That's exactly what happened to me. I was in market for new Hybrid Sienna, went to Toyota dealer and was told I had to put down $1000 to be on a waitlist. Additionally they told me I had to wait 9 month to a year before delivery and they will keep my $1000 hostage for this entire time. Also that i have to pay $2500 over MSRP because there is huge demand for Hybrid Sienna. I cancelled by plan, same night placed Tesla Model Y LR order online (without talking to any human) and got delivery in exactly 20 calendar days. Talking about EV, I just ordered an EQE. I am working on the switch to EVs. Now, if the MB brings the new plug-in-hybrid GLC to the US, I would get it instead. Rated at 62 miles battery only. Owners in Europe are getting above 70 miles. There are pros and cons in all cars. What’s important, you are happy with what you have. 😊Thanks again.

I agree Gjeebs, Tesla is the best option for a commuter car so that means it's only good for most people 95% of the time. If they're ok with taking a 15-20 break ever 200 miles it will work 100% of the time. I personally never minded stopping every 200 miles, stretch my legs, get some food and drink, watch some Netflix or KZbin on the cars screen while I charge. Most of the time when the car was ready I would charge a little extra to finish what I was watching. Stress free driving on autopilot and road trip life is good. Not a bit tired when you get to your destination since the car was doing most of the work for you.

My thoughts exactly on switching to an EV. Just make it part of your trip. Enjoy the stop and relax. I just thought about this. It is actually at most of the time ends up being back the timing of the trip when speed limits were at 55. A 600 mile trip took about 10.5 hours including stops going 60 MPH.

Test driven Model Y 2023 after driving GLC 300e 2021 for several years. It felt like a workout for my hands and the right foot honestly. Regenerative breaking caused car sickness in passengers more than usual car. When you are driving you don't get it but try sit on a back row as my friends did. Turning signal stick is confusing because it does not snap and the arrow indicator on the screen is tiny and imperceptible. Was missing the blind spot indicators in side mirrors. But this is all minor. The main issue I have with the Y is that the steering wheel is very stiff (yet on the softest mode) and same goes for the accelerator pedal. One pedal driving is good and all but my foot got quite tired after 15 min of playing with the pedal because it was bloody rigid.

One thing to note is by putting a most features on the touchscreen, your car can be updated with software. You can get improvements/new features years down the road, just not possible with analog controls. (Also less parts to break and cost less money to produce). The downside of course is sometimes you have to go through a few menus to get what you want.

2:16 thats a new feature. the first click almost resets the screen. then you cut, and the second click actually does the action. great work tesla!

It didn't reset the screen. The new update allows you to now move the vehicle image around while the car is in park. When you move the virtual vehicle image around, the buttons for Frunk," "Trunk," etc. disappear and come back after you stop moving the vehicle image.

I agree.. Tesla Model 3 and Y is the best bang for your buck .. I have both and l love it.. No pumping gas, no oil change, minimum maintenance. Top notch technology and best range in their class. Also free charging every night. ( I have free nights plan).

Good comparison. I favor the GLC. I drive a Tesla. I would prefer another brand tbh, but until other manufacturers can match Tesla's dependability and ease of use for EVs I will keep driving it. Would love to have an electric truck that doesn't cost a fortune though

I’ve had mine for a month now 4k miles later but I did get 2 annoying rattles I’m trying to get fixed one in the passenger visor and one in the passenger seatbelt on the pillar. The build quality on my 2022 is much better but it should be noted since it’s so silent it is exaggerated

thank you for your review. I don’t agree with most of this comparison. Why didn’t you compare a 2020 GLC to the 2020 Model Y. Driving and the feel in long drives, you feel uncomfortable and very bumpy in the Model Y. I’ve had my 2020 GLC for 3 years, 38,000 miles. Every thing inside still looks like new, it drives like new and feels like new. With Tesla’s price drops, value went down quite a bit. I have voice command for most the functions on my 2020, Apple and Android car play. You can get cooled seats on the GLC. Yes, Tesla has the power, over the air updates. I do also get over the air updates on my GLC. I have key issues getting in the car, I don’t have to open an App to open my doors. Road noise, bumpiness, phantom breaking are major negative things that drove me to the GLC. I had a 1999 ML320 for 18 years. Bought it new. No splits in the leather seats. Engine still ran like new, comfort and handling like new. Just my humble experience with MB. Thanks again.

The over the air updates on Tesla's are on another level. I bought a new 2015 MB C300 sport, which looks exactly like this w/ red ventilated seats but no carplay. Carplay came out a few months later on the 2016 model, and I was told I had to upgrade to the 2016 in order to get the new software, worst feeling in the world. Maintenance was expensive even with the 4 yr package I purchased. I'm sure the 2023 MB models are more modern, but besides minor maps and firmware updates, I doubt you will get any meaningful updates, IMO. After 6 yrs and 55k miles on the C300, I traded it in for a MYP and only wished I traded it in sooner.

Ironically, MB and Tesla have been partners from the get go with some of the behind the seen items. I like it when different companies work together on technology and designs. German and Japanese car have allllot of buttons! One of the reason that I prefer Volvo/polestar + Tesla is minimalistic design that they have! On the other hand, the big drawback with Tesla is its price reduction which is crazy for the current owners!

If your vehicle's performance has only improved with a software update, it means that the software was not optimally designed when it was originally released. This begs the question: If the software was not written properly, what other aspects of production could suffer from similar flaws?

Bought a GLS 450 for my wife. Not sure I would go with MB again. Maintenance is stupid expensive. And it always has some little issue landing it in the shop. Premium gas means $100 fill ups.

The charging stops on road trips help get you out of the seat and walking around for a few minutes. I bet there is a lower incidence of deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in Tesla drivers. I don' t know if that study has been done, but I bet it would have positive results. Nice review.

I would say Tesla is premium not Luxury. For instance, how would one compare the Model S to the new E Class? The E class has a feature that vibrates your seat along with the bass of your music as well as led lights to match. The Model S doesn’t have anything that’s comparative. Tesla is great at making certain software conscience features but it’s not luxury. A better comparison would be the new GLC

My 2020 has the bigger screen with the voice command as standard. For 2023, the GLC has been heavily redesigned as well. Full 12” scream in the center and 12” screen for the driver.

Nothing wrong with that. I know how much their service levels cost, and their oil changes went up in price..like everyone else's. If they have the spare several hundred to a thousand to spend one maintenance, and gas...more power to them.
