Since Ebbers isn’t here, I’m filling in the nerdy bits about the tray. Tipsi tray is like a hanging pendulum, instead of the drink sloshing back and forth, the drink is actually pushed down. Our shoulder while walking creates the swing of the pendulum, and as we know pendulums always stabilise to the centre when moved. Key is to have a loose grip so when we stop walking (shoulder stops) the tray can continue to swing by the grip of your palm. Also, just have grandma knit a hanging basket frame for your regular trays. It’s the same principle, you get DIY design options and save 35 quids. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@monil7529
@monil7529 2 жыл бұрын
Also, since it is a pendulum (circular motion), there is a difference in swinging speed of our drink and speed of tray. However the difference isn’t much for shapes like cups and mugs since drink is closer to the tray. For tall stem wine glasses, the drink is further away from the tray and tray swings faster than the drink. Thus as demonstrated by Barry, the tray slips away from the drink as seen at 15:36 and the drink goes flying off.

I don't know if you have made something like: "What do I need to get started cooking?" It sounds simple, but even if it boils down to a pan and two pots and 3 knifes, there is still a huge selection out there. And a lot of people are clueless and think non-stick pans are the only ones they can use. I've been cooking with pretty much the same high quality pans and knifes for all my life. The only thing I have to replace is my sharpening steel. It would also be interesting to see what a learned cook will select and what the normals thinks are useful tools. Something like that onion-chopper is a typical find in my mothers toolset. Even though she's a good cook, she bought a lot of this stuff to make it harder and have more stuff to clean afterwards ;)

@pattheplanter
@pattheplanter 2 жыл бұрын
A liquidiser/blender would do just as well. Leave it to soak for 20 minutes and blend again and you get much more mashed. Liquidiser and sieve for £40 at most. Easier to clean and multipurpose.
@TomDufall
@TomDufall 2 жыл бұрын
I hadn't thought of oats but you're right, it makes sense for them and is probably the most eco-friendly option for it. My question over its eco credentials for nuts is whether pre-making milk could beat it as it means only the liquid is transported and they probably use lower-grade nuts than the ones you buy in a supermarket (since no one can see the shape/size of the nut once it's turned into milk.)
@pattheplanter
@pattheplanter 2 жыл бұрын
@@TomDufall Only the liquid is transported? You have more than 30 times the amount of weight to transport if you transport the made up milk rather than the nuts. That is 30 times the amount of fuel and general bother. You also need more robust packaging for liquids than you do for dry nuts. The nuts they use to make commercial milk are probably not lower grade because one bad nut can taint the whole batch and make it taste awful. Making it at home you can pick the occasional wrongun out easily.

@@DimT670 Really, I use a good liquidiser and a fine sieve. It works with less residue than that machine leaves. If it can do ice cubes it can do any nuts except dry tiger nuts. To make _horchata de chufa_ you need to soak the tiger nuts for a day or two.

There's still a line there, though. You gotta look at the product and actually think if the whole "also for disabled people" is simply marketing mumbo jumbo that doesn't fit the product or an actual plus point. Example: Spoon that stabilizes itself, so it's harder to spill with shaking hands - Fantastic gadget for disabled people with parkinson's or gripping issues. Tray with a handle, that only really helps in carrying many beverages and would be tougher for disabled people to reassemble once it falls down, offers no clear hand grip and is much too expensive for what it offers them? Not so much a gadget for the disabled. In case 1 it's a true point, in case 2 it's just a marketing ploy. Doesn't make the tray a bad product, but it shouldn't be instantly noted as "good" just because of that. That's like specifically calling out how bio-degradable the cardboard box is, that you just received 25 individual plastic bags in.

For the almond cow thing I feel like it would be more expensive to buy the nuts than a carton of milk. Not to mention the milk cartons are typically recyclable whereas nuts tend to come in plastic packaging
@giuseppebonatici7169
@giuseppebonatici7169 2 жыл бұрын
Milk cartons are composites made of plastics, cellulose and sometimes metals, and composites are known to be really hard or impossible to recycle. plastics are a lot easier to recycle in comparison, as most of them can be melted, or at least dissolved. Unless burning is your concept of recycling (in which plastics still have an edge over milk cartons), a milk carton is not, in any way close to being as recyclable as plastics. also, milk cartons have a lot more potential to contaminate water with PE microplastics, comparable to film wraps.
@sebeckley
@sebeckley 2 жыл бұрын
Looked like a half cup of nuts and you can get 28oz of almonds for $12. One carton is $3.19 to 5.99 on the brand. The milk maker could pay for itself in three to five months depending on frequency of use.

@@giuseppebonatici7169 Also, you can, in some places, get nuts from bulk bins and use resusable containers.
@Mrb1uu
@Mrb1uu 2 жыл бұрын
Plastic packaging is also recyclable though. It takes just as much effort to throw a carton into the blue bin as it does to throw the plastic in. I feel like the nut vs animal issue is more about the ethics of acquiring the milk. The fact that people often forget about with cow's milk is the means through which it is produced the vast vast vast majority of the time. The cows are constantly forced onto the "rape rack" and artificially inseminated so that they are able to produce milk due to the pregnancy. The calves that are birthed are taken immediately and forced to live the same fate as their mothers.

@@giuseppebonatici7169 have a look for the documentary about recycling plastic on here that was filmed in Germany (I forget the name, but I'm sure it will be easy enough to find with that information), supposedly the world leaders in plastic recycling, to see just how little plastic is actually recycled or reused even when there is no user error at all before the bins are emptied. It's truly astounding just how little gets recycled and instead ends up in the sea or a landfill, and how much pollution it causes as well as how much money it wastes to separate, clean and then break it down only for it to end up in the same place as the rest of the stuff we throw away every day.

The 'SlapChop' has existed in some form or another for at least 35 years. I remember our kitchen having one as part of a set with a hand-cranked slicer grater tool combo thingy that had exchangeable blades too, in the _first_ house I ever remember living in, from which we moved out when I was 5. Literally the same device, with the rotation and the wavy 'chopping blade'. I remember my dad using it to chop onions to 'avoid getting tear-eyed' - which was understandable, since crying is utterly unforgivable for a Finnish man in the 80's. If a tear had escaped, they would have come and taken all his puukkos away and forced him to learn Swedish.

The milk machine! That would be so handy for me, being allergic to all animal milks, and the mess I make (my husband clean). However, the price being $250 CAD is too steep for me after paying that for a dehydrator. I save my used oats and freeze them in ice cube trays; a couple of those with water in a bowl, pop in the microwave and boom, you have oatmeal. Or, an easy add to smoothies. I also freeze the rice I use so that I can make faster congee.

We had something like the slap chopper some 40-50 years ago. The blade was the same shape but it fit through a piece of moulded plastic so that food did not remain stuck between the folds of the blade. It was most useful for chopping onions because there were fewer tears and it was very quick.
