This was my first time driving a Porsche Taycan and it was amazing. The fit and finish is great but more importantly it drives great. it's fun seeing how different car manufactures are making electric cars and I am enjoying experiencing all of them.

A few things, with the larger battery and in launch mode, it is 571 HP. The real world range, with the larger battery, is closer to 280-300 miles. In the frunk, you can fit a small suitcase, that would fit in an overhead bin in an airplane. In the rear trunk, which is small, you can fit 2 regular size suitcases. The DC fast charging is only on the passenger side, the driver side is for slower level 2 charging. For the second gear, you need to be in sport plus mode to really feel it. Test drove the Y and an S but bought the Taycan premium with the extended battery. Also with a few other extra options. My overall 2 cents , it’s not as fast as an S Plaid but the handling is superior ! Also both Tesla & Porsche make great EVs and both will continue to motivate each other to perfection! 👍

I've gotten so use to the simplicity of my Model Y, I would freak out with all the extra things to press. But that infotainment screen behind the steering wheel looks amazing. I really like the seats as well. Great review!

BTW, the reason the Cannanball record was set in a Porsche was two fold. First, they wanted to do it in something other than a Tesla to prove that other EVs can travel distance. Second, the Porsche is capable of charging fast deeper into the pack than a Tesla which means they can charge fast, which is WAY more important than range on long distance driving. It's still crazy they were able to do it as the charging network is really bad. They worked with Electrify America and Porsche to make sure the chargers wouldn't mess up on them along the run. Your results will differ greatly if you tried to do the same thing and a Tesla would easily win a real-world test as the chargers are very flaky with EA right now.

Great video. I’ve driven a lot of Porsches and owned many German cars in 30+ years. Building this on the Porsche USA website is more than twice my 2021 Tesla M3 LR AWD + Performance Boost. Makes the Tesla seem like an absolute bargain for the same 0-60 and more range. No question the Porsche is sexier and a higher build quality.

I was a Tesla owner, now a Taycan TS owner, it’s nor comparable. Charges quicker than an Tesla, goes as far as they promise, built better, handles better and looks better. I know feel sorry for Tesla owners and what they think they have to put up with to drive an EV.

My wife drives a Model Y Performance and I drive a Taycan 4S. They both are great cars. What Porsche may lack in tech interface and charging infrastructure is more than made up with the driving dynamics and solid build. I like that my Taycans 4 screens have consistent graphics (my previous Panamera seemed like it had a different designer for each screen) new software update is a big improvement. The Tesla is our long trip car since EA stations are simply not everywhere. If Tesla offer say an AMG or M Sport package with nicer interior materials even for $15 k more it would have been a tougher decision but I prefer the Taycan because it’s a true Porsche. I also have grown to like Porsche’s use of the brake pedal for most regeneration braking. I’ll bet that most people don’t realize how little the friction brakes are used in daily driving. The Tesla approach of one pedal driving is fine but the Porsche approach stays true to the Porsche driving experience.

Charging; the drivers side is for home charging, the passenger side has the CCS adaptor for fast charging.

People who complain about the aggressiveness of Tesla's regenerative braking really don't seem to understand that smooth one-pedal driving requires nothing more than learning to modulate the accelerator pedal by backing off it slowly when you want to slow down a bit. It's really no different from having to modulate a brake pedal to control the amount of braking you want, except that you can do it all with one pedal instead of having to get off one pedal and on to another. I simply don't understand the big deal people make of this. When I got my first Tesla in 2015, it took me all of 15 minutes to get used to one-pedal driving, and now the biggest annoyance I find when I drive one of my ICE vehicles is how often I have to get on the brake pedal when driving in town. I would never buy another EV without one-pedal driving. And the more the regenerative braking the better. It simply means having to ease up on the accelerator a bit less.

The Porker is hammered together very nicely indeed and the styling is very reassuringly traditional Porch. Sadly, it’s more expensive, slower and has less range than the market leaders. Even so, I’m delighted that they built this because traditionalists who would never buy a Tesla, might just buy this. Every electric car on the road is a win.

True, it is considerably more expensive than other EV options, but the real world range is almost equal to most Teslas around 300 miles. It’s weight is about the same as Model S, if not a few hundred pounds lighter. And as for slower? The Taycan Turbo S is faster than every other Tesla other than the Plaid, leaving it the second fastest on the market for production vehicles. The 4S is not meant to compete with the fastest car. As you mentioned tho and I agree, more EV options is better all around!

For accurate range in Tesla use the onboard energy app not the charge percentage shown .. it’s very accurate and it will put many at ease who think they’ve lost range according to charge percentage/miles being displayed.

5:51 Range Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Tesla's quoted EPA range estimates are for highway/city COMBINED. (which thanks to regenerative braking, is higher than just highway only estimates) Really wish Tesla would also provide accurate individual highway, and city EPA range.

I expect that my on-order Lyriq will have the road handling of my first car, a Porsche; the roominess of my subsequent family cars, Audi’s; and the luxury of my current Continental. Then there is the noise cancellation with two speakers in the head rest, and the room to carry three friends and their clubs. What I like most is the SuperCruise and the many touch differentiable controls! I would look forward to your review of the Cadillac Lyriq.

What a relief Porsche is not Tesla. In Australia, the Taycan 4S is three times the price of the similarly performing Model 3 LR Dual Motor and the faster Taycan Turbo is more than three times the price of the Model 4 Performance. Only the Taycan Turbo S can accelerate faster than any Model 3 but it over four times the price of the Model 3 performance. The quality of the Tesla is good enough, especially those made in China. But people are used to getting ripped off when buying Porsches, indeed it's a status symbol to show that you have more dollars than sense.

The Taycan is far superior to the Tesla in terms of dynamics, fit and finish, and styling. Here in California, the Tesla is as common as a Toyota Camry.

I have the 22' model S. I looked at the taycan. A Taycan with comparable specs is a very difficult pill to swallow for nearly twice the cost. Sure, it looks better and has better fit/finish but at $160k...it's stupidity.

Unless you were an owner/daily-driver you wouldn't experience the glitches in the software. With 2 drivers the car is supposed to recognize your key/.phone combo and automatically reset seats, entertainment, climate etc. for your preferences. It works about half the time. You gave the rear trunk a mediocre score but did you know the rear seats fold forward? Lots of space for your Costco runs and golf clubs. To open the frunk, hand gesture works about 20% of the time. Foot swipe to open the rear is 50/50. Otherwise, I agree with your assessments. I'd buy it again even with the bugs (which I hope Porsche will figure out in time).

I love the tesla regen braking, never need to use your brakes! It doesn't jerk either, use your pedal like a tap and it works great!

The small turn radius was most likely due to your tester having rear wheel steering. When reviewing a Porsche product it's helpful to review the build sheet so the listener knows exactly how your test sample was optioned. Porsches are highly configurable which can have a big impact on driving dynamics. Taycan's can charge quickly thx to their unique 800 volt system, biggest weakness is Electrify America. Their chargers are poorly maintained & the software glitchy.

I put a deposit on a 4S a few months ago and then found out about the 12V battery drain issue that had Porsche stumped, the dealer knew nothing about it and put the blame on owners. I canceled and now have a deposit on a refreshed Model S.

I know about 15 Taycan owners and nobody has ever heard about problem with 12V battery. This is the first time I hear of it.

@@Kpizzo Don't know about that, at the time Porsche was stumped and was not being honest with consumers about the issue. Love the Model S, no issues, everything just works, Supercharger network is awesome. And saving over $55,000 didn't hurt either. Zero regrets.

Wish you talked more about rental program... Price, specific name, etc. Dude, that car is 150-250k. That's NOT 100k DC fast charging is on 1 side. Charge port location sucks. Glad Tesla has only 1 as I wouldn't want to pay for 2, and I like it at the driver's side rear. Had a Bolt and that locations SUCKS

It was also news to me that they offer rentals. I checked it out and it's $335/day with discounts for 4+ days where I am. They didn't mention specific trim levels in the app and the app is poorly enough done that despite the Taycan being an option, I couldn't find a day it was available and it takes a lot of work to switch dates.

My 2015 model S has the air suspension which will raise the car at any preset gps location to avoid curbs, speed bumps or road irregularities. Tesla has had this feature since their first air suspension model S. Nice Porsche picked up on that.

The model s has the lowest drag co-efficient so not going to be major redesigns in something that’s already the best in existence. And it’s still sexy as f’ and certainly more so than any 4 door sedan. You want sports car looks then that will be the roadster. The porsche never really took over and now is already made obsolete. They best get back to the drawing board.

Why does one buy a Porsche?... To have one of the fastest street cars that doesn't cost a half million to get super performance! Considering that you drive a Tesla, your comments about regenerative braking are disappointingly uninformed. Tesla in fact can be set to behave like traditional ICE cars with automatic transmissions. However, Tesla's one pedal driving implementation is just perfect and there is "no way back", once one spends a couple of days driving it. Taycan break pedal activation of the regenerative braking is clunky, funky, and definitely the wrong approach.

New Tesla’s cannot be set to perform like ice cars anymore. Mine can because it’s a 2020 but the new ones cannot be changed. The Taycan worked perfectly but I’m not sure that it generates as much power back into the battery

@@Gjeebs You are correct. I have both my P90D and my new Plaid on my driveway. I checked and I am surprised and question why the flexibility was cut. However, I absolutely love exactly how the pedals control the motion - "one pedal driving". The one thing I miss is the energy display.

I'm waiting for demand for fossil fuel to go down which will increase supply bring prices down then maybe white California will come to its senses a know it has no jurisdiction over people's lives.
