Great honest review, Alan. I was laughing so hard on this video because Kristy and I have had so many similar experiences with low quality stays like this. Your descriptions, and dialog were so funny. Thanks for the laugh. We stay clear of Travel Lodge, Budget Inn, Motel 6, Super 8, Quality Inn, Comfort Suites, Days Inn, and many other similar low budget chain hotels. I have not found one as of yet that was any good for any amount of money. We have decided that we will only stay in 1 of 3 chain hotels when we travel from now on, Holiday Inn, Marriott, or Hilton brand hotels. All others, I think our cabin tent has better quality and accommodations than those those hotel brands we avoid. At least you were able to get out with your wife and that is all that matters in the end. Well done. Have a great day.

Very good in-depth review Alan. We stayed at a travel lodge in Derby a few years ago for a wedding the room was very poor cold like you mentioned no means of heating it. Bathroom cold damp towels in the morning we said we would never use them again.👍👍

I'm staying at a Travel lodge in York center for my daughters University graduation ceremony, I paid in advance and it was £245 for 2 nights!!! Let's hope its a good one for that price. I tend not to eat hotel type food at these sorts of hotels as they are normally combi ovened or microwaved food. Good review 👍

There is a problem with understaffing here and a lot of younger people are moving away to the big cities for work but I always say if you pay people a good days pay for a good days work, you should not have a problem. An honest review Alan. We recently had a crap experience at Holiday Inn. This looks similar. Except our shower didn’t even work. I stayed at Premier Inn Whitehaven and it was spot on. We do tend to search out BnBs as the service tends to be more personal. Hopefully you are booked In some where good for next weekend. 👍🏻🚶🏻‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Hi, Alan and Mrs. Metalman, Thank you very much for your honest hotel review for Travelodge Cockermouth. I have never stayed in Travelodge so very interesting to see your views. OMG, one man does all in the hotel? Booking, Reception, cooking, cleaning, serving, and more. I wonder if you saw a sign, "Hiring " ? There is a lot of "stuff shortage" everywhere. I think we all have to compromise somehow, but room rating, services, wifi, location/convenience, views/ age, and so on. Sanitation in the room seems to come first. Oh.Spiderweb? Oh..bedbugs? I didn't expect meals at the hotel will be satisfactory. It's strange to know you were charged for the internet. Well, we do all agree this hotel is not worth aiming for the room rates to stay? To be fair the best thing about our stay was the bed, which was very comfortable and clean but there was no excuse for the cobweb and the food, both extremely disappointing. We stayed in this one back in August when the Penrith one was fully booked! We noted the garage next door didnt sell alcohol, imagine our horror! 😱 on our second day our key cards for the corridor and door no longer worked. It took us about half an hour to get one re coded cause i guess they are short staffed. Not the best after a long days hiking! We didnt eat there so excited to see the food! Yikes to the spiders! We’d always opt for the Penrith one as its closer to us North East folk and is more central to the fells! Dont take a bright torch otherwise all those cobwebs will show up in striking quality. Thats maybe a tip for their cleaning team! Oh bad news about the food, we wont be eating there. Will stick to the pot noodles and pot porridges in the room! We would stay there again, but only if the Penrith one is fully booked! Great review! 👍

Thanks very much for watching and I was so wanting to like the Travelodge with the prices at Premier Inn going up and I would give them another try but after they get their refurbishment first. part of a night away for us is a nice meal and drink, which we missed out on this time, so that made it even more disappointing. Keep an eye on the prices as it goes into winter as the rooms come down to £26 a night, at that price you definitely cant grumble. We prefer Penrith though from every aspect. 👍

Premier inn every day of the week, did stay in a travelodge at Stonehenge that was very nice but that was a new hotel. Cant beat premier inn beds and breakfast, infact im staying in one in Southampton on Saturday before my cruise to Norway. All the best Alan.

Hi Alan, A good honest review and a bit of nudity always adds to the film and ups the viewing figures LOL. I have to say it looked very tired and out dated both inside and out and doesn't compare to the premier inn at all in my view but has its place for people on a tight budget that maybe just need a bed for the night. We certainly prefer the premier in and its facitlities including usually a pub attached which is ideal and always a good nights sleep. Depite your experience I do appreciate that you directed you dissappointment towards senior management and not that poor lone worker doing many roles including cooking, serving drinks and booking people in all at the same time, I couldn't believe that when you said. Many people would of moaned about him but you didn't and righly so, he is doing his best under immense pressure which you recognised. Thanks for another review mate, very good. Take care.

Good afternoon Mrs and Mrs Metalman ❤️ we have stayed at this very one! Helped extend a stay in the Lakes back in 2018. Ideal when on a budget. Intrigued to see the food in offer, we rarely if ever eat out. Meal deal sounds handy although watch out for drinks prices huhh! 🍔 🍕 Nice that children eat free, that's handy 😀 I'm terrified of spiders too, Kat would habe to remove that 🕷 A sofa would be handy 🛋 the bath image is now burnt into my eyes 😆 fair shout tho Alan, I love a bath but struggle to fit in them, I normally have to take on the pray position 🙏 Sad to hear about the food, again part of the reason we don't eat out. Good honest feedback Alan 👍 👌 Breakfast looked fairly yummy, sorry again the quality on offer wasn't upto scratch. We always stop at the 'Premier Inn' at Cockermouth which is less than half a mile away, so we thought given it is cheaper and PI prices are on up, we would give it a go and I really wanted to like it there.... I would try again but it would have to be in a refurbished rooms or one of their bigger more expensive rooms and they need more staff on site, we felt so sorry for the young lad, who was lovely and trying his hardest. Great review Alan, very fair. Did you give the Travelodge your feedback? We agree, it didn't look great from outside, the chairs were cheap, the spider was awful, and the food didn't look good. Also thought the dining area was very basic, like a school canteen. A good night's sleep though can make all the difference. We stayed in the Premier Inn, Lisburn, before our last trip, just for the room before getting the boat. It was clean, functional, and comfortable and did our job well. As for that photo, well we did laugh a lot!! I hope youtube don't strike you off!!!! Regards, Ashley

Great and honest review. The place looks nice but I don’t like the spider before going to bed. That’s cool it has a nice alcove where you can place your gadget .I don’t mind about the bath tub 😂, I can use the shower. Breakfast looks good. Sounds like you did not enjoy your stay. Here in the US Indian people own all the hotels. They generally close the pool area if there is one and serve continental breakfast only. They operate as cheaply as possible and usually live onsite as well. Several have just become total dives.

It's a real shame as it is in a prime location and to be fair they are in the middle of a refurbishment, obviously not done this one yet. The young lad was trying his hardest but he could not do everything, which is why we did not complain to the hotel itself, as we did not want to get him into trouble. Hi Alan it's good that you do these honest reviews because we need to know these things when thinking about booking places. The spider cobweb situation I thought was really bad especially near the bed and the bath, great photo of you in there but you did look cramped and it did not look big enough at all, Alf is a bit taller than you so he would have struggled with his height too in there. We have actually stayed at this particular travel lodge a few years back, we do remember it needed some updating. We have stayed in both travel lodges and premier Inns, and we do agree Premier inns are of a much better standard. But we guess travel lodges do have their place if budget is particularly important. Bloody hell Alan!!!! With the best will in the world how on earth could anybody watch this film review after seeing you in that bath! It was worse than that film of you in Scales Tarn! I was trying to eat my dinner when I watched this, why didn’t it come with a decency warning? Fully agree with you about Premier Inn v Travel Lodge, you simply get what you pay for. Didn’t know they were opening a Premier Inn in Keswick, I’ll certainly check that out for my next Lakes trip. I’d booked a week at the Kings Head Inn in Thirmere a few weeks ago but cancelled due to the atrocious weather forecast. Take care and watch out for spiders!

The new Premier Inn Keswick is opening at the beginning of December, opposite the Pencil Museum, so in a real good spot and we are already looking forward to visiting it next March. Never mind the compensation for the spider in room or the disappointing food , we need it for the bath shot😯 Travel Lodges are usually very basic, I've stayed in a few, the last time was up in Falkirk over a year ago and they weren't exactly overrun with staff then. Luckily for us they didn't do food so we ate in the town. I would say the one in Blackpool is quite good compared to the standard of some of the hotels (Norbreck Castle springs to mind) and B&Bs and is usually at least clean and tidy.

Most motels and hotels have muffins and doughnuts for breakfast but that's about it. And if you don't get down to the dining area by 9 am you can't get that. 16 stone? I don't know how much that is but if you are 16 I'm at least 42 hahaha! I

It's a simple room, but clean. We had some simple rooms on our last trip, but not very clean. Most places I've been don't offer any sort of food or drink (for supper) and only a basic breakfast. Sounds like the meal deal is a good thing. Shame about the food. Guess not totally unexpected when the guy at the front desk is also the chef, lol.

Too true and he seemed to be everything else as well, which was a shame as he was really trying his hardest and we felt real sorry for him. The room was basically clear but once Mrs Metalman saw that cobweb and spider it was all I could do to keep us there, she has a spider phobia, so unless things change dramatically there, we will not be back there again. Totally agree about the poor lad doing all the jobs and CEOs creaming everything,makes my blood boil! That spider would've terrified me too, who got rid of it!? Curtains look like their from a kids bedroom in the 80s lol

Awe that’s too bad to have a bad experience there. Think places are cutting expenses and cheapening things up. Obviously short handed too,guess they won’t be too happy about your review but honesty is best. 👍👍

Definitely, I say it as I see it and to be honest, really wanted to enjoy the stay there but not possible. The food was awful but we both felt real sorry for the young lad who was on his own and trying his best - not his fault. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

1st off it was cool seeing an American Coors Light in your room lol. Yeah that's crazy one staff member doing 4 or 5 different jobs is slave labor! We have Travelodges in the United States and they are just one step above a Motel 6 which is the lowest you can go for chain motel. Yeah that 15 pound difference is definitely worth it staying at your usual hotel.

Love a Coors Lite and was hoping this was going to be a good stay but man it so was not. Food was awful, which is a massive no no to be and that poor lad running around trying to do everyone's job, we both felt so sorry for him. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Stayed in both through work and the Premier Inn over the other side of the roundabout is like the Ritz Carleton compared to this place. And is also much better than the Premier up the road in Workington.

Hiya mate, I’ve only stayed in one travel lodge , and to be honest …. Never again, I do stay in a lot of premier inns with work and you can’t knocked them, I think you summed it up perfectly on one line … it’s a poor man’s premier inn ! Saying that though if it’s a base camp after a full days hiking it looks as though it will kill more than make do Ahhhhhh spiders 🕷️ !!!! I’m a bit of a clean freak when it comes to hotels The extra £15 all day long up to now ! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you in the bath 🛁 I think travel lodge have been refurbishing for the last 20 years 🤷‍♂️ Food looks good, don’t quite understand a 45 min wait when there’s nobody in there !! Oh good not good then, never a good sign when plates are still full Good to see you were not blaming the lad grafting his arse off, why they can’t just put more staff on 🤷‍♂️ I always say you can’t beat a premier inn for the money, you just can’t, you’ve just sealed my opinion on travel lodge Great review mate, and very fair Nice one AL 🤜🤛

We stop about once a month at the Premier Inn Cockermouth and always enjoy it but the prices are on the rise, so we thought we would give the Travelodge a try for the first time in about 12 years, as they are cheaper. defo false economy on this visit, as we were both so disappointed and felt real sorry for the young lad trying to do everyone's job. Looks like a basic Travel Lodge in the US. Many here do not even have a continental breakfast.. Great photo in the bath. Under staffing is a good way to destroy a service business...

Yes agree. Have stayed in Travelodge twice and Premier inn 99+ . Travelodge are trying to be premier inn and are failing! I’m a big Premier inn fan. I try to be fair but I think I will continue staying at premier inn instead of Travelodge for the moment!

Us too Ryan, we so wanted to enjoy it there as it is always a bit cheaper and every penny counts nowadays but apart from the very comfortable bed it was nowhere near the same standard as Premier Inn. Watched this last night and loved it,love the bathroom snap 🫢,and my hubby is 6.2 covered with tats and if he would seen that spider he would been out the door,he hates them.loved the review alan i used do travelodge alot as its the cheapest"place to crash"even done america in one".But i never tried premier as always alot more money and im tight.What i have found now and i use the app alot is airbnb dont know if you tried it,but i find it cheapest now if you search hard enough! Maybe the chap who worked there was a twin?or triplets?or a cyborg ,the work the poor lad has to do,sadly population geting alot bigger jobs getting alot smaller due to cutbacks,but i agree with you,that whats the point of having a shiney new car"ie major trav paintjob ect if there no engine!! My hubby was saying you are SO brave in having a travelodge meal,he said he walk 5 miles in the pouring rain to a chip shop rather than have one there breakfasts ever again lol.loved this alan looking forward to march one debs xx 💎 🤗

I got into trouble from my daughter and granddaughter for that photo last night lol! Mrs Metalman is absolutely terrified of spiders, so when she saw that cobweb, then looked up and saw the spider, what a scream she let out, I had just poured out a pint and nearly dropped the bloody lot lol. First time and last time we will ever have the food there it was awful, despite the efforts of the young lad who was trying his best.
