congrats on your j.custom - those models clearly deserve the love. I also had a super nice Prestige 5120M, and I thought it is the pinnacle of craftsmanship. @@Guitars-GearandMusic yea they are really secure and fairly out of the way. Once I figured out how to separate them(I’m used to Dunlop locks as well before this) they work great. Hi mate, thanks for the review, just stumbled upon your video👍your J-Custom is totally dope!. Just want to ask about the neck profile and playability and action, I have a Suhr Modern Pro and ESP Kirk Hammet Ouija and they have the best necks that I have ever played, the Suhr Modern is silky sleek smooth, with the patented extra deep cutaway on the neck for easy access of the 24th fret, while the ESP had a unique thin U-Shaped neck that feels really fast but a bit different with the Ibanez and it has a 0.8mm action on the 12th fret (High E) which is the lowest action possible without buzz. After watching your video you said that your J-Custom got the lowest action of all your guitars and you have the EBMM JP 15 and Majesty (which is already ridiculously low action with the high E around .09 mm at the 12th fret).😮 Like you I always look for the best playability and I also sacrifice a bit of buzz for the lowest action possible, Just want to know whats the action of your guitar in mm and what's the neck profile of the J-Custom.? Thank you!🙏
@angryguyhateseverythingАй бұрын
My J Custom on the high E side I had set right at .07 mm. And actually I ended up raising it up to 1mm. It was just too low and I could not get really clean bends without sounding off the strings above it. Now it was awesome for doing double stop bends, but it was so low that everything became double stop bends. The neck is a typical Ibanez cut which to me is a very shallow C. And I do mean shallow. It is the thinnest of all my Ibanez guitars, but only by a mil or two, but you can notice it. I have never been a big fan of the U shaped necks. I had a Fender HM from the 80's which was pretty cool but that U neck was just too different for me. Now I did have a Suhr Modern and actually my J custom is what took its place. I had a serious love hate relationship with that guitar and in the end ended up selling it. I personally did not like the front pup at all, and I know a lot of people who love it, but there was just something to me ear that didn't sit right and the guitar just never seem to fit me well....for whatever reason. Suhr does make great guitars but the Ibanez guitars just seem to fit me....and for the price....my J Custom was 3k....it was a steal compared to everything else out there.

Great demo. I'm not a big fan of locking trems since I ditched them around '88 and went back to standard trems, but this is a very nice Ibanez. I'm a big fan of the Tone Zone and I love how it pairs with the Air Norton and True Velvet middle. I've been using Tone Zones since they were first produced in '91 and played an old red Holdsworth Charvel with a standard trem and a Tone Zone at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip with a very similar tone to what you have in this video. I was using a Boogie 50 Cal and it sounded amazing. A real Sunset Strip sort of gain. I was never into the thrashy, ultra scooped tones.

I’m planning to get an Ibanez J Custom RG8570z in the future, but I have no idea what kind of amp would be suitable for a guitar in this price range. A friend of mine suggested that I should invest in a good amp to avoid underutilizing the guitar’s performance. He recommended an amp around the 300-600 USD range, but he’s not particularly knowledgeable about amps,either.So i was wondering if you could give me some advice. I’m thinking of buying a second-hand amp. I prefer rock and metal genres, and I like tones similar to Slash. Ideally, I’d like to find a second-hand amp priced between 300 and 600 USD (e.g., original price 900-1200 USD, second-hand for 300-600 USD). Do you have any recommendations for amps that fit the above criteria? Or feel free to disregard my budget and suggest what kind of amp would best suit this guitar as a reference,thank you.
@angryguyhateseverything2 ай бұрын
If you have the money I would probably get an EVH 5150 III. They make the little 50watt unit that is an absolute beast and is probably the most used metal amp out there today. But it also has amazing clean tones as well and the 50 watt head or combo can be adjusted down to 1 watt for that quite playing. If you want something that has effects built in a lot of people are playing the Boss Katana. You can get those new for about 400.00. They are pretty good little amps to get up and running until you have the money to buy an EVH or something to that effect. I use a Fractal FM3 which is amazing, but you will need and external FRFR (speaker).

Great video again! I love your reviews since I saw your video on your RG prestige. Could you please check me something? There are some critic on the Edge Zero that the saddle screws and the fine tuning screws go directly into the cast metal of the trem without using any hard metal inserts. Is that true? How would you compare the clean sounds on this guitar and on the RG prestige you have? Which instrument is more like a can-do-all type?
@Guitars-GearandMusic Жыл бұрын
that is true. The edge zero and such are not as made with as strong metal as the lopro. But is that an issue? No. I have beat my edge 2 trems on which I have 2 guitars with them and have never had even the lightest issue. The only thing that is likely to happen is the parts may wear out a little faster. The edge zero is a better trem then the edge zero 2 but the trade off for me is worth it to get the zps system. As far as sounds, My RGs with mahogany bodies sound a little warmer then my RG with a basswood body. This is the only RG I have with the HSH config so the cleans are definitely better on this guitar. This J Custom is a better all around guitar because of the pickup config and the simply fact that the pickup are not as hot. The 5320 has ceramic pickups and they are burning hot which leans the guitar to a lot more metal and hard rock sounds.

Got the new 8570 RBS and I am astonished how nice it is. It's even better than the 3120TW Prestige, which was my benchmark. It literally plays itself. Every note sparkles, the neck is the smoothest thing on earth, and it's close to perfection. Only thing I don't like is the H-S-H the 'S' got in the way of pick , so i lowered it, lots ! I only really use bridge and neck, so no big deal.

@Guitars-GearandMusic Жыл бұрын
Well they will play the same but the two guitar are a bit different. the 8870 has an alder body which will probably make it a little more punchy as the 8570 has african mahogany which give you a little darker smoother tone. The have the PAF in the 8870 as opposed to the air norton in the neck so there will be a bit of difference in the tone but both will sound great. The 8870 is a chambered body so it will be a little lighter which may also add to the punchy-ness of the tone. However, you cant go wrong either way. The J customs are simply amazing guitars.

I always replace them with Ibanez Sure Grip II's in black or amber. That really annoys the Gibson purists, but they are so much better. @Guitars-GearandMusic Жыл бұрын
That would be a good comparison video. May do that one. but first would have to get a hss guitar, which is doable. I would do a HSH or just a HH. Most jazz guitars, like the es335 is an HH configuration. Another great jazz guitar if you can get a good one is the parker deluxe. It is also a HH setup. for blues the HSS would be better but then you have the blues greats like Gary Moore that played a Les Paul. I use a HH or HSH for blues. I just like that fat tone of a good double in the neck spot. And for metal, soloing on the front is awesome. Your 64 is not a bad unit at all. If you get accustomed to that I would probably move to a LP next and that guitar will cover it all.

@@Guitars-GearandMusic So you prefer the premium rg 1120 over the s1070pbz? I've never played either, but I've been looking at both, or the prestige RG5320 in cosmic shadow, but the price difference is 600.00 I can save buying premium. And the premium models come with locking tuning machines. And the zps3 for the edge 2 tremolo, oh and SS frets of course, I just gotta have em now days, I don't want anything else. The Evo gold wire is good 👍, but just not for me. I prefer the life time durability of SS frets.
@Guitars-GearandMusic Жыл бұрын
Yes. I prefer the 1120 over the 1070. It just suits me better and I love all the room up at the 24th fret. My hands hit the horn on the 1070 and that drives me crazy. Also the 1120 just has so many sounds with the switching system. As far as the frets. The 1120 has the EVO frets and I have played the hell out of it and still have 0 wear. Nickel has a hardness rating of 350. EVO is 375 and SS is 400. But once you have stainless then nickel is no longer an option.
@DiMarzio-Tone Жыл бұрын
@@Guitars-GearandMusic Well, I just wish the 1120 had a tone knob, and a five way pick-up switch. So how is it you get more tones out of a double humbucking guitar, compared with the s1070 trio of pickups, a five way switch, and a tone knob, I'm not sure how that'd work. Unless it's purely a preference thing which I can understand that. And are the necks close, or is there a huge difference between the two.

Why do you want locking tuners on a floyd rose?
@Guitars-GearandMusic Жыл бұрын
It makes changing the strings so much easier. Especially at a show. I used to take 3 guitars to shows, each with its own tuning....and that is all I took. If I broke a string at a show I could literally change in about 1 min with locking tuners. With standard tuners it would take several minutes. With locking....pull the string through...lock it....tune it....done. It is just way too easy...especially if you are a gigging musician.

@@BFHPET I'm not against locking tuners. I have them on three guitars. But they have a fixed bridge with no locking nut. When using a locking nut that are a waste of resources, time and energy. The locking nut gives that guitar it's tuning stability. A J custom is one of the most tuning stable guitars made. Don't you think if they could make it more stable they would.

One of my favorite guitars is the Ibanez 1120. It is an Indo guitar with EVO gold frets which I love, DiMarzio Fusion pups which are amazing and they took off the tone knob and completely moved the volume out of the way. I sent it back to suhr...and 10 weeks later still no guitar. Got a refund and ordered another one. Had it for about a year and could never really get a feel for the guitar. It never quite fit me. I did got one without the floyd which I should not have done. But then I got the J Custom. Dude, everything on if feels better. The neck is extraordinary and the Ibanez trems are the best on the market. They literally disappear under your hand. Also, I prefer straight radius necks. I would take the J Custom every time over the Suhr. And it is a thousand cheaper. That my friend is a win win.
