Ukrainians welcomed news that the U.S. House of Representatives had passed a long-delayed aid bill critical to Ukraine's defense against Russia’s ongoing invasion. Speaking to RFE/RL on April 21, many Kyiv residents said the $61 billion package could help slow advancing Russian forces.

They are, go look at the numbers. In their collective entirety, they don't have the US level of economic wealth. Many European nations have given much more than the US in terms of percentage of what they have, and their GDP...a few have given basically everything they have in whole sectors of their military capability. We have given less than 5%, and it sickens me, frankly. Go look at the numbers and you will see what I am telling you. There are bubble charts on the web that show the overall amounts, and relative amounts to GDP. By that metric we are near the bottom. Since we have to police the world, we obviously cannot give away a large part of our capability, but we could go a bit above 3-5%, depending on who you listen to, to take down our number two adversary for the next half to full decade.

You do realize we pay ourself for US weapons and ammo. My country Netherlands gave away f16s and bought F35s from the US. I'm gonna show you some shocking numbers. The US made 238 billion profit selling weapons and ammo to foreign nations in 2023 and the gave 44 billion to Ukraine in 2023. That's a profit of 194 billion. This bill is a loan of the US, so if Trump becomes president they would've to pay it back. The support of the US has been awful. They even have a gdp of 10 trillion more than the EU, so they should give almost double what the EU gives. Who's gonna pick up the loan when it's due? The EU. * I'm a 1000% a supporter of aid to Ukraine, but citizens in the EU need to know how awful US support is. Is it even support when you make money?

President Trump is NOT "pro-Moscow." He has denounced the invasion of Ukraine - even though the mainstream media failed to report on his denunciation. The invasion did NOT happen while he was President, because he had privately warned Putler off of any such effort. It was only when Pres. Biden displayed incredible weakness in the exit from Afghanistan that Putler thought that he could launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and get away with it. Also, Pres. Trump gave Speaker Johnson a green light to proceed with the Ukraine aid package. Even as MTG exploded in anger against Speaker Johnson, Pres. Trump expressed 100% support for the Speaker. You can tag MTG as "pro-Moscow," but not Pres. Trump. He has gotten wise to Putler over the last 2.2 years.

Europeans constantly complain about America, how we think the world revolves around us, how dumb we are as a people, and every other mindless stereotype that sounds like a broken record at this point. We do everything, we pay for everything. This is our tax money, it doesn’t just come out of thin air. Biden asked for Ukraine aid in SEPTEMBER! That would have been just before lend-lease expired. Also, we promised to protect Ukraine since the 1994 Budapest Memorandum. So, 30 years ago when we persuaded Ukraine to give up their nukes - nukes that would have prevented Russia from invading, we promised. Not just 2 years ago. Democrats have been begging to pass this aid for almost 7 months. We were so desperate, we were ready to pass an extreme strict border bill! Ukraine has vast popular support in the United States. We just had to get passed some obstructionist Republicans in Congress first. So sorry it took so long. Many of us have never let up on pressuring on our representatives. And finally, it's here! A $660 billion appropriation would bankrupt the US, which is already running ridiculous deficits as it is. $660 billion would represent $20,000 for every American man, woman and child. Not even a rabid supporter of Ukraine aid like me would advocate such a measure (which would amount to an outlay of $180,000 for my family). I pay a lot of taxes, but not that much. Also, it would not even be possible to spend that much money on the war effort in one year. The factories to build armaments at that level do not exist. Nor could we spend that much on Ukrainian military pay unless every Ukrainian man were inducted into the military and paid triple their current pay.
@tombeers3489

Russia's economy is smaller than that of California, New York....or... Texas. No need to spend that level to defeat them. NATO/U.S. weapons are much more accurate. The U.S. should be helping Ukraine build its own long-range drone with bigger warheads, then play dumb when Ukraine uses them in Russia proper.

The US has long claimed to be the guarantor of the free, democratic world. The US followed suit with russias invasion of Ukraine- at first providing generous support and guaranteeing that we would do more. Consistent with how we have always supported democracies. But then it got caught up in petty internal politics, largely held up by politicians who openly celebrate Russia and Putin- who are both brutally against American values and interests. Europe absolutely needs to massively step up its own efforts, if for no other reason than the US has shown itself to be increasingly unreliable. None of this changes the fact that Ukrainians were being slaughtered while we had the ability to help but didn’t. So yes. That is CATEGORICALLY disgusting, and wholly unacceptable. Whatever the politics are of who provides what, we said we would support them and weren’t. That is unacceptable.

Now that theoretical line gets pushed back further and further every day. And every day the hell at the front lines continues. That Russia fell into Ukrain was wrong but it's a FACT that Ukrain and the USA failed spectacularly at dealing with russia. You are not wrong for being for ukrain but nobody is being helped by prolonging this war, except Russia. These people are being sacrificed ONLY to save the interests of the 1%. *Don't get it wrong.* Also dealing with russia is not a game. Since you talk about history, how about you check up on the history of ww2? You know? Where they also lost a lot of people and still came up on top, while they were even worse equiped back then in comparrisson to now? Of course they throw all the s*** at you but obviously it works? Ethics aside. If you're not for peace then you're for death. If you were on the front lines then you would wish for peace the very second the first bullet comes flying. There was not one word of thanks in this video for all the money we US taxpayers have already given. This is a European matter but no Ukrainian ever says they expect money from European countries. Ukraine had years to develop a friendship with the US after Russia seized Crimea knowing that Russia would come for more but Ukraine chose to isolate itself from the US. But now Ukraine has an entitled attitude of expectance. Ukraine has made itself into a pitiful joke.

Being a Ukrainian respondent, I would probably spit on such help. The deal was clear: Ukrainian lives and territory - Western supplies - maintaining the war in Ukraine. The West just proves how unreliable and selfish a partner it is. Why does he promise aid when he delivers it so that Ukraine bleeds as much as possible? It's disgusting to watch us behave like this. So what do we want? Get rid of the threat of Russia or let it all fight among themselves? Let's just say it straight while we're at it.

The US like all other democratic countries need bi-partisan support in the government to pass bills for aid that goes to Ukraine or any other country that might need aid. As much as I can understand the urgency and frustration by those needing the aid, but just pinning the blame on the West is wrong, bunching countries as an - Us and Them - Just like Putin does, are words of division.
