This review is about the Tentipi Safir 7 CP, a Swedish family teepee and sort of a lightweight tent. And since I'm crazy about the concept of teepees, a review of the tipi that fits a stove is definitely in place! And I test the G-Stove on the go. Enjoy!

This video helped me greatly in my decision to purchase a Safir 7 and a G Stove. We are a couple who would like to use cots on formal sites, and sleeping mats on wild camps, and be able to properly cook. I was concerned that the Safir 7 might not be big enough for us to live and move around comfortably-I was really worried that it might be too cramped, and so I was mainly considering a Safir 9. Eventually, after much asking around, I decided to order a 7. Let me tell you-if, like me, you are coming from a standard 2 person tent to a Safir 7, you will be amazed at the sheer scale of the thing! It is a MASSIVE upgrade. More like a small bothy, but still very cosy. Total luxury! Plenty of room for up to four adults to move around without pressing against the tent walls, and can easily sit up in a chair. Tons of room for 2 people, especially if we were to use lower cots or sleeping mats. The headroom height is superb-the videos, as good as this one is, never communicate the size and roominess of these tents. When you see one in person, you’ll be amazed. Haven’t slept in it yet, but considering the size of the 7, I am SO GLAD I never went for the 9. It would be way too large and empty feeling. The manufacturer advises you to set up the tent and soak it before using. Aye, good luck! We literally threw buckets of water at it for nearly an hour-not a drop soaked in! It all beaded and ran right off like a duck’s back! Will update after the weekend, but right now, I am completely in love. Update soon UPDATE: We took our Safir 7 out for a trial night last weekend, with cots and a G Stove. A few thoughts: 1) Practice setting up the pegs. We have still to get the hang of this, but on our third or so try, managed to get it (mostly) right. Even very minor slopes and contours will alter where to peg out the tent. Our door panel was a little too loose, and we are also struggling to get the pole straight in the middle. It always seems to be just a little off. 2) The floor is tricky to get perfect too. We had certain sides that were too high, or too low. We have the pro-floor, and it took us a good while to set it up properly. Still unsure how to properly attach it to the door area. 3) We were hit by extremely high winds- the loose door panel came unhitched from its peg, and the wind blew in underneath the pro-floor, letting in big draughts and generally causing a bit of chaos. Subsequently I think we lost quite a lot of heat throughout the night. Although I already knew this, the pro-floor needs to be: Secured and attached all the way round; Pulled tight via the outer lower straps; Folded over the green outer flaps and; Weighed down, preferably all the way round the tent, to prevent flapping, blasts of wind and heat loss. 4) Despite the gale winds, the tipi was largely secure. It also rained for most of the night, and we were absolutely delighted to never experience a drier tent. However: because the stove pipe doesn’t secure tightly around a tent protector, you will get small drops of rain that come vertically into the tent. These usually landed on the stove, evaporating immediately. They were also tiny and inconsequential. 5) We kept the G Stove running all night, which burned approximately one bag of wood (oak). The normal size G Stove is just right for the Safir 7-I think that it would be too cool for a size 9 in Winter. We were sleeping on cots, and it was definitely noticeably cooler the lower you sit in the tent, and the further you are from the stove. However, it is generally very cosy, and far more comfortable than a normal, unheated tent. You will still need a good sleeping mat, and a good three season sleeping bag for winter, though. But there is one thing that I cannot exaggerate enough: This tent feels like your own little holiday home. It’s so cosy at night, and genuinely beautiful once it’s set up, glowing with a lamp inside. I absolutely love it. I’ll come back with some more thoughts in future, and I am considering making my own in-depth video. Hope this has been helpful to someone!

Thanks for this! I too am undecided between the two sizes. May I ask if a double wide mattress fits comfortably away from the centre pole/fire? I sleep with my wife on a 132cm wide air mattress and wondered if it would be claustrophobic on the side next to the tent wall if I tried to keep some space away from the centre firebox, which may throw off sparks. Regards and happy camping!

Mooie uitgebreide review!

Thank you for this review - it's one of - (perhaps the?) - best I've seen on the Tentipi Safari 7. After months of dithering over whether to get a Tentipi or a bell tent, I have just bought the Safari 7, together with the pro floor and clothes hanger. Now I am trying to decide which stove to get. I think I've decided on the Winnerwell Woodlander View Medium, for the combination of its flexibility (heating, cooking, portability), build quality, weight, the wide range of cooking accessories, and the ambience created by the two glass sides. I see you have reviewed this stove favourably for the Safari 5 tent (also helpful, thank you). My question is, do you have any idea how many additional pipe sections I will need to buy to safely clear the top of the Safari 7? (I have noted the need for a double or triple-walled protector). I have not been able to find this information from any site or review I've looked at so far and was wondering whether you just knew?! (I estimate it's likely to be 3 or maybe 4). Wishing you all the best!

Hi Lou, Sorry for the late reply but it has been busy and the Christdays 😉. The Safir is 270 cm heigh if I remember correctly. Great review as usual. I’ve camped with a Robens Klondike, even put it on a trailer on an ebike . Really like the shape for camping, but at over 16kg not really bike camping tent without a ebike and trailer, I don’t really want to use a trailer or ebike all the time. Some of the tentipi range like onyx lite are just about usable weight wise on a bike although still on the heavy side. The thing is you could still hide a couple of bikes in them for days hiking or sightseeing etc. So as you are a man of infinite knowledge would you consider using one on a bike or often in my case an ice sprint trike. Also the lite version loses the cotton advantage how does that compare? Thanks Kev

Hi Kevin, Wow... "a man of infinite knowledge"... really I don't know everything 🙃. But I would not use a 7CP on a bike or ice sprint trike. Maybe with a trailer but... no. Yes, not cotton loses a lot of advantages except space.... so hiding would still be possible. And I have a old not cotton Helsport tipi and we use that one quite often when weight is an issue... So rethink and come back to me with more questions. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Great review - very well done, and thank you. As a potential Tentipi owner, doing his research, snakes, poisonous spiders and bull ants getting in to a tent are a potential issue. As I understand it, the optional full inner fixes this issue, but of course with extra expense and removing a little of the room inside the tent. Have you either used or tried one with an inner, and approximately how much room do you loose? Appreciate your thoughts; I am not able to see one before taking the plunge, so your review and comments are greatly appreciated! Many thanks :-)

@@happymaskedguy1943 I would agree - an inner would be the only way to foolproof the tent against ingress of anti social wilderness critters of the poisonous and biting type. I find the floor arrangement a bit fiddly from a design POV, and it also adds to the expense - I would've thought a zip in floor would be easier, but no doubt Tentipi had their reasons for building it as they have.

Hi Egil, I would go for the 7. The 9 has more space but also more weight. I find the 7 the perfect one between 5 and 9. I know some friends who had a 9 with the kids. When the kids stopt going on holiday with them, they changed after a while to the 7. It also takes less time to heat in winter and also less fuel. But.... it also depends a bit on how tall you are 😉. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Dear Thanaphan, I am not sure what you mean. In warm countries the cotton fabric is nice because it 'breathes' and on the top you have a chimney so warm air escapes. The fabric is waterproof so good for rain. The chimney has a special sleeve for the stove pipe so with a stove it is also nice in the cold. Does this help? Gijs

Hello! I have a question about cowhide. Doesn't the heat from the stove damage the hide? The grass under my Winnerwell stove always gets very dry. I also bought a cowhide for my Tentipi Safir 7. Now I'm wondering if I need an additional heat protection mat. What is your long-term experience? Best wishes from Germany! 😊👍🏻

The Moosecamp floor is cheaper than the TenTipi, but does not having those zips cause problems? If we want to roll it away from the door area in case of rain or wet boots?

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Thanks. I've ordered the Moosecamp. Hopefully not too long in the post. (Hoping to book a test long weekend at the end of the month). I've also ordered the G-Stove heat proof mat. Not ordered a stove yet, but the hope if/when I do is the mat will protect the groundsheet underneath it. Is any more insulation needed on top of that? (I remember being impressed by the small plumbers mats when soldering pipe a long time ago before they days of push fit, so wonder if this is a similar product.) I've ordered the Safir 9 for the family of 5. A lot of money! Hopefully it will serve for years as a great family tent.

Bigger is better: a 9 for sure or maybe even 15. I have friends with the same family configuration and they have a 9 and are happy with it. But it is also depending on age of the kids so a 15 might be the more safer option if you need space inside with bad weather. From your name I don't have a clue where you are from and where you go camping. This makes a difference too. Let me know if I can help. I am easy to reach by phone if you prefer that. Cheers, Gijs

Gijs wouldn't you prefer the Safir 9 CP for a family of 4+ after all? (and a medium stove with extra windows on the side giving nicer ('infra red') heat as well). 7CP probably for 2. There is a cheaper Tentipi with one ventilation opening variant. Not Ten Cate technical cotton. But still technical cotton (think around 30% cotton). The Bell tent (also technical cotton) is a lot cheaper and more space but not as good looking as Tentipi. Hard choices.

Hi Afitlife, No, I would not. We are a small - in cm - familiy of four and like the easy setup op the 7. Friends have a 9 and yes, it is more spacious and when you stay on one spot longer is is fine but they always struggle with pitching. Now they sold the tent and bought a .... 7. Stove with windows: YES! Bell tent.... NO. 😄. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe!

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I checked both tents yesterday and I think I prefer 9 over 7. Its a lot more space for a small amount more. There is even a family (of 4) carrying the 9 while cycling. I don’t think there is much of a pitching problem. Maybe when you camping in your garden. The bell tent is a different kind and reminds my more tribes in Asia. But Ten-tipi giving the Indian vibes. Both have its charm. You can find both with Ten Cate materials. Its all a personal choice.

Personal choice, sure! But a 22.5 kg tent on a bike is not my cup of tea. Pitching, not the space the height. Getting a chimney in at 3.6 meter is for me with 1.7 meter not that simple ;-)
