Reviving A Dying Shimano V-Brake/Shifter Combo and easy repair @Middletown Cycling 502-384-0770

A common problem with older bicycles is shifters "dying". Many time the problem is caused by hardened grease and springs weakening over time. With older more entry level models especially with the V-Brake Shifter combo, often times it is not worth replacing the set if the shifter has died. With a few basic tools and Tri-flow, or other spray grease you can often breath life back into them with a few easy steps. This video will show you how to do that.

Super awesome post! The technical term the part you lubricated is a shifting holding pawl which needs to grab into the shifting cam, as you showed it got sticky and did not continue to engage....and as you suggest lubricating and moving to free up from debris is very fast effective fix. Thanks again to put on youtube, now my shifter is working very well!

Thanks: just fixed my wife's bike's front shifter that wasn't shifting onto the largest chainring. This video gave me the courage to open the shifter without springs and cogs erupting everywhere. Some GT-85 and a bit of TLC on the spring, and all is well now.
