I’ve had really good luck lately with using rubber cement on plugs instead of lube and then giving the plug a quarter or half twist before yanking the handle back out. This wads the plug up tighter in the hole and the rubber cement hardens to further improve the seal.

I use a tiny amount of grease on the part of the brakes that slide (slide pins, caliper to pad contact, pad to shims). You don't go nuts and make sure the grease is specifically for brakes. It helps with rust jacking and keeps noise down. I have also done the brakes dry but it seems the caliper starts hanging over time

This is true, I used to do em with it bolted down, last one I did I was doin the water pipes too so I cracked it up, however, for the little extra work it takes to crack the manifold, it’s really nice to have the extra room and makes the job easier IMO. Yeah not the best design though lol

Great videos I love your stuff! Thank you. I am wondering when you put the Lollipops back onto the car is there a reason I shouldn't use Silicon spray to lube them up? I noticed you use glass cleaner. Oh and I also was wondering if when you used the term "Smack the Sh!t out of that thing" at 32:30 is a technical term?? I think it is as I've heard it used in many situations.
@DayOffDIY
@DayOffDIY Жыл бұрын
hey Greg! Silicone will stay on the control arm and potentially cause the arm to slip inside the bushing after installation. The glass cleaner provides enough lubrication to get the bushing on but evaporates and leaves no lubricating properties after the install. You want a dry bushing so the control arm doesn’t slip inside the bushing. Hope that helps

That stuff is a godsend on any rubber hose or o-ring that you need to slip fit. The only thing I don’t use it on is fuel injectors as I’ve been told silicone and fuel systems aren’t buddies. You can even use the spray to help remove stubborn coolant hoses like a penetrating oil.

Hey dude! Love your videos. I heard that this generation of chassis had a lot of issues with rear subframe bushings/ structural integrity. Would love to hear your thoughts because I’m looking to buy an old one to restore.
@DayOffDIY
@DayOffDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey cole! It’s true that the rear differential mounting locations age and fail, it shows itself by clunking in the rear end when shifting around gears, especially drive to reverse, but it’s repairable. The subframe mounts where the rear subframe bolts to the body can cause the body to crack sometimes, more common on the E46 M3. If I was buying a standard e46 I’d inspect the rear diff bushings but even if it’s shot out, it’s repairable. Eventually I’ll be doing a video on the repair, one of my cars needs it bad

You should not let the caliper hang by the hose like that it put strain on the brake lines

nice but..... hey where is torque wrench? bolt that holds disc rotor imbus bolt sholud be torqued at 16nm. you tighted it brobably more than 50nm. next guy who will take this off wil have fun time... also you fixed damaged wheel bolt. and again tighted them with airgun... 5 min more work will not cost you but you'l get more respect and less incoming problems. and yesterday i was fixing brake sliders on my sister car... 30sec job for you. btw do you watch BMW m539 yt channel? :)

Yeah I don’t always torque everything, but I’ve also ran those same bolts in hundreds of times with impacts and haven’t had any issues related to it. I get what you’re saying though, and I do torque some things… I’ve seen his channel a bit but haven’t watched all of m539s content. He’s a great content creator!

Hello. in my e46 in the n46 engine, the p2177 error pops up every 100 kilometers and I can't deal with it. I already had 3 lambda probes and nothing. please help.
@DayOffDIY
@DayOffDIY Жыл бұрын
I wish I could! To be honest I don’t know if I’ve ever worked on an N46, don’t see em here in the US. Looks like a code related to fuel mixtures. Have you smoke tested the intake or checked for leaks?
@lelekkozje3049
@lelekkozje3049 Жыл бұрын
@@DayOffDIY Yes, I checked, but not smoke, because I do not have access to the smoker. Can it be from worn valve seals because, unfortunately, the car eats oil.
@DayOffDIY
@DayOffDIY Жыл бұрын
@@lelekkozje3049 it could be a lot of things, most auto shops will have a smoke machine to test or you can buy one online for around $100. I wish I could do more for ya!

@@DayOffDIYThe error pops up on a hot engine and at idle when I'm stuck in a traffic jam. The engine light comes on. I know that the seals need to be replaced because when it warms up, when it gives gas, it releases smoke.
