He’s is lucky to be a J3A Hudson, I mean he probably gets all rail fans with that glorious built.

A tip for the noisy smoke unit: open up the smoke unit itself and add a single drop of lubricant onto the metal rod that sticks out of the DC motor. Eric has a video on how to do it if you need a more in-depth description. Overall, great model!

Killer video and consist. I have this same engine but I'll be looking to buy some of those GGD cars when I find them.

Thanks! These cars are great, easily some of the most reliable in the fleet.

5 chuffs??? I hope they didn't charge extra for that. LOL! In all seriousness, nice job on the video ,and nice looking locomotive over all. Mr. Muffin is a first class dealer. Lionel has tooling for a boiler front without class lights, who knows why they didn't use it. This tooling is from Lionel 2002 J3a offerings 6- 28072 and 6- 38041. The 6- 28072 has class lights. The 6-38041 is from Lionel 50th anniversary hudson set 6-31705 and has a boiler front tooled with no class lights. IMO this is still Lionels best looking j3a to date with actual polished extruded aluminum cylinder heads instead of just silver paint. It seems as of late Lionel always falls short of a perfect model, be it paint or otherwise, but often did a better job with a TMCC version aside from the sound of course.

Wasn't the K-Line Hudson a J1e? This was the mold that was created for the 2002 50th Anniversary Set and Separate Sale J3a.Did you notice that the font on the cab and the tender is the modern Gothic font while the font on the number board on the boiler front is the old Roman font. The number board font was changed when the lettering was changed.

After a little google research you're right, the K Line model is a J1e. Also I missed that on the lettering, weird that Lionel did that.

I think you have a bad smoke unit on the main stack.
@KsModels5 жыл бұрын
It is a possibility, but when the engine is running slower the smoke output increases. If the wick or element was bad I feel it would be consistantly poor smoke output.

K's Models sorry to hear that. The J3a is one of my favorite steam engines. I think I am going to pass on this engine and get the Niagara instead. I have the Vision 700E from 2010, which is based on a J1e.

@@DavidRamirez-ww5kv The Vision 700E is a cool engine, got to run one at a friend's. The Niagara is a great engine as well, better care went into its production in my opinion.

Electric motors tend to gobble power as load increases, my swag(scientific wild eyed guess)your board is not designed to compensate for this hence you motor becomes a thief,so to speak.
