Lauren Unthank If you are only going tot use the wifi of the hotel you don't need this device. Just ask the hotel staff for the settings from the wifi and enter them in your iPod directly

Do you mean an ethernet router? Its less of a router and more of a device you use as an access point for a 3G/2G data connection. More akin to a cellphone that can be used as a WiFi hotspot.

ReviewLamp.com now that i have bought it, i can say that is functions as a full router. i dont have measured the speed but it works. it has has all that stuff integratet like a normal dsl router or something like that. you can also deactivate the communication between the connectet devices. hope that helps.

Hi, I may sounds like a dummy but why would I need this if I can just create a hotspot on my iphone with my data plan and connect to the hotspot from my computer for Internet? +ivan a You can certainly always use your phone. But I've had better luck with standalone devices like these, especially in Asia. Most SIM cards will work with this device. With the iPhone, some SIM cards have compatibility issues and finding a nano sim in some parts of Asia can be a challenge.

I see, thanks for that. I will have a China nano SIM card that fits my iPhone5c. A couple questions if you don't mind, as I leave soon. 1- Will this accept my China nano sim card? I'm guessing that normal China data charges would occur on that phone number and I should get the max on GB that China Unicom offer me. 2- I will be traveling to rural areas in some cases that may not have a signal. It will work about the same as a iphone. It will pick up both 2G and 3G networks in rural areas. It's just a much less complicated device than using your phone as a mobile hotspot.

Well, there is a simple reason for that. Most of the 4G enabled devices have 3G and 2G connectivity built into their 4G antennas and the chip that controls it. The reverse however is not true. Devices that were built for 3G cannot operate on a 4G signal. Hope that helps clarify it. But I can certainly relate to your confusion about the issue.

ReviewLamp.com Well there clearly is no reason why the companies offering 4g couldn't provide 3g connectivity to the 4g system so people wouldn't need to go and buy yet more gizmos just to connect to a system that is a bit faster than the one they are using already. What I'm getting at is this, you have a 3g device as most people probably have ie a phone or a hot spot finder of some kind, that connects to a 3g system that then this 3g system connects to the 4g system a converter of some kind that way people wouldn't need to buy a whole lot of new devices to get on the network and when they decide to upgrade then they would go 4g, a natural progression that ensures people can use the new system. People using the 3g system may not get the same super fast network on offer from 4g but they could still use the system and use their equipment. As it stands if all your equipment is 3g and the only companies around you are offering 4g at a lower price you are screwed, even though they offer 3g should their 4g system not be available, surely it makes more sense to simply provide both connectivity or all connectivity with the providers offering step up or step down using their equipment they have on site.
