Review: Pro Acryl Basing Texture vs Vallejo Paste

Today, I take a look at Pro Acryl Basin Texture by Monument Hobbies. Vallejo Texture Paste has been my go-to, but it's been harder to find, so I decided to give this new product a try.

A bit late to the game, but for those who are interested, the vallejo texture pastes retain the ridges and valleys from their application more than the pro-acryl. I made a similar observation when using various vallejo texture pastes in comparison to some GW texture pastes.

I jave 3 Vallejo textures. and coulnt be happier. Use the black for my necrons, unpainted and drybrushed, grey pumice painted in earthly browns for the Templars and the desert sand on for the Deathguard and Thousand sons. I have a reverse issue that monument hobbies isnt available in EU as far as I know, but Vallejo is easy to come by. Its a far better alternative then GW imo, and you get a huge tub of it.

Definitely contact them or check their site. I’m almost certain they have distribution in EU. They make remarkable products across the board.

The Vallejo stuff is great, and was absolutely my go-to. I still use a lot of their products. I totally understand EU folks sticking with that. For Americans, though, Pro Acryl is at least as good and easier for us to get.

Looks interesting. I find it extremely difficult to get Vallejo paste & have had to resort to eBay also. Very difficult to find any at a reasonable price & color. Hopefully Monument'll come up with more colors if this sells well, though I, too usually wind up priming over the paste. Especially on my Star Wars Legion minis, where I often use the texture paste to hold the minis to the base. It has the advantage of making the minis sink into te ground rather than hover over the top. Hopefully the Pro Acryl paste can serve the same purpose. I'll have to wait, though, as I have an almost-full jar of Vallejo to go through first.

those vallejo tubs used to be like 10-11 bucks before covid, too bad. It was the best value you could find for hobby brand texture paint.

The supply issues for Vallejo products in general seem to be getting better. A year ago, things like the Metal Color range couldn't be had for love nor money.

great video...appreciate the review...if you prefer the Vallejo, check on Amazon...you can get a tub for about $16 and avoid the $9 shipping...just a suggestion...

Since I've made this video, I have noticed Vallejo products in general becoming easier to find. I've actually been able to order some of their Metal Color paints again after months of having to scour the internet to find the odd color here and there.

was the base primed before you used the texture paints?

They were bare plastic if I remember correctly.

I used both pastes on primed and non-primed. The primer makes no difference from my experience with either and usually I only end up having my bases primed if I'm using 3d printed items that need to get positioned first before the paste, like Rebar that has to be glued down and then the paste gets applied so it looks like it is stuck in the ground.
