Man, Lionel has gotten so much pricier than when I was a kid. Though the new speaker systems are fresking awesome, so it explains the price bump. Model railroading in general is such a rich man's hobby now adays.

This loco is based on Lionel's prewar 700e,one more in long line of scale Hudsons,all of which have been more expensive than toy trains Lionel makes

I purchased this. It is by far one of my favorites. It does indeed have PT smoke and it is flawless in operation. It seems that they pay a little more attention to detail on the NYC locos, Make sure the sand dome is seated properly or you will get smoke leak out of the inside of the dome, which incidentally, is where you add the whistle steam. Unlike previous versions of Lionel anything, this one does not give that annoying radio buzz sound when you apply power, prior to starting up. Best money I have spent in a while and I do spend a lot of it...

A nice looking engine, only problem I can see is that J3's didn't have boiler front marker lights to my knowledge. I have the Al Stauffer book Thoroughbreds, you don't see markers on the J3's

@funone87165 жыл бұрын
@@professional_fra_violator Yes, I'm familiar with those as well. The Live Steam and large scale crowd places high values on their equipment, but try to sell them a machine tool or hardware for the shop and you'll find they don't part with their money easily.

Lionel living off their name again... they couldn't even get the feed water heater right on the smoke box. Yeah the larger size is nice, but if I'm going to spend that kind of money I'll go LGB or stick to 1/8 scale at least there's detail. 1300 dollars for chinese stamped metal. No thanks. Good review, you guys always do that, but I'm sorry, I wouldn't give it 200 for it.

Thank you! Neither has a presence on KZbin, but you can google either of them and their main websites will come up. I’m currently working with Jesse from Little Engines to make a promo video for the 0-4-0 special he is running. It’s going to be a month or so out though.

@TheSteamChannel5 жыл бұрын
I’m not all that familiar with Railroad Supply locomotives. Jesse at Little Engines is an excellent machinist and the LE variant can pull a long train loaded with people. Until the promo is finished, you can see some footage of one under steam in our Cheap and nothing wasted railroad videos (Andermann’s railroad & engine) in our live steam playlist.

I have a 265w tinplate Tender that's almost like new. Someone had it in a case for decades - it's hardly been used at all. Even so, it makes a grinding sound when it whistles. Any help would be appreciated.

Ive always thought lionel and mth would kill model trains with their crazy pricing, like this $1350 engine. Thank goodness for the used model train market although the 70 percent of my large mth engine collection that is more than 10 years old, almost never run, but have many problems due to the mth attitude of sell it now, offer little long term support for repair, and design them to fail 8 to 10 year out so customers will buy again
@loveoldmovies5 жыл бұрын
Offer this in 2 rail and I'm buying. I can't reconcile all this scale detail and realism with Lionel's 3 rail toy train track system. Other manufacturers and importers can handle offering a choice of 2 or 3 rail, I don't see why Lionel does not do the same, especially for their Vision line.
@thelostcat245 жыл бұрын
I personally don't mind the third rail I just pretend my railroad is from an alternate universe where trains needed a third rail to work properly. Plus I've seen some layouts where the third rail is nearly invisible to the eye with a small paint job

Nice review! Quick question if you think you can help. Do you think or know if this can run on 048 or 036? Have a smaller layout and have some 054 rated stuff that runs on smaller and was wondering what the case was for the Hudson. Thanks!
@TheSteamChannel3 жыл бұрын
The tender wouldn’t for sure. I think the minimum is 054 from Lionel and even that would look odd.
@Owenthestig3 жыл бұрын
@@TheSteamChannel thanks for the information! Really appreciate it. One more question if you don’t mind! Not sure if you will know this but Lionel made another legacy Hudson with a tender that had two 6 wheeled trucks instead of the centipede one in the video. Any chance that one may do 048 haha? Trying to just get as much information as I can before I decide
