Review: Promark Select Balance 5A

I got to beta test the Promark Select Balance sticks in a 5A size. The scoop is that they now make a forward weighted and rear weighted version of a given size. In short, the concept works. I wouldn't switch from my current sticks to these beta versions, but if they made a model that was slightly more similar to what I'm playing now, then maybe...

Been playing the Forward 5B and while I do like them I've considered going down a size to a 5A just for speed, while also getting that forward weighted feel for projection

I'm new to drumming and it's more street drumming I guess (check out Drumadore / Macnas drummers and let me know what to call it 😅). I smashed my first pair that were cheap and our teachers recommended going to the local music shop and just feel them all. I came away with Promark 5A rebounds with actigrip in the hope it helps me not drop them twirling them. I definitely noticed the difference in weight / balance even as a beginner. Makes sense now that I found the rebound faster / easier. Taking notes from the comments for future sticks. Hoping to get a better selection when I go to Dublin 🇮🇪

I've not had the warping problem with Promark sticks but I do find them very slippery. I don't know if they use a different lacquer or less lacquer but I can't quite grip them as well as my Vic Firth's. Personally I play Vic Firth X55A's.

They are now making a coating for their sticks that is supposed to get stickier as it heats up from your grip. That would probably solve your problem. Since my problem is that I don't like the stick much to begin with, the coating probably won't entice me to buy them. Vic Firth is now making a few models with a Zildjian-like dip on them. I don't know how well that works in the real world, though.

I bought the ReBound and actually compare to the 'Normal' drumsticks i feel they heavier and harder to use.. I feel like i have to use soo much power to use them, maybe its good for the bouncing kind of drummers (marching corpse).. But did they feel easier to play fast and precise- for me not at all... BTW i am a Promark drummer i love their products, i just feel they really missed the point here..

+StiGy I really can only say that the rebound are rebound-ier than the forward. Compared to some other sticks they may not be the most bouncy in the wold and they are certainly not the lightest. If you like a light stick, compared to its diameter, try Zildjian. I can't play them because they are too light at any size for my taste.

Depends on if you like them I guess. But I like to play heavy music with a nylon tip... which they didn’t make as of when I recorded this.

@shirase Promark now offers their Rebound and Classic sticks with nylon tips as of 2021.

Nice video. I used to be a Promark fan when they were the best sticks to grip and had great balance. Not so much now. I do use the 5a Rebounds with the promark grip tape but moved on to Vater 7a nylon Manhattans and 5a Vic Firths novas and also the Vic Grip. Way better in my opinion and way cheaper in price. I don't understand the rediculous price increase with Promarks and the other brands stayed the same? Other than the Rebounds I'll never buy Promark again unless theres a sale. Funny because I can get a pair of VF novas for $7 and they feel and last the same as a 5a promark stick going for $15 a pair these days . Totally rediculous

I never buy pro mark sticks. Too often they warp on me. It must be a lot wetter wherever their factory is, because it’s dry here and they warp all the time. These were sent for free, so I made the video.
