I absolutely recommend J. Fitzpatrick shoes. I own three pair of JF shoes. Wedgewood Boot which I got off Massdrop, Tony II whole cuts, and Pike loafers. I love his designs as they are classic but creative. The quality is great and they have replaced my Allen Edmonds (still a fan of AE though).

Justin, I'm getting ready to buy those Tecovas I wrote about to you. Any thoughts on them? The J Fitzpatrick's are a nice shoe! It's excellent that he's also going to be building a lower priced but not lower quality shoe. I figure if you can spend $200 on a pair of trainers, you should be able to spend the same for good leather, especially if you're getting a well made shoe!

One trouble I have with JFitz is that the heel counter definition is not as good as Carmina. If you put them two together, it’s obvious how JFitz’s heel is wider than Carmina’s and the heel counter is more straight (i.e. less contour) than Carmina. I think that the shoe designs Justin is making really deserve a more elegant shape and heel.

Now that's just crazy, I actually did my first dye job on a pair of Allen Edmonds I bought for around $40.00 on ebay a few weeks ago and I got them to a real nice oxblood red color like that though I think it turned out a shade or two darker. Granted they are not in the best shape in the world (let's just say I think the previous owner went from using bad shoe-trees to no shoe-trees) but they do look a lot better after I gave them some TLC and I've gotten quite a few compliments even with the limited exposure. Thank you so much for your amazing videos, they really helped me figure out what I was doing and it is a certainty that the project would not have turned out as well as it did without them.

Alright these shoes are cool and all but I may sound dumb but how would you lace them?
@classicambo9781
@classicambo9781 4 жыл бұрын
Not dumb - wondered the same thing. It is called straight lacing and basically once you put the lace across the bottom as you normally would and even out the laces, you take the lace up the inside of the shoe and out a skipped eyelet. Hard to write but certainly the Men's Gazette has a decent piece with pictures to illustrate how you skip up two holes before taking the lace straight across. I admit I've never used the method - my work boots use an Israeli commando lace which I endeavour never to untie as I wouldn't have a clue how to pull it all back through correctly 😂 side zips for the win.

@TheElegantOxford
@TheElegantOxford 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Lenny. The shoes fit great. The video was filmed across a few days and I had the chance to put the shoes on my feet before the video was done. I made sure to mention the shoes don’t dig into my heels since the leather is soft and maleable. Justin apprenticed under the late Stefano Bemer, who is Italian and then worked with Tony Gaziano of England. I mentioned Carmina because they are the best company to compare J Fitzpatrick to in terms of quality.

Hi, Preston. How do you size the J. Fitzpatrick LPB last compared to the AE 65 last? I have a pair of the J.Fitzptrick Broadmoor. Normally a MTO shoe but I bought them at a sample sale. My version of the Broadmoor is size 10.5 EE (US) on the TMG last. I figure if you can wear the LPB last then maybe I can.

A shoe snob? Fck, I couldn't imagine a more tedious friend or conversation than someone picking apart details on my fcking shoes. Lol, I've sold into Fortune 500 and 100 companies. Nobody gives a flying fck about how nice your shoes are, and nothing about the shoes I wear has ever been a barrier to success at work or with women. Now if I was under 6 feet I guess every little bit counts, but holy crap that life would just be painful...

There is nothing remotely ironic about those shoes being described as “austerity brogues” That is exactly how they should be described.
@TheElegantOxford
@TheElegantOxford 4 жыл бұрын
It’s ironic because the word brogue is used when the shoe clearly has no brogues. Calling them a “plain” brogue is oxymoronic. I’d hardly call that an exact description.

Here’s the exact definition: “the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect” Using the word “brogue” to describe a shoe without brogues fits that exact definition. Adding the word austere or plain actually serves to emphasize it.
