I drove the same car on Sunday. I have to say, it felt VERY premium. Ride quality was so nice. No bouncing, no harsh rebound, and very quiet. Took it on the road, to get a better feel of it. The self parking we tried was a first for me, and it was so weird having the car park so well by it self.

BYD is going to have some serious competition with the G6 as the Atto 3 is the only car similar for segment, but worlds apart in almost every other way. Also, that orange is so nice in person.

Pronunciation of a foreign brand is always going to be a challenge. If any company rep pronounced it 100% like a native, many people outside the country probably wouldn’t recognise it. I’d say the salesperson can say it natively, but they have been trained that when speaking to the outside public to say it in a certain way as to not cause confusion. I’d say even the most avid EV nut would not recognise the brand if I said Xiao-Peng, ji-ke (zeekr), but maybe they might recognise bi-ya-Di. There are plenty of videos about how Japanese auto brands and other brands are pronounced natively, quite interesting when you hear the native pronunciation.

Traffic flow through the city is horrendous. The confusion with people not knowing how to do those turns, just adds to the chaos. The amount of major roadworks because of new rail links has made it so much worse, because of removing the second lane. I definitely wouldn’t want to be an Uber driver there. Great review of this car Tom and Riz. Hopefully I’ll get to see it in Sydney in November. It’ll be interesting to see how it charges on the different charge stations we have.

Howd the U-turn feel Tom? Thats one bad thing about the Tesla with the 12metre turning circle. It caught me by surprise with a test drive. I was in quite a few ubers last week in Melbourne and traffic flow through the city was terrible. I think the confusion with hook turns just ads to the mayhem. Car seems nice but i agree, you need to test it on a more open road to get the proper feel. Did he mention off camera anything about pet mode, camp mode, V2H, is it wireless AC/AA? What happens if you use the wrong stalk because driver is used to stalks being opposite programmed? Sad to see they did the same stupid mistake Tesla did with Model Y - with Rear View mirror placed way too low down, so that it sits almost right in the middle of the windshield. These car makers seem to forget that there is actually a very good reason why we have glass windshields in cars. That is so that we can see where are we going and what is in front of us. So nothing is supposed to block that view. With this kind of rear view placement - you can not see anything to your left and up. Think of making left turn into a lane, or driveway or some ramp that goes up. Interestingly, Tesla improved in this aspect with new Model 3 by a lot - they raised rear mirror view UP by a LOT. Sad to see other car makers making same stupid mistake with their new cars.

One thing I'm immensely saddend by is that cars like the Xpeng G6, Zeekr X, Geely E5, whatever is coming, compared to the Seal, the hardware (and accompany software) just beats it. I love the Seal, but no matter how much i want to appreciate it i know that the Snapdragon 665 will forever be a black stain on it. No smooth interactions, smart features you see in China, hell even the screen quality seems like they were saving money (at least to something like Zeekr). You buy a brand new car in 2024 and you get given a 5 year old mid range mobile processor vs a dedicated automotive platform one competitors use like the Snapdragon 855A (8155) that even GPU operations/s wise can perform 4x better. Same CPU wise. People hope for features to be introduced and it's not that the software couldn't be made, it's just the car will never run it. Di-Link 5 will never come to our processors either.

Yeah I know Geely seems to have a few brands under their belt... As for the trade off, they seem to have rectified it with their recent models. Looks exactly the same as every other SUV sized EV these days. They're all copying Tesla and if its priced similar to a Model Y then I can't see the appeal.
