Honestly kinda shocked that Black Tyranno didn't make any sort of appearance. While Rex only used it briefly, Black Tyranno is very much a progenitor for the bright future that dino decks would have. As various "Tyranno" monsters would evolve steadily higher stats and more substantial effects until it produced the ultimate Apex Predator of any Dinosaur Deck; Ultimate Conductor Tyranno. And Black Tyranno was the one who started it all.

Funny thing about King Rex. It's actually halfway decent in Yu-Gi-Oh the Falsebound Kingdom. It doesn't hit particularly hard, but it's an absolute unit that develops a healing factor at a higher level, and due to the fact that you can't use more than one copy of any given monster, it's what provides the two heads for Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, which is actually pretty good itself, though Thunder Dragon isn't likely to survive long enough to fuse

12:15 This one gives me an idea for a boss monster for a new hypothetical “Colony” archetype: _Colony Queen_ (EARTH) Level 7 Insect/Effect _You can normal summon this card without tributes if you control a face-up “Colony” Field Spell. While this card is face-up on the field, if you summon a Level 4 or lower insect monster: You can special summon any number of monsters with the same name as it from your hand. Your opponent cannot target this card for attacks or card effects while you control another face-up insect monster. You can tribute 1 card from your hand or field (Quick Effect): Increase this card’s ATK/DEF by 500, then Apply 1 of the following effects (Each of the following Effects of “Colony Queen” can only be applied once per turn):_ ⚪️Insect monsters you control can attack an additional time per battle phase this turn. ⚪️Special Summon any number of “Colony Tokens” (Insect/Tuner/EARTH/Level 1/ATK 100/DEF 100). ⚪️Add 1 Spell/Trap to your hand from your deck that mentions “Insect” in it’s or effects. ATK/2200 DEF/2400
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire9 ай бұрын
Ok, looking by at how Rex had more Dragon monsters here than Dinosaur monsters, I’m wanting to make an “Evolution” spell that can make that work for a Dinosaur Deck: _Temporal Evolution Pill_ Quickplay Spell _Tribute 1 Dinosaur monster you control: Apply 1 of the following effects:_ ⚪️Special Summon 1 Winged-Beast, Wyrm or Dragon monster from your hand or deck who’s Total ATK/DEF is equal to or less than the tribute’s. ⚪️Special Summon 1 Reptile, Sea-Serpent, Fish or Aqua monster from your hand or deck whose total ATK/DEF is equal to or less than the tributes. Basically the idea is to tap into some real facts surrounding dinosaurs, and have one either “devolve” into a kind of life form that preceded it (The second efffect) or succeeded it (Winged-Beasts, AKA Birds, or Wyrms and Dragons, whom owe their existence as myths in part due to how older peoples interpreted any Dinosaur bones they found).

17:15 Perfectly Ultimate always deserved a proper retrain (besides those kinda-sorta ones like “Ultimate Great Insect”): _Perfected Great Moth_ (EARTH) Level 8 Pendulum Scales: 7⬅️➡️7 _Each turn, 1 Level 5 or higher Insect monster you Normal Summon can be Summoned without Tributing, and if you do, you can increase or decrease this card’s pendulum scales by up to it’s level. While this card is face-up in your pendulum zone, you can conduct an additional normal summon/set of an insect monster per turn, not just 1. If any number of Insect monsters you control would be destroyed by battle or an opponent’s card or effect: You can tribute 1 card from your hand or field instead._ Insect/Pendulum/Effect _Cannot be normal Summoned/Set. Must be special summoned by its own effect. You can tribute 3 insect monsters you control (Quick Effect): Special Summon this card from your hand, Pendulum Zones, or your extra deck (Face-up). Cannot be destroyed by battle, and unaffected by other card’s effects, while you control a face-up Level/Rank/Link 7 or lower Insect monster. Once per turn (Quick Effect), you can special summon any number of “Ultimate Moth Tokens” (Insect/Tuner/EARTH/Level 1/ ATK/350 DEF/300)._ ATK/3500 DEF/3000 So basically you need 3 insect monsters to special summon it, and its pendulum effects can help set up those conditions. Meanwhile while it IS on the field, it’s borderline indestructible so long as you control a lesser insect monster (which it can summon en-masse once per turn via it’s own built in Scapeghost)

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 2 Dragon and Dinosaur monsters each from your field or GY. Negate any Spell/Trap cards or effects that target this card on the field, and if you do, destroy that Spell/Trap. Once per turn, during the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 card in your hand or field, and if you do, change all face-up monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position. This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each. At the start of the Damage Step, if this card attacks a Defense Position monster: Inflict Piercing battle damage, then banish that Defense Position monster._ ATK/5000 DEF/5000

And the way the Deck was set up in that Event, it did indeed use the Goki pair the way you mentioned, then going off into Link Climbing! And it's funny, you badmouth Red-Eyes, yet, Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth is the reason why Meteor Black Dragon is one of the best cards and certainly best and strongest Prize Card in Forgbidden Memories! The way that game worked meant that Meteor Black Dragon would always have an advantage over the overgrown Mothra wannabe! Especially with my deck, running 3 Meteor Black Dragon, 3 Meteor Dragon and 3 Red-Eyes Black Dragon! If I can't get at least one Meteor Black Dragon by my 5th Turn, I'd Bricked, no two ways about it! And Monarchs and Kaiju can also take advantage of the Seal of Orichalchum, as they don't need the Extra Deck, either, although, they do both have their own Field Spells, which you could argue are better anyway... But, I did have one Duel on Master Duel with my Kaiju Deck, where the Seal would have given me an OTK! My opponent finished with four Monsters on the Field, I had Ghidorah, Ra Sphere Mode and Owner's Seal in hand, along with Kyoto Waterfront - the card which, upon play, made him quit!

15:15 I can retrain this card to make it MUCH better for bringing out Insect boss monsters: _Cocoon of Infinite Evolution_ Level 1 Insect/Union/Tuner/Effect _Once per turn, you can either: Target 1 face-up Insect monster you control; equip this card (from your hand or field) to that target, OR: Unequip this card and Special Summon it. If the equipped monster would be destroyed by battle or card effect, tribute this card instead. Cannot be destroyed while it is equipped to another card by its own effects. The equipped monster gains 2000 DEF, and cannot be destroyed while in defense position. During the beginning of each phase, increase the equipped monster’s level/rank by 1. Once per turn (quick effect), you can tribute the equipped monster: Special Summon 1 insect monster from your hand or deck who’s level is less than or equal to the level/rank the equipped monster had while it was on the field, ignoring it’s summoning conditions._ ATK/0 DEF/2000 So basically, it “Cocoon’s” the equipped monster, and bolsters its survivability greatly while it fattens it up to summon whatever insect monster is ready for it. And making it stack up at the start of each phase keeps the time related aspect, but makes it WAY faster than the original cards turns of waiting. 21:22 and THEN I can make a better version of THIS card: _Species Barrier_ Continuous Spell _During the beginning of each players turn, declare 1 monster type: For the rest of the turn, monsters of that declared type your opponent controls cannot declare an attack or target cards you control for their effects._ And THEN for 8:13… _Advanced Insect_ (EARTH) Level 2 Insect/Tuner/Effect _This card’s name is also treated as “Basic Insect” while face-up in the field or in the GY. If you control a face-up “Forest” card or “Basic Insect” (Quick Effect): You can special summon this card from your hand. This card can be treated as a non/tuner for your summon of a monster. Insect monsters you control can make an additional attack per battle phase for every insect monster you control, and if they attack a defense position monster: Inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent._ ATK/500 DEF/700 THERE, I played into its card text, leaning in on the “Forest” and “Swarm” parts.

I think it's a shame Rex's loss to Espa Roba wasn't reversed since Espa Roba was exposed as a cheater. I would've preferred a rematch with Joey.

Or maybe since Joey dueled Weevil and Mako (two of Yugi's opponents from Duelist Kingdom) in Battle City, Rex could have gotten a duel against Yugi

0:14 why does I have the feeling the video was just an excuse to tell those puns?

Weevil deserves more credit. He actually uses a distinct strategy in every duel he’s in. He actually plays well against Atem in Waking the Dragons without cheating. He would have even won had Atem not gotten lucky with Berserker Soul or if he waited to activate his burn card. It wasn’t even really a misplay. You could argue Seal of Orichalcos was OP but Berserker Soul felt cheap too especially since we never see that card before or after this duel.
@ugochukwunyere31962 ай бұрын
26:14 you could also negate the seal of oricalchos temporarily because the destroy special summoned monsters part only works when it’s activated

It would be interesting to get a Seal retrain that locks both players out of the Extra Deck while giving the attack boost. I'm not sure what the maintenance cost would be, probably make you tribute a monster each turn but it would be an interesting way to make an old iconic anime card meta relevant.

Was going to say Fusilier Dragon isn't a dragon-type until I saw King Dragun doesn't summon Dragon-type monsters, but rather just Dragon monsters. Wild!

I remember opening Tyrant dragon a few days after seeing the episode it debuted, I thought it was so badass and op.

I kinda miss the days when YGO villains were not only over the top, but cheaters as well. Putting the heroes at a disadvantage with tricks rather than effects is cheesy, but fun.

Pulled a Serpent Night Dragon out of a Magic Ruler pack back in the day. Ngl, once the rush of pulling a secret rare faded, I was kinda pissed lol.

4:29 Don't you love the irony of some anime cards being so common they use them as cupholders, but ironically being rare to find in real life, while some cards in the anime are trated as "only 3 were printed", but in real life are treated as cupholders?

Are you referencing the fact that in the dub Esper Roba won Evil Knight Dragon and said, "It doesn't deserve a place in my Deck! But it might make a good coaster for my drink!" A line that Little Kuriboh used every time the character appeared.

Rex lost to Joey fair and square but Espa cheated and should have to give serpent knight dragon back

I really enjoy these thematic or character focused lists, yeah top 10 cool monsters is fun but gimme top 10 cards the pharoah would smash

I hope Serpent Night Dragon gets his own archetype. His name directly contrasts him with Seiaryu (Holy Knight Dragon in the OCG), and that monster got the Starry Knight archetype to support it. So maybe we could get an evil knight archetype for Serpent Night Dragon.

Konami need to make rex some dino dragons! They would be dragons that are so ancient and savage that they are like dinosaurs or dinosaurs evolved to a point in becoming dragon-like. Or make a fusion between red-eyes and a Dino

Rex : Red-eyes is the strongest monster Other : why tho Rex : A ferocious dragon with a deadly attack 😂😅😂😅

Surprised Rex's last boss monster during the Grand Tournament arc wasn't mentioned, Black Tyrano.

They did them dirty, should have given them the most broken decks... and still had them losing BADLY, just to show their lack of skills! Would have made it funnier to watch them lose!

Would love to see a "Serpent Night" or a "Night Dragon" archetype that would be a rival to the "Starry Knight" archetype.

it's kind of strange that there is no red-eyes dinosaur support... it made sense since he was the first person to summon the monster.

Pretty much why I hated Rex and Weevil. Both were introduced as Pro Duelists but over time got demoted to jobbers. Hard for me to take them seriously.

How has serpent knight not had a retrain or a whole archetype built around it yet?
@DemonRaticate9 ай бұрын
Fun fact: Seiyaryu is named Holy Knight Dragon… and it got a whole archetype based on it through retrains called Starry Night, Starry Dragon and their Starry Knight cards. Serpent Night Dragon is named Evil Knight Dragon in JP, so they were apparently counterparts.
@thegreatbocaj9 ай бұрын
I would love to see a modern Duelist Kingdom remake. There are enough retrains of cards now.

Somethings intersting about metamorphosed insect queen is that hse makes all insects monsters you control cannot be targeted or destroyed by card effects, which is protecing of hi first 2 loses where got destroyed by mirror force and the spell
@Windrake1014 ай бұрын
Man, that dissing of the Seal of Orichalcos at the end was unnecessary. One of these days Konami is gonna remember they never finished releasing support for the Orichalcos archtype, and release the rest of the Type's cards.
@TheAzulmagia9 ай бұрын
It's kind of funny that Weevil was the Japanese Champion and never really did anything in the show other than lose. But at least he had a better track record than Rex... even if it's only because he beat Rex in a duel.
@Aaron_Heininger7 ай бұрын
Sad after looking into a bug deck I feel insects are in a strange spot right now where dinos used to be. Where they have some good cards but are missing the right support to push them forward. Like ultimate conductor did for dinos. But as for the dragon mixed strategy I get the analogy cause if you think about it dinos where probably actually called dragons back in the olden days and where the last remnants of dinos that existed that got wiped out from being hunted or captured.
@BironBironBiron8 ай бұрын
I hope they turn Serpent Night Dragon into Ritual Archetype like Nepthyss. Instead of cult, make the Archetype a knight order with Dragon as their insignia (like Elizabeth Batory's Bator noble family and Vlad Dracul's Dracul family) in which they borrow the Serpent's power to take on the battlefield and ultimately, summon the very family's Symbol as their ultimate monster
@juanpablouriascruz14119 ай бұрын
At this point, you can put Insect Queen on your own banlist 😅 Also, what about top 10 cards that got other cards banned or limited, but they themselves remained untouched. (I.e. Gossip shadow, destiny hero Destroyer Phoenix enforcer, Topologic bomber dragón, etc.)

weevil was finalist material for both duelist kingdom and battle city. He simply challenged the wrong people . Rex was mediocre until after battle city, he even got offscreened in battle city. Weevil in the kaibacorp computer was rated 4/5, along side mai, rex was 3/5 just like bonz. both simply got power creeped since the type of duelists the protagonists faced later on were extremely formidable.
