@Memer Dreamer true true, its really the type of engine for people who are die hard hobby enthusiasts. Personally i enjoy the hobby but i too have never spent that much on an engine. frankly most of the os engines i've had were from things like second hand that needed a rebuild or one time at a yard sale and they had no idea about rc cars and it had a nice os engine in it. But i've never bought a new one. I remember at the time of this comment i had a revo that i did a .28 but i just got one of those chinese ones and it still was an impressive and fun engine sounded great too.

@iuliuspeverini the axial .28 spec 1 is a low grade engine, stock it is pretty slow compared to a OS.28, but in a revo it will still feel powerful, with the drag mod it should wake up its top end, but it will not be powerful like a drag mod OS.28. I think he make a deal with the break-in...not sure.

@MikePeperni Well, touch wood I've never had any transmission problems apart from stripping the out put gear (the weak one with the reverse kit). I did a forward only conversion after that and have had no more problems so far. I bet knowing my luck it will break now next time I take it out! Can't afford RR gears, although they are very nice. I think I'll fiddle with the engine mount, try and make it more adjustable and sort out this mesh. Keep up the great videos!!

@FRYEGUY247 it was not lean, im thinking about either wheel spin making the tire bouncing or the rear diff partialy stripping or the slipper clutch losing grip.... other than that i have no idea :)

@Jtaullie77 You can get them from most LHS, but you can get them on towerhobbies, hpi tremor wheels with phaltlines tires, they come pre-glued, or seperatly, get the black rims, the chrome fluke and the tire will unglue... :)

@MikePeperni Ahh that might be it then. I was considering a steel spur gear but I've heard so many horror stories about people destroying diffs and gearboxes when they get a steel spur. @revorocks123 Geared like that im surprised you didnt stripped the 2nd speed gear in the transmission, the plastic spur gear is supposed to handle more than the 2nd speed gear in transmission, i never stripped a spur, but did strip the 2nd speed gear 4-5 times. For top speed its a must to keep things free rolling (stock one can be unbalanced and they are too big..) We never broke a set of cvd's so i guess its a good thing to get. Stock ones are okay if you dont abuse even with big power.

@MikePeperni i have the same engine with revo, is it a direct drop in?? if not what mods did you have to do to get it fitted?
@MikePeperni9 жыл бұрын
+Eddie Deschamps i used the traxxas big block mount, you may need to grind the mount slightly to fit the engine or to fit bigger gears depending the gearing you have or want to run, if the gears dont align you can enlarge the holes on the chassis for the transmission, just make them oval, it give adjustement to move forward or backward, not sideways. Other than that i used the traxxas big block header and a 086 tuned pipe, you just need to make a pipe hanger. I think thats mostly what ive done to fit the engine, you have to remove the roll bar on top as well. If you want to get crazy power on top end ABmods have the recipe, i helped a lot during the testing and its just completly nuts the power this engine hide in stock form, even stock its pretty good though! :)

What kind of flywheels and clutch bell set up are you using and can I have the part numbers
@MikePeperni9 жыл бұрын
Michael Lovett I think i used an ofna big block flywheel and purple clutch shoes with strong springs, and for this run i think its a 19t clutchbell, we got it up to 75mph on a longer and cleaner road and could gone faster it bcame unstable..., i did a quick search (been 4-5 years i havent touched a RC car...) heres the clutch www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKKF6&P=7The flywheel: www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDSW4&P=7Spacers: (always good to have) www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNXG1&P=7Flywheel nut: www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNUM6&P=7For the clutchbell, if you dont use fishing on the phaltline they will expand and use a 17t-18t maximum, if you use the fishing line around the tires use the 19t, you can use an HPI one or robinson racing one for big block. It also depend what engine you are running. Keep in mind you might need a little grinding here and there to make it work, i dont remember if its on this setup but i remember in one setup i had the enlarge (oval) the transmission mounting hole on the chassis to move the transmission forward to align the clutch bell and spur. (i recommend using the robinson racing metal gear set for transmission, i remember there was a critical part at least to change i dont remember wich one.... just get the completet kit you will be sure :)

I have to chnge mine 3.3 and not sure to buy a big block or convert to electric... i like aceleration and no more than 60 mph... what do you think in mine better choice? Tks
@MikePeperni9 жыл бұрын
Federico Maggi If you want to go electric, id suggest you to buy a complete new truck instead, it will be better in the long run, if you jump your truck and land upside down it will be dangerous with a big block, the ead stick outside more, but still Worth it for the power, an OS.28 would suit your need in big block department, and they react well to modding as well, they become real beast, i got my revo up to 75mph with this engine and it could gone faster the rear was too light at high speed and became unstable..... If you dont jump then go with a big block, if you have the money and never had an electric you will be amazed by the power and ease of use. If you never seen a .18TZ in action, id suggest you to get this engine and get it modified professionaly by someone like ABmods, get the drag mod and you will be very happy, its small, powerful and run very good, and you dont need to get a different mount, i think you just need to grind a little part of it to get it to fit at worst (not sure been a long time). I could hit 52mph on stock 15t/38t gearing with a drag modded .18TZ instead of 43-45mph with the stock 3.3

Hey Mike. So I had AB Mods work on a .28xz for me. I’ve been trying to break it in and I’ve been driving it around and I just can’t get the engine temps above 150. I have tried running it on the lean side just to get the temps up around 200 but it won’t get above 150. I tried richening it and the temps drop even more. Is that normal? Any suggestions?
@MikePeperni4 жыл бұрын
When outside temperature are cold its normal, one thing you can do is make sure your temp gauge is accurate, if it is then you can use a sock that you cut and keep the ''leg'' part, you wrap the ngine's head with the sock use the lenght you need to keep it the temp you want. :)
@alberteyde80244 жыл бұрын
MikePeperni I’m in Florida, it’s been in the high 80’s here. Maybe the temp gauge is off. I know the temperature doesn’t matter a whole lot but I should at least be running at about 200 if the ambient temperature is 80, right?
@alberteyde80244 жыл бұрын
I was using bryons 20% with 16% lubricant. Maybe that is why????
@MikePeperni4 жыл бұрын
@@alberteyde8024 Yeah it should hit 200, the gauge is probably off, the major issue with running it too cold is premature wear or failure of the conrod. They are tough but it can happen. :) If the engine feel decently tuned it probably is, dont try to overlean it, unless performance increase by leaning it. If not , and/or you hear the engine stutter after a wide open throttle pass, its too lean. What are you running the engine on?

@MikePeperni9 жыл бұрын
Rama Pucci For the suspension, i used a tie-wrap (zip-tie) around the rockers (grey suspension thingy) , just press on the truck you will see how they work, the zip-tie is used to keep the suspension compressed, make the a-arms level with the ground, not too low you have to keep some suspension travel... thats what i did, run stiff springs if you can it will be more stable... for the tires at that time the best option was the HPI Phaltline tires with tremor wheels (black wheels not chrome that will peels) , the tires can handle about 65-70 mph, what i did is use fishing line around the tires glue in CA glue that way they dont expand, but now some use new tires that were not available at that time, i dont remember the name but i think they are made by traxxas. :) goodluck!
