Before watching this and listening to any of this release, swore that another new box set just wasn't going to be in the budget for the rest of the year. Your enthusiastic review and the comments by Wolf and others who posted before this made me listen to some of the Live In London 1974 CDs. The result? Delivery should come tomorrow. A tad expensive but managed to find one on sale. Thanks, Pete - and other commenters - for the review and comments. This one deserves a listen if you can get it for a reasonable price. Proving yet again why this Wednesday weekly new product episodes should be watched by many, many more of the SoT community.

Thanks for the unboxing, and know looking forward to buying this set. Just not sure when though, but hopefully not too long, thanks a lot Pete.

Great Review. There were three songs that were on the unreleased second album that did not appear in the 1974 show. Livin' Life Backwards, All In Your Mind and Time Is A Lady. It's really too bad they couldn't have just finished and officially released the second album.

Love this live material Pete, i think if they wanted to have been more "commercial" they may have benefited from a vocalist, but, i've always respected Beck for being more committed to the actual art over commercialism, not that he's done excellent work either way. i've just always taken these for what they are, and that's 3 bad-asses jammin'... it's all good! \m/ \m/

Nice! Live in Japan has been one of my favourite live albums for the last 35 years and ive had a bootleg on vinyl of the Rainbow set for a few years but still can't wait to get this with hopefully better sound on the Rainbow show than what I have. great release hopefully more people will hear it as alot were kinda turned off by the studio album which is not even close to there live energy

Great review Pete. I had purchased the Live in Japan CD when it first came out years ago I remember the jewel case was the old real thick one. Should have kept it. This gives me a chance to get it again with the other concert also. Thanks! Bob K

The live in Japan from 1973 the original release is from Tokyo I believe and the one in the boxed set is from Osaka same tour but I think two different shows from that tour

Carmine Appice is insanely good on these. If they had found a winning formula to continue, they would have been unstoppable.

So I saw Jeff Beck Rough and Ready Tour, with Cozy and Bobby and Max. The following year 72 I saw Jeff Beck Group Tour with Bobby and Max Middleton and Bogart & Appice at the Berkeley community theater. That was probably the best of the shows then in 73 I saw them at Winterland with Beck Bogart, & Appice. they were cool, but lacking in vocals. I am just wondering if the booklet mentions that Bogart and & Appice played on the Jeff Beck Group72 tour?

Wonderful archival release, had it for about a week now (just the music since I download my music via MP3/no hard media). Sound quality's pretty good too. Important since there isn't really much BBA material available anyway from this 'supergroup' (they only existed for 2 years) with one studio album. Hard to 'forget' Beck's Gibson LP years given the Blow By Blow album cover but yeah, mostly a Strat guy - and Teles in The Yardbirds along with a Fender Esquire & yes, an LP. The LP use here is supposedly a 1954 “Oxblood” Les Paul...To me this is a 'must own' for Beck fans & easily a 5 out of 5 for me!
@JoelPrice253 Жыл бұрын
Pete, the JBG broke up but Beck fulfilled the US dates with Bogert, Appice, Middleton and a singer i can't remember, quickly replaced by Tench for a month or so.
@damienfoyer Жыл бұрын
Billed as the Jeff Beck Group with this 5 piece line up, correct?

@@damienfoyer Yes, and continued with the trio at least for one gig. I'm not sure when they changed to BBA. Maybe when they recorded the album?

Interesting that this was released by ATCO(Jeff's label he was on when he died), as opposed to Epic(which released the original Beck, Bogart, and Appice). ATCO should reissue the studio album.

If the record companies don't want me to pirate music from the Internet (which I do very rarely given I have a 3,000+ CD collection) then they need to get this crazy idea out of their heads that the equivalent of $75+ is a fair price to pay for a 4 CD box set - especially where this is really old material that has been archived for years anyway. The 50th anniversary of Hawkwind's "Space Ritual" is coming out on Friday and that's a 10 CD + 1 Bluray disc collection for about $120 - and that's the Amazon pre-order price which will probably drop a little on the day.
@thatdannykelly4503 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. There's roughly 50 minutes of new music here and they want upwards of 50 bucks on Amazon, 75 bucks in stores. Good grief. I'm buying for the music, not packaging. If this set was under 40 bucks, I wouldn't complain. And there's no reason for the Rainbow shows to be spread over two discs.
@peterberg8417 Жыл бұрын
Bring back the clamshell jewel case like Jethro tull's 50 for 50. Holds all the music and a nice booklet with liner notes and pictures. That's all you need to keep the price down!
@terrydaktyllus1320 Жыл бұрын
@@thatdannykelly4503 Yes, in agreement with everything you have said there.
@jimmycampbell78 Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree, I think I responded elsewhere (maybe on Phil Aston’s channel?) that this particular set is a total rip off and cash grab. Yes, theres a nice book. But 4 CDs at this price is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn’t pay this for 4 separate CDs and a book. Its not a commentary on Beck Bogert Appice or the quality of music but the greed of record companies is mind boggling. I realise a lot of collectors out there who cannot resist this stuff but how many buy sets like this, play them once, read the book, flick through the photos, then let it gather dust on their shelf. People should be sensible and try to resist shelling out for overpriced sets like this. It is an obvious cash grab after Jeff Beck’s passing, sadly.
@seaoftranquilityprog Жыл бұрын
@@jimmycampbell78 Well, at under $50 US for this box, I think you get more for your money than other sets that have come out in recent years that have less content.
