First hearing Lowko described the game in his channel, and it sounded Skytoss is really powerful. Then watching Harstem as a progamer giving insight into the game. Its really an eye-opening experience. Especially when Harstem pointed it was not a skytoss as the DPS was actually done by ground units.

yeah, it's hard to see all those immortals hidden under the carriers, but there was quite a good number of them, plus, Lowko was too impatient. I bet he could have won this with just one viper and some patience, focusing on pulling in the immortals or carriers, or even burrowing the infestors he already had and mind controlling any unit he could get. As long as he kept his army intact, I don't think that protoss could leave his base onto the creep. (not saying I could have pulled it off, lol, but in hindsight, it's clear Lowko was snatching defeat from the jaws of victory here)

They get critical mass so easily and you can never beat them in the death ball. Vipers are the only way to pick at them, but it's not enough if the toss has more than 3-4 bases all game.

@@iKeks99 I think lowko played better than the toss here overall - but in the end lowko made a series of very costly mistakes and that is why he lost. I mean... I don't think he would have won this match if it was played before the buffs either, did we think skytoss was imba then? He lost because he used poor unit compositions for what he was fighting against, and attacked into chokes with them.

I know this video is "old" but if there would be a dps chart for induvidual units the carriers would be suprisingly low on that list, there was no fight where the carriers came to full effect caused by the ramp up time a carrier has. The immortal is prob 1st against the brutalisk fights and templar/archon against everything else, so yea 7 supporting carriers indeed, they are still scary dont get me wrong - it avoids zerg ground to completly dive the toss and snipe high templars cuz by that time the carriers have prob fully annihilated everything but thats why these trades are specifically hold short and never really within carriers domain. Just wanted to clarify the misconception here cuz carriers get alot slack. Got my point out i think, cheers!

@@Scartay2 But they did no damage because he went hydras. If he didn't go a ground army to kill interceptors, the carriers would have rekt. The carriers forced out the hydras because if you go anything else they fuck your day. They did nothing because lowko countered it. As pointed out, to beat skytoss you need 400 apm. To not lose with skytoss if your opponent has less than 400 apm, you need 50. It's imba not because you can't beat it, but because you can lose to someone who plays worse than you.

I was thinking EXACTLY of the same thing, like Reynor starts with another ZVP and saying straight away how toss is imba and completely ignoring the mistakes made by the zerg player during the game. He will start litterally going crazy by shouting and repeting IMBA IMBA IMBA and then 2 guys will show up (ideally 2 toss players) acting as medics and will take him to madhouse while he keeps shouting TOSS IMBA IMBA IMBA. Then one of the guy will call Harstem to tell him Reynor is no longer able to keep on with this and Harstem will finish the episode with "this is not imba u just suck!"

While the carriers weren't doing the majority of the damage, they still massively change the fight for one dumb reason - you can't tell your units to just ignore the interceptors (without doing individual target-fire and that doesn't work in this situation). So they end up just being a massive, regenerating damage shield for the entire protoss army. That's what bugs me the most about attacking into carriers - I feel like the challenge ends up being all about dealing with the unit's AI regarding interceptors.

Yeah, thats why Coruptors or Vipers is needed, no other way around this, when this Protos is soo good at setting choke points.

Agree about the vipers. Corrupters I'm concerned about storm - not sure how to target fire carriers without clumping up the corrupters.

Protoss built units that are good against ultras and hydras, the only thing Zerg had. Templars were not countered at all. No vipers, no static defense, no broodlords, no corruptors, and infestors that were only used for a spell to cut air damage in half, even though the damage came from ground units. Those are not minor mistakes. Lowko would have won easily if he'd just had some counters.

He should have neural the carriers tho, not used microbial shroud and fungal growth interceptors instead. and I suspect broodlord would have been better than corruptor in light of the immortals. still imba tho
