I proudly own a pair of PLX-1000 turntables, after owning 1210s for many years. I have been DJing on them constantly for months now and can honestly say they are the best thing I have bought since buying new decks all those years ago...pitch control is very accurate, the wow and flutter, due to a typo in the spec sheet, is actually 0.01, which is the same as Technics. The torque, platter and tonearm are excellent to use, one tonearm on one turntable, slightly and I mean slightly rattles with bearings, but it is no bother, as the sound is still really excellent, as is the tracking, as they say, better a tad loose than too tight...you can scratch at any point of a record and nothing phases it, and no vibration either, i love them, only thing i would have maybe waited for is the new Denon VL12 prime, which also looks excellent...i can't fault them

Same as you in respect to having Technics for the most part of 20 years, I’ve never been afraid to try new turntables, and having had PLX 1000’s for three years now I can safely say they are far superior to any pair of techs I owned. They hold a mix perfectly and just as importantly they are aesthetically pleasing to look at. No complaints from me.
@meganoid_9001 Жыл бұрын
I've bought a PLX 1000 and I've compared them to my old SL 1200 MK2. While aesthetic and torque of the former are unvaluable, I must say that the precision of PLX 1000 is lower than that of my old MK2. With the term "precision" I mean two things: 1) Wow & Flutter of PLX 1000 lies between 50 and 100 percent more than that of MK2, based on comparable measurements (whose absolute value might be debatable, but the relative on is undoubtedly fair); 2) Pitch granularity is finer on MK2 than on PLX based on the ability to match a precise beat sampled using a digital metronome. Conclusion: I am up to sell my PLX 1000.

I also have a pair of PLX1000's, they are an excellent turntable and I can't say anything bad about them. I think the main problem is Technics(Panasonic) made such a good turntable, it was difficult to surpass the experience of using one. The problem being the new Technics are very expensive and parts for second hand 1210's are also expensive. My only problem was I bought Reloop Concorde needles which were rubbish, these have been replaced with Shure M44G Carts which are excellent.
@paulboyce8537 Жыл бұрын
My view is that year 2010 when Pioneer gained the blueprints for the Technics there was a jump in quality. The 2014 PLX 1000 doesn't follow these Technics blueprints other than outside appearance. Pioneer completely redesigned the turntable. It has nothing extra. All that matters is functionality and high quality sound in a pretty appearance. Power, silence, sound quality. No gimmicks. Only PHONO out for the best quality sound. There are teardowns videos that can be compared and the PLX 1000 is a very simple and rugged construction making it an easy and cost effective to service. Compared to Technics that is claimed to be a technicians nightmare and very cheaply made ( go figure total U turn what you usually hear). For some reason all of these being Hanpin TT's the Technics sell by the name and what I can see the Pioneer is better quality yet so much cheaper. Technics seems to follow the old concept even that they are different from model to model but there are lot of Frankenstein TT's put together using whatever was available and yet you could mix and match different models. That makes buying second hand a bit risky. To me it also tells that whatever changes were done to the TT's it wasn't a day and night change that makes me question the pricing. The point I'm trying to make the Technics from 40-50 years ago were a Rolls Royce. The same table today is Audio Technica. Today there are so many new and improved TT's on the market that cost lot less.

How would you describe the surface noise of this turntable when playing back? Thinking of buying one with a nice cart as an audiophile turntable, rather than for DJ use. Is it nice and quiet?
@paulboyce8537 Жыл бұрын
2014 the TT was sold as 13.1 kg. 2022 the manual gives 14.6 kg but I just bought the PLX 1000 year 2023 at 15.5 kg (dust cover and rubber mat on). No tonearm loose bearings and platter wobble is hardly noticeable fraction of 1 mm. So in reality perfect. The weight does puzzle me. Seems that there has been improvements as lot of reviews always point to the rubber matting of the Technics even that the power and electrics are not shielded by this matting. Pioneer does have a heavy matting inside under the tonearm that has a function considering the placement of the power/electronics but maybe the Pioneer has improved this to add more weight (or the weight was measured different with or without the platter, dust cover, rubber mat). I don't know and won't pull it apart to see either. But the TT is in very high quality. I would get the PLX 1000 before the Technics SL-1200GR for example. I think you get a better TT plus you save a crazy amount of coin.

Placebo effect towards Technics. Nothing new. I get it it is what you are use to. But in all seriousness the PLX 1000 has been improved in every way compared and yet lot cheaper. Technics sells with name only and you are a living proof of that. Once you had the Pioneer a bit go back to the Technics. I like that they are heavier for even better stability but i think when it finally comes down to it i will end up on eBay buying old MK2's but this has deffinately made me consider going and testing the pioneers before buying, but i had this battle 20+ years ago with the amazing turntables vestax used to sell but i still always chose technics back then!

The Mk7 has the better motor and a somewhat more robust tonearm. Super OEM tonearms tend to bend quite easily during DJing. But that's about it. If I had the cash to spend, I'd get the Technics. The difference, if not in the performance, is that many technics have been battered at raves for the last 30 years and still work. Until pioneer can prove the same durability, the clear choice if you want a long lasting deck is the Technics. The thing I dont like about the Stantons and the Pioneer is that 4.5 Torque in my opinion that is too much Torque and in my opinion they are not as smooth for mixing like the Technics SL 1200' series and the Gemini PT 2100 to 2410 series. I also will say that the Gemini PT 2410 is the best looking Turntable in my opinion as well. Many have not tried the Gemini PT 2410 but if they did they would know it actually is the best DJ Turntable. Slightly edging the Technics SL 1200 by looks but both perform with 5 stars. But hey any very good DJ can rock a party with any Turntable that is Direct Drive and has a good pitch control. I just feel 4.5 Torque is too much.

Hi ya.......do not understand why you could not read the remainder of my comments........will try again, I cannot understand why the new Technics turntable has been placed at such a very high price point. Its not built to anywhere near the standard of a Professional Broadcast Turntable......but the price is very close to that. Technics need to be realistic with their price...how many Club DJ's will be able to afford it? Also, it ain't a product of Audiophile quality ( especially the Pickup Arm ) , so it is no good aiming it at this market........because there a better machines around.

The Bright Pixel does a great review on these, including disassembling and looking at the internals. These are nothing special.

That dude is full of shit and lied about the reverb feedback Mojaxx did the same test and that didn't happen so please, not to mention I looked into it, Tech repairs is all soldering, where as the Pioneer is unplug and swap out the part, please do research on an item before throwing it under a buss, these were used in the Red Bull #3 style 2016 and preformed outstandingly!

The Technics took a lot of R&D to come to its eventual state in its day, the Pioneer is unfortunately a very poor modern copy, come on Pioneer, you must be kidding yourself to think you can just come up with a cheap plastic unit to match up to a legendary turntable, after all you were one of the top manufacturers, making your own top quality turntables, CD players, cassette decks, tuners, amplifiers in your heyday, so you must know how much R&D you had to invest, just because today's kids don't listen to the qualities of yesteryears, doesn't mean you can drop your standards and get away with it, after all we "oldies of the yesteryears" are still around, it wasn't that long ago, and we don't forget good quality reproduction just because the world is awash with MP3s and iphones

i feel you, im 17 in high school, i do use traktor for djing, but nothing beat playing some vinyl on good technics speakers and a Rock solid technics amp, its a shame how nobody cares about quality these days.

It's not plastic it's aluminium die cast and the same as a tech and of course it's cheaper in a sense it's a mass produced Hanpin design, I love the Tech lovers who refuse to give credit to other products on the market the TT will do just fine and you kinda have to make a TT and have out for 20 years to see if it will last 20 years, the Staton ST150 is 10 years strong and is an awesome heavy duty TT, I think in all fairness for the design and price and the 4 times more torque it is worth it, it comes with replacement warranty where as a Tech is not, they are no longer in production, yes you can get parts and yes you can send it out to have some one replace parts with knock offs but fuck that I want assurance that my money was well spent on an item that is covered for 10 years to come!

+Vaping Fanatic it won't do fine, because it's digital pitchfader is a fatal flaw. Look into it yourself, other reviewers are more upfront about this glaring issue. Close but no cigar unfortunately. On a sidenote, I get what you're saying about dj elitism and brand loyalty, however, technics are actually that good *despite* any bias or brand loyalty. They have undeniably earned that reputation and trust.

I must say, having used The Stanton, The Audio Technica, The Pioneer and The old Technics......I actually prefer the build and performance of The Reloop RP7000 and RP8000 machines. In my opinion, the best value for money of the lot. As for The brand new Technics......have not actually used it. But the price is a joke. If it was built like a professional broadcast turntable....fair enough.....but it ain't, so in my opinion, its going to be way overpriced.

I really dislike haters! They bring nothing to the discussion except their warped ideas of facts (or lack of them). Marantz, Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, Monitor Audio, Paradigm, etc. etc. etc. Have plants in China because they can hire a workforce that has a technical background. The Pioneer has really found a home with Audiophiles for being able to whip VPI and some others for a third of the price. Some prat buys a cheap turntable made in China and makes a giant leap that all turntables made there are bad. Wake up fool, the Chinese are moving past some of the so called technically advanced nations. I don't bash the Technics, and I hope every street urchin will buy their new three pound anniversary model. I made a cock up buying a Rega RP1, and I'm waiting for replacement tonearm wires to do it properly. Yeah those Chinese really make bad stuff, yeah really!!
@jeffkreimes52798 жыл бұрын
+D. Paul Riderman Most companies primary reason to manufacture in China is a workforce at a significantly reduced cost.

So that's the point? Why did we have things made in Japan 1960's - Because the labor was cheap, or the work ethic of the people. Anyone who doubts the power of the Chinese will be awakened to a new world. Yes the labor is less now, but the education of the people is very high, just like in Japan.

GOD everyone uses them in clubs etc... iv'e had my 1200's since 1987 and they are still going strong to this day..and i have never had any problems with them. plus they are still in immaculate condition, i would never ever sell them.
@god63848 жыл бұрын
yeah but the reason "everyone uses them" is not a solid reason why its better then the others. I think a lot of the others will go as long "strong" as the 1200s do. I want to hear a real reason? Like what features does it have better etc...
@essex1ned8 жыл бұрын
GOD i have owned a pair of numark TTX1 turntables just to see what they was like compared to the technics, they only lasted me less than 2 years as the pitch control gave up.. good decks for scratching but crap for mixing, i still think that nothing out there can beat technics for reliabillaty and strength, they use them in dmc mixing competitions so that tells you that they are awesome decks...
@DeepDoseMusic6 жыл бұрын
+GOD because they are the most reliable solid state design ever produced for a turntable. They were also designed in a time that was less about pinching pennies so they are overbuilt. the plater is heavily dampened, the body is heavy dense rubber, the top is heavy metal, the bearings are high quality. These pioneers are not built to the same standard, despite blatantly ripping off the overall appearance. They have a digital pitchfader which behaves (more like misbehaves) nothing like the analog technics fader. Its not just elitism and brand loyalty, technics are tried tested and true. They have earned their reputation, whether you like it or not.
