FWIW, one thing I'd add to the video is that at least with meats and cheeses, you really do need to slice slowly. Three things can happen if you try to go too fast. First, the gauge plate that the meat rests against will flex, giving you an uneven slice. Second, you could strip the plastic gears out and have to replace them. Not a big deal as they are under $20 from ChefsChoice. Biggest issue though is that you can burn the motor out. In the vid, watch and listen to the part where the sharp cheddar is sliced. You hear the normal whir of the motor before slicing and a bit of a change in pitch when it starts to slice. But listen closely right at the tail end of that slice. You can hear the pitch drop even lower. The long explanation is that with it being a longer piece of cheese, the motor was working harder to get through the end of the slice. Kind of like an underpowered car going up a hill. The longer it's on the incline, the more it struggles. Same with this slicer. Hearing that sound once in a while isn't a big issue. However, IF you try to force meat or cheese through and your motor is making that deeper whine the entire time, your going to burn it up pretty quickly. It's not a Berkel or a Hobart. You aren't going to be able to just zip right through a couple of slices of ham per second. Then again, it doesn't cost $1500 or weigh 100lbs. It's a quite capable slicer IF you work within it's limitations and you don't try to push it too hard.

But how do you clean the blade? I have one. Used it once and realized when I went to clean it that I'd need to clean the grease off the blade and I don't have more grease to apply. Where do you buy new grease, what kind is it. How to you correctly apply it?

This is probably the best video I’ve seen! Of course I’m gonna buy it right now. Just can’t decide if I really need the smooth blade. Does it matter if you use food grade gel lubricant or grease? My dog is gonna love getting a bunch healthy chicken jerky! You almost have a Wilfred Brimley tone to your voice!

You can tell the support for the meat is flexing. Will have to rotate meat and cheese every couple of slices for sure. Or end up with a triangle left over.
@chasemorantz62283 жыл бұрын
With the chuck roast I wonder if it’s better to cook it first, then refrigerate so it’s firm before slicing. But something I’ve heard is an issue with meat slicers, especially the cheaper ones, is the motor will run very very hot and also meat gets stuck in the slicing area and it stalls

Out of ALLLLLL the slicer video's I've seen NOT ONE of these sliced at #1. Am I the ONLY one that likes paper thin meats that can be stack-able? How can I tell if ANY of these slicers are capable ?
@MrJusjones01104 жыл бұрын
They are not able to slice at 1 or less, when you push against them they lose setting .. there is a reason they don't slice at a one with something that requires pressure.. that said they are the best for a cheap and easy to clean price range.

Have your tried doing cabbage with this? Does it make good cole slaw?
@Murzington4 жыл бұрын
If you're doing cabbage just use a mandolin slicer. It will get you good thin shredded cabbage for slaw.
@talkingstick2u4 жыл бұрын
@@Murzington I bought the slicer and made 10# of cabbage into sauerkraut. I could easily do 1/2 of a small head and 1/4 of a large head of cabbage at the time and didn't have to carry the weight of the cabbage in my hands as I would with a mandolin. It works great! Also works great for sourdough Rye and I'm loving my perfect slices of the heavier bread and for that alone the machine is well worth it. I can quickly slice and freeze half of my loaf. On the downside however, I tried to do thick slices for Vidalia onion rings and the slices get only so far into the blade because the back of the machine juts out (the way it is designed) and doesn't allow for the slicer to carry through the motion. I had to make thinner onion rings. So basically the machine does NOT cut thick pieces.
@ML-sm8zc3 жыл бұрын
It's such a noisy device ! My God, I can imagine my neighbours reacting at all this noise at 5 or 6 AM for cutting my bread to make toasts ! And the thickness seems to be a big problem also with those devices. I like my ham cut ultrathin and I think those devices couldn't cut that thin.

Works well with cooked meat. I had bad luck with raw meat (eye of round for jerky). Not very easy to clean. The piece that the blade connects with is plastic. It has broken. I can't find a replacement part. I had to throw it out. I had it for a few years with light duty use. I have replaced it with a small commercial deli slicer. I am much happier.
