I have been following you since your daughter used to do the videos. I find your situation fascinating. It's not everyone that has their own oil well or grows tomatoes and whatever in the winter in Ohio.

I learned why many pumpjacks sit idle. I just assumed the wells were empty, but they only get ran a little bit and are used mainly for natural gas.

Yes most time we only run it a half hour a day. Thats all we need to get the oil off and let the NG in and then back and forth. It is amazing how it works.

Neat little pump jack you have there. Looks like it needs new packing on the top. I’m an oil field operator up in Alberta that also gardens for fun! Most of my wells are a few miles deep.

I enjoy your channel. I have a question unrelated to this video. What is the earliest that you could start your hydroponic strawberries, and can you carry them through the summer heat? What does the production schedule look like? Your videos are an awesome resource! Thanks, Jeff Murdock

Hi Jeff. So, we use Albion which are an everbearing variety. We like them because they produce all year and we after the June berries are done, we get a premium for our strawberries because no one else grows them. Summer does reduce production, but they pick up big time in the fall and are supper sweet.

So jealous you get to have your own oil well! We don’t own anything below an inch In Australia! That polished rod is extremely close to tagging the top of the stuffing box with the top collar. If you ever put new stuffing box seals in beware that it may tag out on it causing damage!
@gardnep
@gardnep 4 ай бұрын
I think you mean we don’t own the minerals unless we have a very old land title, (there are still a few about). It means all land in Australia is owned by the crown. Land owners only own a title or entitlement to use that land. In the US I hear, landowners can own to the ‘core of the earth’? And raffetry rules.

Very interesting, 4k ft deep wow. . I think the wire-ropes might should have a lot more grease on them. & not the high-temp red grease. 6:15 10/10.

Thank you...will have to check that. I know we are going to paint it but will look into some wire rope lubricant.

Good morning. Glad you got your well fixed. I had a quick question. I have a heated greenhouse that I keep at 52-80 degrees and my kale new leaves are a lighter green. I’ve seen this before but I can’t remember what it was to fix it. Could you offer some advice? Would love to send a pic but can’t get it loaded here.

Kale with light green leaves is mostly in need of iron. Add just a pinch of chelated iron to your solution..

I remember you mentioning it, but seeing you own your own oil well is crazy. I guess that also provides CO2 for your greenhouse.

would like your wizdom for my lettuce . For my first 12 monts of hydroponic, i use to dilute nutriment as per instruct on on the bottle and monitor ph with test strip. then i heard about those electronic pencil to check EC and PH, then run water around 1250 ec and 5.8 ph but lettuce became very slow to grow and wimpy. so i'have don some test. at home plane tap water, with adjust water, hot and cold = 77*F ph of 7.13 ec or cm 310 ppm 158 &&&&& i use a syringe to precisely measured solution , 4ML bloom, 8ML micro and 14ML grow for a 4 liters bottle as per instruction of those bottle. result: with water temp of 73.4 *F ph of 5.94 ( adjusted with INDO ph down) us/cm or ec 2110 ppm 1050 should i try running the sys at EC 2110 ?? Thanks !

hmmm not sure I run my EC at 1.5 to 1.8 and ph. at 5.8 Have you had your source water analyzed? You may be adding something to your nutrients that may already be in your source water. I'm not sure.

Thanks for you follow-up my time line experience with hydroponic: ( i will repeat my self sine i'm french and I write as I speak , d'oh ! ) first year, add nutriment in 4 liters water bottle and monitor PH with test strip, no idea the EC was existing. as per* hydroponic tower* nutriment mixing chart ( 3 parts nutriment) for a 4 liters of water. 8 ml of micro, 4ml of bloom and 14ml of grow, i run the tower with that mixt and hadded great result for the first year. then test strip expired date was close, at the same time i foud that EC range of 0.8 to 1.2 or 800 to 1200 for lettuce. ( i purchase a electronic pencil style and check calibration was ok) i then check the tower EC and was near 1800 EC ( to high) so a add only water with a PH around 6.0 so EC went down. Then low germination, very slow grow, a bit yellow leaf occured, i completely de-assemble the tower, deep clean and re-start, with a EC around 1150, still low germination, and still very slow to grow. so i did water test. at home tap water, with adjust water, hot and cold = 77*F ph of 7.13 ec or cm 310 ( no nutriment added) ppm 158 &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& i add nutriment in home tap water as per tower nutriment chart, result with water temp of 73.4 *F ph of 5.94 with PH down added us/cm or ec 2110 ppm 1050 &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& then i purchase distilled water ( 4 liters) i add nutriment as per tower nutriment chart, result" at 65.3*F PH 5.48 no PH down added EC 2010 PPM 1010 &&&&&&&&&&&&&&& so i went back to add nutriment as per tower chart, and give less importance to EC number , the 800 to 1200. i'm back at around EC 2010 with distilled water, water tank is only 24 liters since then 100% germination ( only 1 seed per cup) , grow speed is ok, leaf are green and straight up ! so those EC number of 800 to 1200, is it for indoor hydroponic or outdoor ?? since the deep clean re-start, i monitor and wrote number down for the EC, PH, TEMP, PPM ( every morning) just to see if they are stable. ( it is sine 15 days) also, i download city water test report and send it to the tower manufacturer the answer from the tower manufacturer was : It looks like most of the dissolved solids were nitrates, which in most cases should be fine or even beneficial to the plants. so i will run the tower as per tower nutriment chart and i guest it should ok i also order hydroponic seed for Jonny's and mentioned about Homegrown Passion. Thanks for all of your Vid, it's very help full
