Two questions about the Alaska panniers: Are the lids removable, or only tilt open? Also, do you always have to use the key to unlock the lids, or can the latch remain unlocked and be opened without having to put a key in it?

I really don't like the idea of my side cases being easily removable... Seems like the setup for a series of unfortunate theft events...

Most of them can't be removed without a key. Neither can they be opened without it.
