As an INTJ dancer, I'm glad that this video describes the INTJ as having a drive to express themselves through literature and art. I'm so used to reading or hearing INTJ people described as being all scientists or like robots for whom art wouldn't be natural.

I've read on another site that, since the Te is the first extroverted function, it's the one that INTJ's most often naturally use to communicate. So people think that the Te is the primary function, because it's what they see. I only let my Ni out among people I trust (unless I'm doing something artistic), because I don't expect them to accept my conjectures without my being able to explain exactly how I got them... and I usually just plain don't know!

Its never made sense. Ive read articles describing the great inner appreciation we have for the arts, then get to the "career" section and see...scientist, doctor lol. When considering our leading functions how would that even make sense to have a "profound appreciation" yet never dive into as a career? Ive yet to pickup anything ive fancied and not apply it to my everyday life/career choice. It be likend to doing something for the sake of doing it with no core connection to what it is were after and thats definetly not an INTJ thing. What would perhaps be better stated is we dont care for commercial arts as a career where perhaps our passion is forced into mass production type of state were theres less focus on the individual artist, what we would like to express and more on what the corporation wants. Just a thought

There are a lot of people who mis-type as INTJ. It's very common for the ISFP to mis-type as INTJ for example, because they share the same functions, but in a different order. For the INTJ, expression in physical forms such as art would be very odd indeed, since Se is the inferior function. I know I take the approach, "Does it work?....Check....Who cares how it looks." How I feel about it (Fi) is very much secondary to "does this actually work?" (Te). I would make sure that you aren't ISFP. A good friend of mine who is ISFP mis-typed herself as INTJ.
@Gothelittle

On the other hand, you could merely be an older/fully-realized INTJ who is accessing all of your functional stack. I'm unquestionably a real INTJ, but I enjoy dancing. For me, it it's very much an Ni-Se expression - finding a way to bring my intuitive reaction to music into real life. Or there's line dancing/social dancing, which is awesome because it's logical and laid out so that you know what to do (Te), you have some wiggle room to express yourself in the movies (Se), and it doesn't require you to do small talk and such (introvert). It's like socializing without the minefield.

I don’t know what to say about that. Though I think I get the point, I am, also, asking whether reality is something more than a collective inter- subjective network of meaning. I am not keen at all on accepting others’ directive definitions, limitations, and parameters, and that is not because they are subjective (so am I), but because they lead to outcomes that are bigger or smaller catastrophes and they are plainly ugly. If something does not work, why insist? I see others so smitten with their ineffectual paradigms going round and round and round in circles, applying the same methods and expecting different results. That’s the very definition of stupidity, is it not? When their respective endeavour fails, they give others and themselves the usual excuses- ‘it’s a question of timing’, ‘we need to refine the method but keep the paradigm’, ‘it’s others’ fault’, and (the pinnacle of all evil stupidity) ‘it’s been supposed to fail because failure is part of the journey’ (no, not even a nice try. You caused this because you are either purposefully evil or just criminally incompetent). All that nonsense exasperates me. If this weren’t affecting me, I would just walk away and let them ruin their lives as they please. But it does affect me emotionally and practically (how many times have I had to pick up the pieces?). There is no respite from this and the underlying layer of damaging nonsense is EVERYWHERE. The whole ‘reality’ is built on pillars of stupidity by myopic ‘leaders’ and ‘mobs’. There is no hope.

As an INTJ when people ask me, " How are you doing?" I usually reply I haven't taken inventory yet. Emotions are one of those things I know I feel, but it takes so long to sift through them that sometimes it's not worth it. They really don't dictate my reality, but they do make for excellent art and writing.

to paraphrase the mind of an INTJ: (Paraphrasing) Physics is the theoretical study of the condition of nature... Philosophy is the theoretical study of the condition of humans... If you want to understand how the world goes around, you have to combine the two, because humans exist in nature and nature exists in humans...then your mind may become perceivingly prophetic... It is pretty simple... I see the world (internal and external) as an endless spiderweb of gears which all lead to a predictable outcome...

I've been pondering something similar after I started learning the functions. I hate the dichotomy of T and F. I don't understand how one can be so sure of reality if they're so willing to forego one interpretation at the expense of another. You don't accurately solve an equation if you leave out factors. Both T and F have their roles in different contexts and in many respects remind me of yin and yang. So I delve into each one as needed and coordinate them. I've been asking myself, "Which function can be a coordinator?" Ni seems to fit.
@Renetic97
@Renetic97 7 жыл бұрын
Peregrination But the four traits of the mbti (like T and F) describe your tendencies. if you are F doesn't mean that you exclude the T trait. The T trait is just more advanced in our cases (I'm an INTJ too). But we also have our emotional moments with strong feelings. In the video it is also said, that we want to express ourselves in literature and other kinds of art. So we should look at the four traits as absolute. They are just tendencies and its good to have multiple perspectices ^^

Michael, as an INTJ, I have found this video to be the most accurate summation of the INTJ mind I have ever read or seen. I would say it even tops your previous INTJ video. Ni: I can relate to this. Si types tend to have great photographic memory. As an Ni-dom, I don't remember events or sensory information so much as I remember how those events made me feel or how they triggered some concept I have previously intuited. Te: I know exactly what you mean when it comes to relations with other people. Sometimes, I treat people nice because I know of what the consequences are if I don't. I know that this person could make my life difficult in the future if I am not at least polite to him, rather than yell at him like I want to. Fi: I feel like I have a well of affection for people that mean a lot to me. My frustration - like most INTJ's - is in expression. I also feel like I do have core conviction, even if I appear to be machiavellian. Se: Yes, many INTJ's - including myself - tend to be all or nothing. I tend to become easily addicted to food, music, or other sensory stimulations with little regard to nuance. That's why I abstain from alcohol because I could become so easily addicted. Thank you so much for doing this video. It has indeed met all my hopes and dreams.

+MasterSanders You stated exactly how I felt about the video perfectly. This comment section is filled with people that feel are so much like myself that it is actually making me genuinely happy. In fact, way back when, before I knew much of anything about MBTI, I thought I was ISFP. I had taken a non professional test some random person on a quiz-making website made, and my result had been ISFP. Later, when I took a real test that phrased the questions differently and delved deeper into internal thoughts and feelings, rather than just how you appear in social situations, my result was INTJ. When I read the simple description of INTJ, I was immensely confused. I had been sure that I was the artistic, kind, sensitive person that they described the ISFP as. But now I was being told by the personality charts and stereotyping memes that I was cold-hearted, narcissistic, and scientific. I was frustrated and kept finding lots of different tests online to see if maybe that one was just wrong. But contrary to what I'd hoped, it had been the _original_ test that I'd taken that'd been wrong. I was definitely an INTJ on all accounts, whether I liked it or not. After exploring deeper into MBTI, and reading and studying about the functions of each type, I began to feel comfortable as the supposed mastermind the tests had told me I was. In fact, only after reading about the incredible insights and independence of the INTJ did I begin to realize that it was so uncommon. I just thought everyone noticed patterns and anticipated things like how I did. I suppose I wasn't social enough with people to realize they weren't like that though. Oops, I ranted again. Sorry about that, and thanks if you actually bothered to read that. Xd

On second thought, there is one thing about it rubs me wrong. I would contend that Karl Marx was not INTJ, but INFJ. CelebrityTypes correctly identified him as an Ni dominant, but must have failed to consider INFJ either due to an oversight or they just insultingly thought INFJs aren't smart enough to come up with Karl Marx's social theories. That is to say, I content that Marx, although perhaps appearing to be INTJ by simple letter dichotomies, actually used INFJ functions. Ni Fe Ti Se, but heavy on the Ti. His philosophy shows a Ti-Fe translating axis. 1. Fe. He advocated social ownership, and sought to convert great numbers of people to his sociopolitical views. He defined people by their relationships with others (Fe) rather than by unshaking individuality. This is the most vile concept imaginable to us INTJs! And directly contracts everything about the Fi-Te axis in this video. By comparison, INTJs (Fi-Te) prefer to direct their advice to the ambitious few and to define people by their individuality and willingness to become great regardless of peer pressures of the group, such as what Nietzsche and Ayn Rand advocated. 2. Ti. Marx generated a great number of astute observations and was able to construct from them an internally consistent logical theory (Ti) that he should not be taken as an action plan (not Te). Architecting modern social science! Marx, like many INFJs spent a great deal of time imagining and eventually trying to implement a willful ideology (Ni) of a social utopia (Fe) that he tried to convince other people to get on board with through convincing speech and charisma (Fe). One that could not be implemented as an action plan in a sustainable way (lack of enough Te). Something quite a few INFJs have done throughout history. Plato - The Republic and its social engineering. Hitler (bearing in mind he was psychologically damaged, of course) - National Socialism. Ghandi - Ghandian economics. Karl Marx - Communism has similar threads in its thoughts.

This is the best INTJ video on youtube. While I like the nickname "mastermind" and even "scientist," I always felt like they weren't really the MOST fitting terms for the INTJ. Even as someone who IS a scientist by profession, I feel more like a wizard or sorcerer than a "scientist." I feel like "alchemist" (as used in this video) is THE BEST term used to describe the INTJ because while we definitely are science-minded, there is also a strong mystical element to us and our minds as well.

Impressive. You mentioned something midway through this video which struck me as both an accurately encapsulaitng part of my own world view along with striking at why I choose not to interact. Others will accuse us of overthinking an issue, yet from our point of view they have satisfied themselves with a habitual practice of applying only the barest amount of resaon to almost every circumstance. However, even as I write this I understand that like most INTJs I see this as a problem with everyone else in the world, not with myself. So yes, we may be a tad narcissistic. Like Magneto said in "X-Men: Days of Future Past": "The thing none of you will ever understand is that there are no sides. There are no heroes or villains. There's just what I want and how I'll get it."

Makes a lot lot sense now that the one friend that I truly consider to be my soulmate above all my other friends, is an INFJ. It is truly rare to find these people that absolutely love discussing and analysing things deep beyond the surface. Even just statistically speaking as INTJ and INFJ make about 3% of the population. When I for the first time met another person that thinks so much like me, it truly feelt like finding my soulmate in this crowd of faceless people. My other friends who three of are ESFP (yes I made them all do the test) are also cool but I never ever even after years was and will be able to connect to them like to my INFJ friend. I always downplayed the true legitimacy of some online test result but the Myers Briggs Test is actually fairly accurate.

Great video, perhaps the best and most thorough INTJ video on KZbin. The idea of a lack of evidence for an INTJs ideas really resonates. An idea is judged based on the accuracy and usefulness of its predictions rather than its backing by facts. I think this is partly why INTJs are so disproportionately drawn towards MBTI. It's a very useful framework for personality typing, but isn't 100% accurate or even backed by science.

Listening to how INTJ's (I am one) process events, it makes so much sense. When I'm surprised, I jump a little, but never scream because my brain is already processing the who, what, noise, danger level, etc.; my other friends will jump or scream and look around to see how the experience is playing out while I process what the impact was on my current state.If that makes sense.

I am INTJ and I must confirm that this is one of the best and most insihgtful descriptions around. As for the difference between Ni and Si, it is actually pretty simple. When seeing an object, Si is interested in the object itself. It asks "what" and "how" and does it in detail. Ni isn't interested in the object itself. It is quite oblivious to its details. It immediately asks "why", "because of what" and "for what purpose".

I can relate to this. I'm often regarded as being "antisocial" because I might end up leaving my peers and go off by myself, all of a sudden, or I might abandon a conversation / online chat all of a sudden, seemlingly for no reason at all. But then thing is, if I'm first in that "deep and phlegmatic" mood, then I'm not easily ripped from it. I want to discuss something "real" and meaningful - trivial pursuit usually drains me. It's rather difficult to explain in a specific manner.

Very interesting thoughts. Especially with the comparison to the ISFP. I had an ISFP friend who took me a long time to type. I felt we had similarities and I enjoyed his creativity and perspective, but it felt like even though he had good ideas he lacked a real engine to take those ideas into fruition, and sometimes became frustrated because this lack of drive was perceived by me (an INTJ) as lack of integrity to his ideas and ideals. Now watching this makes it make sense.

Once I saw your "Revisiting the Types" series, I was hopeful that you'd make an INTJ video shortly after your INFP one, and glad that it came in so soon! I especially enjoyed the Si/Ni dichotomy starting at 4:04 as well as the summation shown of all the types in 23:49. As an INTJ myself, I couldn't agree more with the notion that INTJs don't intend to come across as arrogant. Often times, people mistake my bluntness and stubbornness (without regards to social values) as a superiority complex, when in fact I'm open to learning and understanding others' viewpoint, just in its rawest form. The stubbornness probably comes from the tertiary Fi. When I discover a value that I have within myself that I appreciate, I hold on to it and have a strong desire to operationalize on it, since that discovery doesn't happen often. It's as if a child discovered some new way to play a toy and wants to put it to use in order to discover or learn something cool or more meaningful. I can also attest to the "all or nothing" repressed Se... Many thanks for sharing your perspective with this video. I look forward to your other "Revisiting the Types" series.

All of my life, I have focused most on introverted intuition. For example, even as an eight year old, I was more interested in how the Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back movies were made, what they were really about and what the rumored next movie would be like. They weren't just action movies to me. I contemplated the messages, morals and themes in the movies. I especially loved Yoda in ESB. I knew even then that he was a puppet and was fascinated by how they made him seem so real and compelling in the film. When 20th Century Fox released making-of documentaries, I enjoyed them as much, maybe more than the films. I also loved his dialog and all the wisdom in it. I loved the intuitive nature of the force the way Yoda describes it.

INTJ here. Fantastic video as always. I find your new insight on the similarities between INTJs and ISFPs particularly interesting. My current girlfriend is an ISFP and it seems like we innately know each other's wants and needs. I've began to suspect that not only sharing the same 4 conscious functions (being of the same quadra), but also sharing the same functional feedback loops in reverse order (Ni/Fi vs. Fi/Ni and Te/Se vs. Se/Te) is what makes the "activity" type-interaction the most meaningful in terms of innate understanding. I believe this might be a deeper, unspoken connection than can be experienced with any other type-interaction, including the "mirror", "mirage", or even the "dual" type-interactions. What are your thoughts on this theory? Have you ever experienced a profound connection with an ISTP?

INTJ here. Another epic and revealing video. How annoying that we all think we're so special and unique, and this video gives such an irritatingly accurate picture without even knowing me. The Fi individuation part and feeling like you're following a less sincere expediant path at the expense of who you truly are hit home at this time in my life. The repression of the Se at the expense of the implications of the objective world are also painfully accurate. Very good. I've bought your book too, Michael. It's also excellent. Cheers.

a very accurate analysis, especially concerning our frustration due to the road blocks that people put up for us at an intellectual and social level, which makes it seem like everyone else has a deliberate ignorance to the root cause of issues...in combination to what people perceive as arrogance, this is why "dumbass" is my most widely used word... Thank you Michael for your well thought-out series of videos on the types. I really enjoy the clarity with which you present the information, it has been the most enlightening presentation of the types I have seen. As an INTJ I have been so looking forward to this revisit video, and it does meet all my hopes and dreams! One thing that helped me a lot was how you distinguish between Ni and Si functions (example in the library). I was professionally tested as an INTJ in 1986 (in my early 20s) and have agreed with that assessment for the most part all this time, until I learned a month ago about cognitive functions. The concept of Ni, how it is typically presented, confused me and made we question whether I was actually an INTJ or perhaps an ISTJ instead. Or I wondered if perhaps being a "mature" INTJ, who has had time to develop tertiary and inferior functions, has lost touch with the period of my life when I was developing my dominant Ni function. As you went through the example of Ni vs. Si response in this video, I felt like the question was able to finally be resolved in my mind. My response would definitely more along the lines with the Ni response. After the initial shock, I would begin to wonder and speculate why that person felt the need to startle us so, and probably generalize even further about people who need to call attention to themselves in such a way. I no longer need to doubt that I am an INTJ. Thank you for beginning the video calling to the kind, courteous and genuinely nice nature of the INTJ. I've always felt that way about myself, and have received feedback of that nature.

The images you selected more often than not distracted me from your words (esp the memes - I can't read them and focus on the audio at the same time) and only rarely complemented those words or reinforced them. They often came too fast, as well, which became a visual distraction. Some visual clues during your Si-Ni comparison would be a good idea to remind the viewer which one you are talking about in a given moment. You mispronounced "Ayn" in Ayn Rand. looking at this video introspectivey, when you define the characteristics of Ni and Ni users you also characterize the Meyers Briggs system. Whether or not this was intentional, it's a beautiful insight into the mind of a fellow INTJ (Carl Jung).
@userjames2009
@userjames2009 8 жыл бұрын
+John Smiff Carl Jung is definitely I, N, T, & J, by simple dichotomies but his cognitive functions / judging function axis doesn't seem to be Te (effectiveness) & Fi (personal values). Instead his judging function axis seems to be very Ti (analysis) & some Fe (harmony) which is characteristic of an INFJ who has shifted his conscious mind more towards his Ti function and less towards the Fe function. Carl Jung himself was torn between typing himself as an Ni type or a Ti type. I myself believe he was an Ni-Ti type, a double introvert as known by Douglass Wilde's research, a which would actually be within the false limits of MBTI a very introverted IN"F"J who has diverted towards the NT function pair of conceptualism. When he wrote the black books in a deliberately self-induced psychotic state he showed all the signs of what INFJs know as an NiTi loop.
@johnsmiff8328

MegaBro The point was that I can relate to Carl Jung as an Ni dominant. Whether or not Jung used Te doesn't concern me, although an argument could be made for his use of objective rules. Anyway, my statement was based on Jung being an Ni dominant, which by your analysis, he is, and on the basis that the Meyer's Briggs system is based on the Ni vision of Carl Jung. If this all is accepted, I don't see any reason for anything but the "INTJ" part to not stand.

IAMAneuroscientist I already addressed this point in response to MegaBro. Obviously, there are going to be disagreements about people who we cannot interact with. Especially in a field as subjectively evaluated as Meyers Briggs. I won't dispute that Jung is INFJ, I don't have enough experience with his writings to construct a good contention regarding his type. The point, again, was the it is a system created by an Ni dominant and so when describing Ni you also inadvertently describe the system. This, in it's own way is a beautiful piece of paradoxical looping meta.

Great vid Michael. As an INTJ, this makes a whole lotta sense and is really accurate, and captures the essence of the cerebral nature of us. I've always felt very different to others and people tend to not understand my ideas, at least at first, and I have a strong drive to create visions that I desperately, and impatiently, want to see happen, so I felt I related to those concepts fit me oh so very well! As well, I believe that INTJs would certainly have their enthusiasms tickled if they were seen to resemble SFPs, with a real-world, ethereal edge, almost like they want to be portrayed as a rock star, in a similar way to how ISTJs would have enthusiasm tickled if they were seen as creative, "hippe-ish" and such and such, i.e. shadow NFPs. Thanks for the vid and yes, it does meet my hopes/dreams :p

This is good. No, actually; this is very good. Thank you for sharing. 😊 Living in society is one big group project work. In smaller and bigger group projects I’ve invariably despaired because nothing of value was achieved; I’ve run out of crayons and patience. I cannot speak for others, but I can think only of one word to sum- up my experience i.e. frustration. Constant, all- pervasive frustration. The ‘crowd control’ techniques do not work for me if they involve things that are at odds with my core beliefs. Could I get on better with people and achieve more by, say for example, schmoozing key players or otherwise manipulating them? Possibly. Is it worth it, though? No, definitely not. The purpose doesn’t justify the means (not in my books, anyway). It is a nightmare.

Just took that real test and found out I'm am an INTJ and just listening to this video sums up my life and is very surreal to know this. I have been reading and watching videos for hours and somehow I'm still unfulfilled haha.

jared ritton - From your pic, I assume you're young. You'll grow into it and figure out how to soften the blow living in emo world. I promise. Just pay attn to what people need and give a wee bit.

Michael, this is a much more accurate and positive description than in your other INTJ video. So accurate that I found myself watching it more than once...

This revisit is very much appreciated. You've gotten far more detailed with your elaborations and your presentation style, while still a bit punctuated at parts, is smoother. I would like to point out that classifying INTJs as rational obscures what you mean. I would argue that INTJs are not rational, particularly taking the philosophical perspective of logic/rationality which is invested in the noumenon - a common theme for introverted thinking and INTPs. I would suggest that extroverted thinking manifests itself as empiricism and is wholly inductive and invested in the phenomena, which precludes them from being rationalistic thinkers. I know I'm using extremes to clarify this but I think it's a point well noted and highlights some of the distinctions between Te/Ti and how they manifest in, what Keirsey would call the "Rationals." Awesome job though.

Great video. I think it describes my INTJ sister very well. There's one observation that I have about INTJ's in particular that probably also applied to Te-Fi types in general. That is their tendency to judge and evaluate concepts in terms of useful or useless rather than true or false. While I don't find this a problem, well at least I try not to, what I do find slightly worrisome is their associated tendency to assume that everyone is using the same approach. This leads to a sense of intellectual relativism that, at its worst, tends to assert that there is no underlying truth, and that everything is just a clashing of different agendas. I don't know that could just be my bias as an INTP talking.

Joshua Scrivner - Wish you could talk to my sister. who thinks I'm an evil entity. She lacks the intellectual depth and open-mindedness and I can't even talk to her anymore. I doubt she's ever heard of this personality theory. We're Detroit born AfrAms, which adds another wrinkle - being suspicious of things that are less than concrete, too highbrow and contrived, so not real (like fake news) kind of like the Far Right. We have that element in our community, which is in theory Liberal, but on close inspection - not at all.

You should check out Thomas Sowell for some great INTJ quotes. Here's an example: “When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear.”

thank you for this video. for a while on and off ive been confused with whether im INFJ or INTJ. i finally figured out im a 5w4 INFJ versus a legit INTJ. however i realized a friend of my ESTP friend is an INTJ and i can definitely see how these descriptions are portrayed just by being around her. shes very dry compared to me haha

Thank you for your informative videos. Please revisit the INTP next :P. Im an INTP and i can relate a lot to predicting how things will develop in time . But i think that the difference is that i can see a lot of foreseeable futures, each with a chance to happen (one is clearly with a high chance to happen ). One of my best friends is an INTJ and our discussions are one of my favorite things in life.
