There is no comparison between Daenerys and Rhaenyra! Dany grew up with nothing and saw for herself how cruel the world can be. With that, she used the power she got to protect (eff you, D&D) the powerless. Rhaenyra grew up with everything, her parents worshipped the ground she walked on. She was King Viserys’ only child for a long time, learning by his side and was his chosen heir.

Exactly! The ending we got was nonsense, and I say this as someone who had been expecting and looking forward to an Evil Dany arc since the early seasons. Rhaenrya is not like daenerys , and I don't like the comparison to cersei as well , rhaenrya had bastards sons because she needed heirs and her husband was incapable to give her , and cersei is cruel just for the sake of it and not to mention a terrible ruler , while rhaenrya became ruthless thanks to all the looses she suffered.

Tbf Cersei became cruel and ruthless partly due to her own losses as well. Robert never loved her, he cheated on her, hit her, humiliated her and she lost their first child together. I think everyone is making valid points about Cersei here; yeah she did kill her friend at age 11 and she is pretty fucked in the head. But bad parenting was a part of that, and Robert was abusive. On their wedding night, he called he Lyanna. So that was fucked too. I think she did love her children but in a flawed, selfish way. Lots of parents do that.

exactly, yes, and even right after the HBO ending people looked at Rhaenyra and worried that she was meant as a Dany parallel, and that George planned on murdering Dany too. @@DavidLightbringer I think the Cersei parallel is very interesting. @jeeshadow12 жыл бұрын
Its also interesting because the disinheritance of Rhaenys was an act of Targaryen exceptionalism as well, as Andal law clearly put her above Viserys. They just made an even more male favored succession exception for the Iron Throne. Not sure what Andal law says about Rhaenyra's case, honestly it might have been in favor of Aegon II? But then Rhaenyra's kids would have inherited before Aegon's. Honestly Viserys just kept making bad succession decisions that continually put his chosen heir in a bad political position and handed her a fairly weak hand to deal with.

@apacalypsagon37582 жыл бұрын
@@DavidLightbringer it's not an analysis it's a statement. I'm reminiscent of that one lady who swindled arya out of a horse for less than what it's actually worth or how the shepherd managed to lead a riot down in the dragonpit of all places. The way you make it sound is how the lord's should have this sense of benevolent altruistic mind set. When in all due likelihood that's just not natural. The lord's can be held accountable for what happened in the dance if the dragons but its not like they were actively out to get them. Its just indifference something everybody's guilty of. And I'm sure there's examples of the common folk en mass taking their fears and insecurities onto everywhere else just like how lord's will feel and will be disenfranchised lf they don't do anything. Dany is simply the exception and not the rule.
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
the point is you can't judge "the common folk" en masse, like they're either virtuous and worth saving or evil and not worth saving. The high lords have a responsibility towards them, simple as that. The behavior of any individual "common folk" doesn't affect that one bit.
@apacalypsagon37582 жыл бұрын
@@DavidLightbringer I'm not taking it to an extreme of are they or are they not worth saving. I'm saying you shouldn't exempt them from scrutiny just by sheer virtue of being less than lord's. If the rolls were reversed you'd probably get more or less the same results. Not out of malice but simply because you have no legit reason to care of what goes outside of you or your own. Which applies to both the commonfolk and the lord's. If the lord's we're that incompetent you'd think the common folk would grow a spine and run the local lord out of town. But they willingly choose to live the way they do because they know their lord's best interests align with their's.

I think it's a bit too simplified to say "Dany came up from nothing". I think lots of people would like to have a claim to a giant kingdom. It'd be more correct to say "Dany lived through poverty" (and abuse, and more), even if even then millions of people in the world of westeros had it much worse than her still. Dany did live a much better life than most people still.
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
No way. She was an orphan with no parents and only an abusive brother. Then sold into marital slavery at 13? That’s WORSE than nothing and definitely not “much better than many people alive at that time.” She came from less than nothing and that claim didn’t get her anything.
@sinthoras19172 жыл бұрын
@@DavidLightbringer Did she have to live in poverty to the degree the serfs of the westerlands or slaves of slavers bay have to? Her claim ensured her a life way more comfortable than them, at least until she was married. Also, do you think it is uncommon in planetos to be sold into marital slavery at 13? How many people in GRRMs world are orphans, abused, enslaved, married at 13? I think it is very clearly the case that vast swaths of the population of planetos, arguably the majority (especially women), have it even worse than her, which is how I would define "nothing" in planetos, as the worst lot you can have.

Thank you for this vid. Before s8 I was more hyped for DoD or HoTD over any other story and ofc I was all for Rhaenyra's side because at the end of the day her father never said she wasn't his heir (correct me if I'm wrong lol). Leading up to s8 and after I am still on the same side but I am still pissed with what happened to Dany and how they basically gave her a similar ending to Rhaenyra. Both woman (rightful heirs imo) were made to go batshit crazy and killed by a male in their family/claimant and it is sickening. So the comparison is only really on that regard for me where it feels like they gave Dany plots of Rhaenyra/faegon/JonCon etc etc. Its such a bad taste lingering where I don't want to see another woman get pushed and pushed until finally the plot demands her to fall under "bitches be crazy" and then killed so horrendously after how fucked up they did my boo Dany.
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
I totally get that. Especially since they are SUCH different characters. Part of the reason why I made this video… the only thing that will make the Dany thing better is George finishing the books. That’s it. The TV can’t fix what they did to Dany.

@@DavidLightbringer omg you responded to me lol but seriously that's why I love the vid because they are absolutely totally different characters and Dany will always be THE best thing from the Targs and her story is far from over and I trust GRRM is going to take her to amazing heights. @darthnox49142 жыл бұрын
Thanks for emphasising how different Rhaenyra is compared to Dany. Since the trailer is released people begin to relate her character to Dany, which is wrong and would make people expect something the character is not. GoT’s finale did not only leave a bad taste of the show, it also left a bad taste of Dany’s character. No one could get the ending that they hoped for her, on the contrary her precious character arc is ruined which was quintessential for the series. Seeing young Rhaenyra reasonably leads people to hope for a “redemption story” for the injustice that the show-runners did to Dany’s character. Rhaenyra is as you suggested earlier, “more like Cersei” than Dany. Rhaenyra’s character is not supposed to be as beautiful as Dany and she neither is an “activist”. Dany is one of the best things from GoT, what made the show so memorable. I hope that HoD’s show-runners realised her character’s importance for the fandom and the chemistry of their show’s predecessor series, so that they will fill the lack of Dany by creating an another character echoing her and not by using Rhaenyra.
@BillyBasd2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, even if they changed Rhaenrya making all of her bad actions(bastard kids setting up war, calling for her allied dragon riders heads, etc) misrecorded she still gets a bad ending.
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they’d have to change her ending too, if they made her all sweet and good. The ones to keep an eye on are Baela and Laena. Nettles is also good (she’s horrified by the one battle she was in). It looks like they have aged up Baela and are bringing her in earlier, so I think they want to give the audience some better characters at the outset
@darthnox49142 жыл бұрын
@@DavidLightbringer Well, I definitely agree with you! Additionally, I do have a prediction regarding to Daemon Targaryen’s possible portrayal in HoD series; I do believe that he will be somewhat similar to Jaime Lannister as in personality. I know that in Fire and Blood he is illustrated totally different compare to Jaime, considering Jaime improved his personality throughout to series. Still, hear me out! Show-runners must make some necessary arrangements in the story to make it more interesting, their source material is different from what GoT had; they only work with an overall background knowledge of the period from different third persona perspectives, some quotes, memorable dialogues and iconic events yet it is still nothing compare to all 5 books GoT adapted to the screen. Show-runners must pay attention on their characters, since they are so blank and incomplete compared to detailed characters from GoT’s unique protagonists. Intertextuality can be the methodology of the show-runners to connect their new characters to the ones we already familiar with. Daemon does have a lot of similarities with Jaime. Handsome yet mean, king’s guard, not loved but feared, warrior instincts, incest relationship. Considering Rhaenyra’s similarity to Cersei, as a couple Rhaenyra and Daemon might be portrayed as an echo of Jaime and Cersei. We might even see Daemon as more of a relatable and sympathetic person compared to cruel and fearless character we had in the book. If not, it would be a waste of so much potential. Jaime’s ending in the GoT also left a bad taste in our mouths, so Daemon can fix it if used wisely.

the actress who was cast to play rhaenyra is very beautiful, she is very different from the books

I might have commented this on one of your videos already, but I always wondered if HBO went ahead with HotD specifically because of Rhaenyra, you know? To induce the idea that Dany's ending was justified because of Rhaenyra? Or at least to create in the audience's mind a clear link in terms of cruelty and entitlement? And retroactively justifying her ending? Idk, I just don't understand why they went with this story, personally would have loved Aegon's conquest.

Despite what people may think I still don’t think she was wrong for burning up kings landing 🤷🏽♀️
@DavidLightbringer Жыл бұрын
of course she was there were thousands of innocent people down there and her own troops engaged all over the city it was entirely senseless, but if you if you take it at face value, no of course it’s not justified you’d have to be a psychopathic mass murder to actually think so. which is why Dany would never do that
@DaenerysHeiress Жыл бұрын
@@DavidLightbringer The innocent people in the show had a chance to leave actually Several Chances. Her Troops were engaged correct which is why she burned away from them. Lol looking at the wide shot she didn’t kill her own. And its a war lol Tywin did it. And Aegon wouldve done it too had certain people not knelt. Not saying its right but I definitely understand its a war. Like Olenna Tyrell said its war 1000 of people will die either way better the opposition then my side. Don’t get me wrong the ending of the show was ridiculous and out of character but I’m just saying in a real life war no1 is showing all the restraint that Queen Dany did.

I’m on the black side , because viserys named rhaenrya his heir , as king his word is what matters , I also feel for rhaenrya cause yes viserys wanted her to be his heir , he never supported her infront of the other lords , which is why nobody supported her , almost everybody in the show plotted against her directly and even indirectly, her own friend was caught up in the plots , I also feel sorry for rhaenrya cause she has no real support , her husband always has his own agendas , her first husband couldn’t even do her the favor of giving her a child , which would’ve helped her , I am mad at rhaenrya cause she could’ve done more , listened more , been more cautious, instead she isolated herself because she felt it was her right to be queen, and thought ppl would be respect her fathers decision

Banger video as always, Rhaenyra is definitely more concerned with the game of thrones than Daenerys and their life experiences are so different, but wait a minute. What the hell do crows sound like in America? I've only grown up with Aussie crow noises, I never realised they were different!

Lmaooo I felt personally called out in this video! You are absolutely right of course, Rhae is nothing at ALL like Dany, part of my excitement/interest in HOTD is this cast of totally morally grey, corruptible characters. I'm super hopeful that while they will be written with some sympathy they won't be sanitised for the sake of giving us a "right side" and a "wrong side" (I'm still in mourning for show Tyrion)
@WatashiMachineFullCycle2 жыл бұрын
Side note, I think the Broken Men speech might be my absolute favourite passage in the series. It's definitely up there.

The books pay lip service to the idea that rulers callowly disregarding their people is bad. But, at the same time, I can't help but think that if that was _really_ an important theme to George, he might express that by having like... maybe _one single smallfolk person_ as a POV character?
@DavidLightbringer2 жыл бұрын
Dunk, Davos, Arya essentially becomes a smallfolk for several books, and Melisandre is a slave of the Red Temple. Still, I think there was room for more smallfolk POVs. But I think this is a more subtle layer to the writing; he's kind of tempting us into taking the perspective of the high lords while telling us about all the fallout of their actions and wanting us to see through the high lord bias.
@mollytaylor21222 жыл бұрын
_Kinda sorta_ smallfolk, but not _really._ I've long thought if there was just one POV of a displaced Riverland family or something, the *whole* series would hit *very* different.

Just found your site; wish I had known about it earlier. Many thanks for your homage to MY favorite also, Daenerys, Khaleesi. GOT ending did her wrong. I now won’t allow my early positive reaction to Rhaenrys to run amuck, as I was seeing similarities to Dany. I haven’t read any of the GRRM books, so I don’t know what they say about the characters in House of the Dragon.

I’m going to be both hard on the character but also looking for the sympathetic angle. I’ll try to be balanced and not too opinionated… ultimately this is a show about a bunch of schemers trying to out-scheme each other. It’ll be wildly entertaining but without a lot of heroes.

Thank you for this video!) I was always a Dany's fan and I was fkng furious with season 8 since the first MINUTES... From the moment I saw Dany and Jon arriving at Winterfell I told my friend (with whom I was watching the show) that something was wrong with... everything and everyone.... Everybody just got sooooo stupid and did not AT ALL followed their previous logic, knowledge, experience, etc... I suspected it in season 7, but I felt in the very beginning of season 8... Even though I didn't read the books, I remembered Dany's path so clear which was truly HER'S up until season 7... So you can imagine my reaction when I saw the very last episode... I'm glad that you pointed out Dany's real goals and her real character!))
