The best years of model making for Hornby in my opinion. Detailed, reliable and great motors. Sounded quiet given the age and looks great even in the plain livery. Nice video Adi

You make my day. The Great Western 2-8-0 Heavy Freight Engines, preserved status, do indeed haul passenger trains. On a gala event, they are called upon to haul demonstration freight trains, as their main line of work is heavy goods trains. They aren't quite as strong as the larger 9F engines of Standard design, yet they are good at what they do.

Super well detailed review. I'm not a fan of the draw bar design either. The screw at each end is better. You have a lovely locomotive. I like the cab detail especially the dials. I believe these were occasionally pressed into passenger services at busy times. Your model looks like a good runner. Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.

Nice review I may look at getting a 28xx class at some point as it would complete my collection of locomotives currently in Swindon’s Steam museum. I was only there yesterday actually as they had a model rail event on and ended up buying a limited edition wagon from the 2874 trust. It’s made by Dapol and they are making 2874 as a special edition with a donation to the trust for every model sold just as they did with Dinmore Manor, all goes to restoring the prototype.

Hi Adi, a really good and comprehensive review and a nice model and I think you got it at a very good price. I think that you will be looking at over £200 for a new release at today’s prices. Have you thought about putting drivers and firemen in the cabs ? I use blue tack to hold mine in place so they can be removed if needed. You have convinced me to get a 28XX , so thank you very much. Regards from Ron 🚂👍😃🚂

Hi Great review and fair. I’m lucky enough to have both versions of these. Always run well altho dont get much use as layout not built yet. My plan is to leave them permanently coupled ready for use. Im not a fan of that new tender/loco coupling as seen too many problems with it. Snap these up whilst you can!
