What size where these pants? What does your waist measure when you use a string or soft tape to measure it?

Exactly, I dont buy garments from gear makers who dont specialize in garments anymore. The amount of money and time big companies spend testing and designing a cottage company wpuld have a very hard time matching.

I was thinking about buying these for a backpacking trip in Europe in the winter. But I would hope to be able to ski and hike in them. Do you think these would hold up for that?

Warm pants rock. Option I went with was the ee torrid apex pants. 34 length and extra large with 7d in and out. Comes in at 6.08 oz for $150. They breath very well and synthetic so less worry with moisture. Sheet insulation with no quilting so zero cold spots. Exceptionally puffy and fit to me is a bit loose, the way I like. Downsides are won’t pack quite as small. Not going to be too durable for much more than sitting in helinox, sleeping, or worst case hiking under rain pants. Elastic cuffs or draw cords around ankles would be nice. Material looks wrinkly for a while after storage so look slightly more pervy :)

used on the AT last year. stayed toasty warm while in camp and slept like a baby with the extra warmth while in my quilt

do they ever go on sale? I've got the EE Apex pants on sale during Black Friday but wouldn't mind upgrading for next winter!

Sizing of outdoor products has always interested me! Montbell and Patagonia have disappointed me with their explanations of their method in their sales philosophy. Now, I would not begrudge a person, company, or corporation in making a profit but..... At the end of a season, how much of these companies go to consignment with other sales companies. In some ways, they might be the same as a cottage industry company!

Timely video. I just got back from my first solo backpacking trip in Joshua Tree National Park. Weather forecast said low 40s at night ... it got down to 15 degrees F. I just purchased some of these down pants based on your recommendation and some confirming research! Great channel ... thanks!

Lovely Bungzy. Thank you for this update. I had been wondering about these new down pants for a while. They are not in Australia yet but when they are, I shall be picking up a pair too. I have the previous model with the zip pockets, snap stud and zippered fly and I find them good but have longed for some more down fill in them as I got cold spots in places. These new models seem to be what I am looking for. Also, have you tried the UL Thermawrap pants. They are excellent, look sharp and are reasonably warm, can walk in them (like you can with the UL thermawrap parka/jacket) as they are very breathable, are super comfy to sleep in as they use the stretch exceloft insulation through garment. Only downside is they are not optimised to trap heat so they don't keep you as warm as these down pants do when sleeping. They do however have more versatility (and they dry super fast like the jackets) Blue Boy

Well, I think the google gods are watching me, because less than 30 minutes after I watched this video I got an ad for the new Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer down pants. After hearing the numbers in your video, the ad gave me quite a start - the MH pants are listed as 9.6 oz?? With the same 10D fabric as the Mont Bell? Is the 3 oz difference the fill? That seems like a lot of down, but they don't look any beefier than the Mont Bell. Puzzled...

so when they say fill of 3 oz. (85 g) does that change for larger sizes or is it just distributed within the extra 'casing'?

How much warmth do you think they add? A 30* would be good to ...* with the down pants.
