Brilliant that they managed to get the two level tunes onto just 2 channels and still be great songs, leaving one more channel for sound effects! Too many C64 games were a choice between decent music or sound effects but not both...

I've been playing this game for close to 30 years and I've never heard that game over theme in it. The game over theme at 19:30 is the one that ordinarily plays, followed by the high score theme at 10:54 (which doubles as the ending theme).

@julienbraudel71093 жыл бұрын
@@roilo8560 No, he is not overrated. I really like how nowadays, you can affirm something without giving any argument to proove you are right (US barbarians from the social medias). Rob Hubbard is a pionneer on the C64 and also in the entire world video game music history (he began in 1984). He had is own specific sound and had a strong musical culture, that you can hear in the melodies and arrangements he made. He had been also copied and covered numerous times either, and inspired most of the greatest that followed. He also wrote classics for other platforms (Atari ST, Amiga, PC, Megadrive). Not many composers on the C64 can compete with him in terms of quality, sounds or arrangements. Hubbard is a main influence in the history of video game music and demoscene music.

The intro to Flimbo sounds so much like an 80s movie song, almost inspired by a real song if it's not! Of course it's 80s cause the game is made in 1990, but still has that classic movie intro/credits song feel.

Soundtrack is actually mainly by Johannes Bjerregaard. To my knowledge, Reyn Ouwehand only wrote the Intro - Part 1 and the Loader. So it would be the other way around..

the level themes seems curiously simple compared to intro and loader songs. Was it to save some CPU time for game logic / gfx ?
@AnnoyedArt12563 жыл бұрын
it's probably due to the intro and loader songs being composed by Reyn Ouwehand and the other songs like the levels themes being composed by Johannes Bjerregaard and that these two composers used different music routines. Also the level themes only use 2 channels leaving one channel for SFX.
@akapype2 жыл бұрын
@@AnnoyedArt1256 didn't know. Tnx. Indeed, if different composers were involved, it turns more natural that they're not sounding the same. And falling down to 2 channels surely didn't helped either (some games only mute the 3rd channel on demand, don't they?)
