best machine we’ve all got.

Excellent idea about a firmware update to allow the H90 to act as a mixer for 4xmono inputs, 2x mono and 1 x stereo or 2x stereo. This would make the H90 a instant purchase for me. It's expensive but I don't think the price is unreasonable at all, comparable with many other studio quality alternatives. Most people aren't barking that a Strymon Timeline and BigSky combined is outrageous, and I think you're getting far more with this Eventide. Is it essential? For a lot of people probably not, including myself. But I think it's a really solid choice for anyone looking for top notch sound and maximum versatility in a live rig or studio processor.

Now this is a real studio unit. Powerful, rich, and pricey. I love it, but where I'm at I would have a hard time justifying the price tag for an effects unit. I get that beginning hobbyists aren't the target though, of course. maybe if I get to a point of making income from it, I could justify the cost on something like this.

Exactly my point...I had the H9000 for a while and loved meddling in algorithms myself. But this is targeted to guitarists who seemed to be overwhelmed with the classic H90 app already, so they did not want to get into the support business one needs to provide if VSIG is open to all. I asked if we could see a 4 algo,2CPU rack unit in the future or a paid for VSIG and both was answered with maybe :)

2 H9s here and a Space, I prefer the Space due to knob per function, not a fan of having to use the Ipad to control the H9s, it's added expense and cumbersome. SP-H9 is a great pedal to change hot knob in performances. I can appreciate what the 90 does, just that I already have 1 H9 Max and 1 core which is upgraded to a Max for free. I will still check this out as you can never have enough pedals, thx for the upload.

Think of it like this..... this is a Strymon BigSky, Volante, Timeline, Mobius, Dig, Flint, Zelzah, Sunset, Deco, El Capistan, Lex, Brigadier, Orbit, Ola, and some of the NightSky, all in one box. It holds its own and often surpasses (in multiple areas) things like the Line 6 Helix, Boss GT-1000, and the Fractal Audio stuff. Really, it is great value for money and if Eventide support it for years and years to come with firmware updates, then really I don't see the price as a con, nor am I put off by it. I ordered mine instantly, and am digging into it and loving it.

Great overview as always. At the same total cost I went a different direction. For my setup I have moved to using an iPad ($300) over USB to an audio interface ($300) for effects processing. My mixer ($300) has 4 mono send/stereo returns to the interface/iPad which runs a variety of effects. I figure a lot of folks have iPads and 4 channels in AUM with as many effects each as you want is a LOT of go juice. Different strokes for different folks and the H90 does have a number of advantages over that path.

@@loopop Other Desert Cities and Enso from Audio Damage are both steals compared to PC prices. Eventide themselves have a (relatively small) number of their most popular effects which can only be considered pricey compared to other apps on the platform. Klevgrand Modley is an absolute must "effects box" rabbit hole. To me H90 is tough to beat for form factor and relative ease of use. However, for the same cost an iPad, interface, and analog mixer with 1 stereo and 6 mic/mono ins & 4 separate mono send/stereo return effects loops does extract a size and complexity toll, but is more vastly more deep & wide.

To be fair, that $899 is probably exclusive VAT/sales tax, which differs per US state but is often much less than our European VAT rates. On top of that there is import tax, so that’s the difference plus some extra margin for their effort to ship these. Still, I feel this thing is overpriced. Should have been priced below €1000 imho. It seems like a fantastic upgrade to the H9 and a pedal I really want to try in my setup. I just wish (and perhaps this is too much to ask for) that, over USB, I could use the algorithms inside of my DAW while the pedal is connected to my Mac (a sort of Virus TI2 type situation). That would open up a world of possibilities to me that I would otherwise have to bake in during recording. Or use as part of a send on an established track. Maybe it's something they can add down the road. Maybe it's only something I want. Ha! Regardless, it'd make this an instant buy for me. As it is, I still want it, but as I'm mostly a studio musician, I feel like I won't get as much out of this pedal because of the nature of my workflow. Still. Sounds amazing. Great review, as always.

The great thing about the H9 app is that I can switch quickly between any of 9 algorithms on my phone. I just have to tap the relevant icon on my phone. If I swipe left on I can instantly access 9 more. On the H90 it seems its either Select Mode which means scrolling through a list (not very practical for live performance) or Bank Mode which gives you access to 3 programs ( a total of 6 algorithms). But in the latter case you have to select the bank and then select the program. So to have the same accessibility as the H9 ( 9 algorithms) I might need to tap two footswitches. Tap and hold to scroll through the 3 banks and then tap again to select the algorithm . So 3 interactions with the pedal instead of 1 compared to the touch of 1 icon on the H9 app. Also the screen is small and difficult to read from a standing position on stage. So it seems the H90 is more designed for home studio use, not really for live performances.

If you’re a guitarist then I agree but for the dj booth is awesome and for the studio is simply perfect. Still, I’d like to be able to control the app from my iPhone too instead of needing the computer or an iPad.

Thanks for the thorough review, as always! For me, this worked the opposite way and I just pulled the trigger on a brand new H9 Max, which I got on a discounted price. The H90, as awesome as it seems, is too much for my needs, and the seemingly “limitations” of the H9 Max entice me more, to get results faster (less controls to mingle), and be more focused on doing music than losing myself in the endless possibilities.

I was literally just trying to determine if it would make more sense for me (as a guitarist & recording artist) to pick up an H9 or an Eclipse V4... This new pedal makes that an easy decision, AND it includes the 2016 Reverb algorithm, which is super-exciting.

We’re heading into inflation hell and some of these manufacturers (it’s not Eventide by itself by a long shot) now create/release tremendously expensive devices… that’s a bit of a bummer. Yeah, I get they all didn’t see it coming, but it’s a bit jarring.

@@ZenMountain It is not me who is including anyone. That’s being done all over the world due to ‘circumstances beyond my control’. Fact is groceries and fuel have increased in price by about 20% or so. Electricity and natural gas are up around 100%. Same can be said about the other end of the spectrum, like iPhones, iPads and MacBooks. All up by at least 20%. I’ve already been in hell this year. My wife almost died and my mother got an heart attack. Not many good things happened in the world this year. So forgive me for sounding negative. Making music is one of the positives in my life atm. This pedal is great and I would buy it for €999, but not for the €1199 it will be sold for here in western Europe. Not sure where you got that ‘paranoia’ remark from? Negativity… maybe, but paranoia?

Well besides weirdo pedals like the mentioned zoia, there's also a bunch of multi-fx amp pedals like the line6 helix stomp, hotone ampero, boxx gx-100 that can do a lot more than this for less of a price. pitch shifting, harmonizing, delays, reverbs, modulation, overdrives plus amp/cab modeling. also, am i getting this right, the H90 has the DSP power to run 4 algorithms (spillover) but eventide only allows you to REALLY run 2 at a time?

Unfortunatle Eventide removed the "endless" Spill Over option from their last OS versions. They said it was causing issues with the device and they can't support this option. So either this is correct and was putting too much permanent load on the DSP or they recognized that this way the customers got more or less 4 parallel effects (with some limitations). As you said you could use the looper with endless spill over time plus an effect and two additional effects. So another option then is the Mooer Ocean Machine having two Delays, a Reverb and a Looper all at the same time which can be reconfigured in terms of routing on the fly while the effects are running. Of course the FX quality of Mooer can't compete with the Eventide ones.

Only hesitating on this cos I have the eventide space, a great stereo delay & already set on getting the meris lvx. The pitch stuff would be nice & I know it can do so much more but I’m spoilt for pedals, tbh I prefer external routing & it’s a lot to pay if I don’t need the reverb & delay! There I think I’ve successfully talked myself out of it 😃 Now excuse me while I go and consider the merits of a dual digitakt setup 😂

👍 as always. well... I have two H9s, first was for my guitars pedal board the second for my synth rig... but both ended up on my board. I wasn't feelin it with the effects on top of synth patches, it was too much, what do I program then, my effects or my synth patch? pre and post H9's for my guitar is definitely doing it for me. also, while the H9 is hard to program, it's not impossible and in a year of having my first H9 I pretty much forgot about the software. This is a fantastic seeming pedal but I don't think there's anything here for me.
