adjustable everything... She's top heavy and not built for anyone below avg hgt. Most off road action you can just put 2 gallons in her and she will run over 100 miles and be 25 lbs lighter up top. The base model is the same. 5g tank, leave 3 g out and run the bike at 480lbs. Dirtbikes don't typically have over 2g anyway. If you are riding on the road, gas her up and see if you can go 300 miles...

I picked up the 2022 version of this bike as my very 1st motorcycle. I gotta say I couldn't be happier with this bike both on and off road. It is a big bike and I'm not a very big person at 5'6" and 175lbs. That being said once you get this tall heavy bike moving it handles really well.

@@theautobarber9403 My left leg is partially paralyzed and I cant work a foot shifter. The Africa Twin with the DCT was a good fit to try and see if I could even ride a motorcycle. It was this or the Rebel 1100 with the DCT and I'm not much of a cruiser fan and the AT had better re-sale if it didn't work out. Turns out I absolutely love riding and I bought a Ducati Streetfighter V4SP2 as my 2nd bike added an electronic speed shifter to control the foot lever for me. It's an absolute riot to ride and pretty fast for a naked bike. I'm on the hunt for a true sport bike next. I cant decide between the S1000RR M-Package or the Honda CBR-RR Fireblade. The BMW has so many great features for the road, is highly tunable, and all around a killer machine. The Fireblade is nothing but a weapon of speed which is appealing since I already have a comfortable commuter and offraod bike in the Africa Twin, a decently comfortable naked bike with a true 200whp after upgrades and tuning.... It's a tough call because I can't test ride a bike with a standard shifter. I have to base my purchasing off or reviews, data, and just sitting on the bikes statically.

530lbs isn't too bad. But combined with the long travel suspension I can see it being awkward for some at stop signs and intersections. I have a CB1100 which is closer to 550lbs but lower to the ground. Really not heavy in most cases. 6.5 gallons sounds great for commuting or long rides. Thanks for the awesome video as always

I just started riding last year and live in a small town. Im 6'1" 175lbs. Ive only ever ridden my 2000 Vulcan 500 and seen a couple of Harleys and Goldwings. I finally got to see an adv bike in person yesterday and holy hell are they big. This Africa Twin is GIGANTIC. I understood the size of a Goldwing (Its like a van on two wheels). I did NOT understand from youtube videos that an African Twin or a Tenere 1200 or Versys 1000 would be just as big if only in a different way. They may not weigh as much but they are HUGE in person. I plan on getting the Honda nc750x or vstrom650 but even the V-strom 650 in person seemed big. But not much bigger than the nc750x so idk. In summary, I'm just saying that these bikes are huge and are super intimidating

I moved to a 2021 ATAS DCT from a 2017 V650 LT. Other than price the AT is all around a better bike imo. Shockingly good handling too, wasn’t expecting that, and I had ridden the 2016 and was unimpressed with handling. The newer gen made changes to the frame etc and it shows. It’s about 95% of the handling of the Versys due to the larger wheels, but magnitudes better on dirt roads and comfort overall. Plus even more fuel range and still low octane fuel. The electronic suspension is like having multiple bikes in one, CarPlay is awesome on a bike and DCT is fantastic. Amazing package overall. It feels no more heavy than the Versys too, which shows how well they managed the CG on the Africa twin, it weighs 75 lbs more (50 with luggage on the LT). Give one a try!

I road one of these a few weeks ago for a few hundred miles. So I will share my opinions if anyone cares. Horrible around town but lovely on the motorway. It is so stable! And the handlebars just left you leaver it well on twistier roads. But yeah, the minute you have stop start traffic it was miserable. I put that down to the jerky throttle response that Zak mentions and the aggressive engine breaking and somewhat harsh breaks. The seat height wasn't a problem for me, except for the fact that the foot pegs seem to be exactly where your legs would be when you put your foot down, forcing them out to a wider position. Also. Its really heavy. I have a GTR1400 as my normal bike, which is heavier, but its lower to the ground, whereas that weight up high on the Africa Twin makes the weight really obvious. However, on the last leg of my journey, I ended up in a flash storm, and had to drive on a semi flooded motorway whilst filtering, then through several severely flooded south london streets, roads covered in gravel. It was completely unfazed by any of that. So if you do live somewhere a little off the beaten path, then this might really be for you.
@tHaH4x0r2 жыл бұрын
Have you tried flashing the ECU? I heard it helps with a lot of choppy throttle issues for a lot of modern bikes. The choppy throttle is usually caused by running very lean, which is necessary to pass Euro 4/5 compliance testing.

I’ve got a Honda Africa twin 2021 manual and I’m 5’9 and my inseam is 32 IN with boots. This is my first bike and I took a driving course last week. And now have my license. The bike is so huge and heavy it’s so scary turning it. The power is fine I can go shift into second and come to a clean stop. I practiced going up and down a hill no issues and stopping at an incline and going without rolling backwards got all that down. Got onto the road and practiced going and turning around within two lanes to the left and right but it’s so scary I don’t think I am going to be able to master it on this bike. In class I was doing circles at 25 mph no problem. I guess I’m gonna pay it off and sell it to buy a new one maybe I’ll be riding in a year if I’m lucky.

I'm generally not a big fan of ADV bikes, as far as their looks goes. I tend to gravitate toward the more classic styling of a Bonneville or Interceptor 650. My friend recently traveled across country to come visit on his KLR650 and I got a chance to take his bike for a spin and loved the comfort of it, but really don't like the looks. I currently own a TW200 and an RE Interceptor 650. I like the TW because it fits in the back of my short bed pickup truck and I can take it camping and it's the perfect bike for cruising around the Big Horn mountains here in WY and I love the INT650 for cruising around my small town for a quick half hour to hour long ride but quickly realized that doing longer 100+ mile trips isn't optimal on it. I've tried changing the peg position, got a Motone 1" up and 1" back bar riser and an aftermarket touring seat and it still just doesn't compare to the KLR my friend has, comfort wise. I'm also finding myself growing out of the HP of my INT650 and would like to do some long rides. I've seen the Africa Twin at a couple dealerships around me and especially love that classic Honda red white and blue with gold wheels color scheme, like in this video. I have a feeling this bike will definitely be in my future in the next 2 or 3 years. It actually looks good and I'm very impressed with the range on it, wow! Anyway, sorry for the long comment and thanks for the great comprehensive video Zack!

Was in my Honda shop today getting some lube to change my final drive and was looking at this exact bike. What a ride! In 1975 i bought a 72' Honda XL 250 with my first check from my first job. I was 15. This bike took me right back to then. I loved being able to just turn L/R and hit a trail! I would have bought this bike today except for ONE thing. At 58, 6'1" 235lbs, the height and center of balance makes for quite a challenge, I would suppose. I see my future actually riding someones for the day or at least half before dropping 20g's. It would certainly take a few trips away from my GoldWing from what I am told for being able to hit the trail/camp ect. We'll see come November. Ooh just imagine, a new bike with abilities that outweigh the cost, reliable and ready to function in the modern world with historical value. It'll go great with our second term POTUS!

it seems so easy for Kawasaki to just build a 2 cylinder version of the KLR-650. A paralell twin is what turns a motorcycle into an Adventure Bike. Having 75 horsepower instead of 42 horsepower, would make a KLR a more versatile bike. They could even make it a KLR-600 twin. A twin would produce way more smoothness, more top speed, and shorter gear ratios for driving slow in the woods (parallel twins can idle extremely low).

Seriously this is NOT Rocket science , a mobile phone has a FAR bigger learning curve , i am a very average IQ , you or anybody would be VERY FOOLISH to let any scare mongering about how hard it is to use that bloomin console , ITS NOT HARD AT ALL, a quick look at any video on you tube of it and it becomes childs play and quite enjoyable.

Good review Zack. I like the way you discuss the controls and display while riding, just the way an owner would need to deal with the complexity of the controls, while in situation. The discussion and comparison between competitors is valid and accurate. Honda has built a good upgrade to their original new AT bike. I also like the way Honda packaged the bike. Pick the AS version and you get all the pieces, verses getting pinged for multiple packages and individual options that stack prices up and up. I missed the heated seat and grips discussion. Does it come with those two features or not?

20:25 I mean, considering how easy it is to put wheelie control in the software since they already have it developed. It's just a selling argument. Most adventure bikes don't really need it but it sells so it's there.

i've test ridden the adv dct with electronic suspensions. It's 250kgs, but you can't really feel the weight. The seat height is pretty low at 82cm, the saddle is narrow. My 2017 is 85cm and feels much higher.

I have a standard CRF 1000 mechanical gearbox, model year 2018, i.e. second version with ride by wire and 4 riding modes. I rode it 11 000 km, the majority on tours with my spouse. We appreciate its flexibility and its altogether smooth but not boring manners, but there is a couple of technical points I would like to know about the 2020 model. The load capacity of the CRF1000L is 213kg, including everything (accessories, luggage, passengers). It is relatively modest for traveling with pillion. Because the standard and DCT have the same chassis and the DCT is heavier, its load capacity is even down to 195kg. For comparison, a smaller 650 Vstrom legally endures 230kg of cargo. If it was not for duo riding capacity, I would have preferred a lighter and less expensive bike than the CRF 1000. What about the cargo capacity of the new models ? My second question : when coming to a stop, the CRF1000 tends to fall at the exact moment you come to the complete stop. The bike is very stable at 15km/h, but if you forget to use the rear brake, the release of the diving of the mellow fork when you reach zero speed may surprise you, especially with a fully loaded bike (you will not notice that when riding solo with almost no cargo). I also find that achieving very tight hairpins turns on narrow mountain roads is more difficult than on a street bike, especially on steep ascents and with the passenger. OK, I know you have to lean the bike and counterbalance, but with pillion and the mass transfer in ascent, it needs practice to succeed. As a whole, the height of this bike makes is not super accessible for the passenger. Would these points be noticeably better with the electronic suspension and/or the DCT ?

6:57 - Wind hits him in the shoulders. This is PERFECT. That's where the vents are in jackets! How about a comparo versus Versys 1k, V-Strom and Super10? 26:10 - Sounds good to Mr.-I-don't-like-parallel-twins, eh? Hi praise indeed. We need a comparo vs. DL1000, Versys 1000 and Super10. Forget the stupide Euro bikes for the moment. Most of the USA is not thinking about them, they're too expensive.

Another superb review. would love to see Honda CB500X on this channel. We definitely need any bike to dethrone the Versys ;-)

Great review. Riding one myself after owning my Multistrada, I found it lacking in almost every category on road. However, if I spent a lot of time off road I would give it more consideration.

Gotta factor in reliability, servicability and maintenance costs too... this is where the Japanese bikes will always shine

The most reliable adventure motorcycle without a doubt, if what you want to do is go far and forget the reliability problems of other brands, an engine with a very low compression, an engine for life, I think Honda has succeeded in designing such an engine , an oil filter, for example, which is carried by many cars and sold anywhere in the world, suspensions that, even though they are electronic, are light years away in reliability than those mounted for example by bmw or ducati ... a almost perfect bike in my opinion.

Great as ever - wish RevZilla did have more of a UK presence - international shipping's a pain. And wish there was a CB1100T - not an RR, R or even an F. Just a decent plodder roadster with this engine - and probably frame and electronics. Akin to the R1250R, slightly forward leaning ergos, bit of a wind deflector but no real screen, and just something with decent everyday performance, long distance range and comfort, and honda reliability. Without the ADV stance. A sedan/saloon not an SUV/crossover in 4 wheel terms. Must be old.

I would add that in comparing the GSA to the AT is that Honda’s commitment long term has always been lacking. Honda does not keep the parts inventory that BMW has always done. Try getting a part for the 2003 AT bike. In fact you can get all the parts for say a 1976 R90s bike but not at Honda!

Damn you better be 6-2 to ride this thing. I sat one yesterday. I am 5-9.5 and for me my Tiger800 is the perfect size. I am a very experienced rider but even just getting on the damn thing I had to focus to throw it upright as I swung my leg over. I'm sure it's a great bike but to me it's every bit a Big Man's bike fasho.

I am an odd duck duck here maybe but I have the first year crf1000l dct and have ridden each of the models since and honestly they are more refined sort of...I have always felt like the first model is what Honda meant it to be without the design being hampered by the "market" ...it is really just a big damn crf250l that you can travel on....I did get bitten by the fork tubes going bad... and just did ohlins front forks and an ohlins rear shock ...I feel like Honda built the best real world big adv bike out there for 80-20 users. It is Not a ktm for heroes that just want to beat a big bike like it is a hard enduro beta300, or race like 450ktm, or tour like a 1200gs...it is an approachable big 80-20 adv for real avg. people who like to ride and enjoy it... Just as a side note the ohlins set up from cogent is far better (lightyears) than any of the factory versions I have ridden...it is lost in the noise sometimes but the standard model is also one of the shortest seat height, while still keeping ground clearance big advs out there...also very easy to open the cockpit up to ride standing if you are tall and have long arms (flip the handle bar risers around) so if you are 6'4" with short legs and long arms ;-) no problems. I have done several 3 and 4 week camping tours of the western us 7-11kmi on it and it will do the job....carry a gallon of gas out west just in case.
