Had lots of GPZ's in the past (600/900/750) I also have a GPX250 & KLE500 (both in bits). The 305 has had a lot of stick over the years but I always thought it an ideal little bike for work etc & secretly thought it looked quite cool especially in black/orange. I knew a guy with a 250 Scorpion in the 80's & for a 4T (we all had 2T) it went really well. Ignore the BS & enjoy the rebuild I think it's the right thing to do. Looking forward to updates. Always fancied a ZZR250 .

I totally concur with your mindset Oscar and was thinking the solution through before you mentioned it !. I did the same with a Yamaha XS500 I bought new, rediscovered years later in a perilous state and got for peanuts a ' blown ' donor bike which was just as well as many parts had become extinct .I also agree with trying to maintain as many ' cycle ' parts of ' your ' bike, a lot would not be bothered with this , a first ' big ' bike like my Yamaha you never forget and becomes part of your ' bike life ' just as the first one did !. Great content and good luck.

That doner bike is the Perfect find, really happy at your luck on that. Restorations are for love, not money. It's my hobby and i lose an average of £1,000 per bike, (And i don't care one jot),but you should at least break even, and have a nice bike you once owned, it's a win-win.

Brilliant news that you got yourself a donor bike I'd probably keep it as original to when you owned it as possible I can't remember what your tank was like but if it's bad then maybe get the new one repainted to match unless the other one will clean up ok inside & then you can put a tank repair resin inside it to keep it in good condition. As for the eBay seller it all sounded a bit shady to me I reckon all the parts were there but probably misplaced them when you went to pick it up as it seems weird that some started to appear after you picked the bike up, sounds to me like he were gonna try & rip you off so I think you've done the right thing with the donor bike.

Id flat pack all the remaining bits from the donor bike, and box them off as spares, same goes with the body work. So you have spares on tap if needed. The frame you could either sell, or hang it, same goes with the rear wheel, either wall mount it or sell it.

Glad your giving the bike a new life. Are you just cleaning it up or going the full resto route ie strip blast and repaint the frame and all the other stuff involved? I have done a few. The full resto ones are very rewarding BUT they are so nice when done you hardly dare use them. The clean up ones dont look as good but you wont worry if you get caught in the rain.
