@@Wildkard@Wildkard, My main concern was our set piece. I don't expect us to beat South Africa, but we knew we'd be facing both South Africa and New Zealand, who would focus on targeting our scrum and lineouts. It feels like we haven't made significant improvements. While our lineout stats may look good, the quality of the ball wasn't up to par. Our ruck defence was awful.

Well, as a Saffa surrounded by mostly Saffa supporters they seemed to be. But I do think a contingent of Aussie support was indeed missing on the day. SA fan support seemed just as strong as that for Australia. The harshest of realities is setting in for the Australians. Make no mistake. They have a very long way to go if they're ever going to break into even the Top 5 in the world, because that kind of loss at home to the Springboks was a lot like Wales losing by that kind of margin. They're practically on a similar caliber, way off the standards set by those that are above them. Schmidt is a solid coach, but he's no miracle worker either. Much more emphasis needs to be put into the team selection and the resources that are available to them if they are ever going to make it back to the top. And they have 3x years to do it before '27.
@2111bigad5 ай бұрын

@michaelkeegan92605 ай бұрын
Schmidt is one dimensional. He will make Australia play like 2019 era ireland. For example their complete inability to play wide today and their focus on one man running off the back of a pod all game. His tactics were dissected years ago and he hasn't evolved since. Much like Eddie... was once a great coach, hasn't lost anything just hasn't gained anything either. To top it off, like nz, aus isnt producing world breaker players in their domestic leagues anymore. The NZ south sea island to super rugby pipeline has ended, the best Tongans, Fijians and Samoans are playing in Europe now so New Zealand selection base has catered.

Any South African can relate as just less than a decade ago Springboks were also in dire state. We were at 8th place in World Ranking at oe stage (if I'm not mistaken). The fierce competition between Springboks, New Zealand and Australia was always what I looked forward to. The days when the SH teams dominated and we're always in the top 5 of world rankings and most of the time always occupied No. 1 - 3 place, just exchanging now and then as the rivalry was that close. Agree on that camera, it was zoomed out so far as the 33/7 score.

The camera angel thing is a new tactic by world rugby to protect Thier incompetent refs. U should have noticed they don't do as many replays anymore. The broadcasters are not allowed to show how in they get it wrong or the ref byest.

i did notice fewer replays too its just awful fan experience

I love the first timestamp name. It's not nonsense I agree. That camera was awful. Also I wouldn't be too disheartened about the Aus performance, it's a well oiled SA team against an Aus team trying to build what jones fucked up. Remember the boks' first few games when Rassie took over.

yeah but did u notice the aussies looked smaller and in way worse shape than the boks? the athletic talent isnt there anymore

It's subtle, but if you read between the lines you can tell this is actually quite critical of Rugby Australia

See, I told you you should come to the game :P Now that I've had a chance to rewatch it online, there's a lot I missed on the day. But this is my favourite moment: At 60:00 (just after the play where KLA had a corner no-try), there's this exchange between Pierce and PSDT: PSDT: There's three penalties in a row... Pierce: I was just about to say the same thing. Pierce talks to James Slipper Pierce to PSDT: Would you like the line-out, the not-rolling, or the offside? PSDT: Uh, we'd like the, uh, where's the scrum? 😂
@Wildkard5 ай бұрын
ive seen people posting about that. really made no sense, PSDT can choose where the scurm is, and there was a lineout so no scrum during the play?
