As a believer, I applaud Rhett for questioning his faith. I think any truth that doesn't stand up to scrutiny, isn't truth. Of course I believe there is a God and my beliefs line up closest with Christianity, but I have doubts, and I chase them rather than run from them. If I'm wrong, I want to know. While I pray Rhett finds his way back to God (or maybe for the first time since it sounds like maybe he was more deep into religion), I pray more simply that Rhett will continue to be blessed in his public and personal life. Never stop questioning.

Not sure if I'm understanding your comment, but the first conversation of deconstruction on EarBiscuits was Jan of 2020. Actually 4 episodes-Our Lost Years & Our Years as Missionaries led up to thee deconstruction episodes. They each had thier own deconstruction episode. There's also an episode-Our Other Best Friend. Kind of a tie in with those episodes. They had 1 year later episodes Jan 2021 discussing what happened in the following year after those episodes, again, each with thier own episode. And 2 years later was Feb 2022.

This was an incredibly interesting episode, thank you both for being so vulnerable. I recently returned to Christianity after losing my faith some years ago for similar intellectual reasons as Rhett. What I think is interesting and also quite sad is that throughout my spiritual journey thus far, I’ve come to the conclusion that Jesus’s teachings were never meant to be religious in the way we understand them now. For one, his intention was to free other Jewish people from the dogmatic religious thinking of that time and to liberate people from the oppressive colonial structure that was the Roman empire at the time. Ironically, Evangelical Americans are now repeating the same patterns that Jesus meant to free us from. I think we need to stop boxing Christ into such a worldly, hierarchical structure like the church has become today and build a personal, intimate spiritual relationship with God that is founded in love and is honestly no one’s business unless we choose to share it with others like you have both so graciously shared your journeys with us. Just a thought ❤️

@CaptainJ622 жыл бұрын
@@xorret1 All due respect, I don’t believe that’s what’s being gone for here. If anything, it’s more that the church has, to a certain degree, lost sight of what’s actually important, that being, a personal and intimate relationship with God. Don’t get me wrong, the church still does plenty of good, but some of us Christians have seen that there’s more to it. I would say it’s more like how scientific facts change regularly based on new discoveries, in this case personal and spiritual discoveries. Regardless, God bless you, my friend.

I've been an atheist my entire adult life. Right after "confirmation" I was to decide if I wanted to continue & I declined. I liked that it was my decision to make, and being such a science nerd I couldn't consolidate the two. I don't have anything against people who are religious at all, I have friends of several different faiths. I don't say anything to them about & they keep their faith to themselves. I think people are too quick to point out differences these days just to fight. Religion & politics are the first things people want to talk about. I appreciate their fervor but it's not a nice thing to talk about. Let's find out similarities first.

This popped in my head while watching. What if god is like the force? There is a belief out there that we all return to one source. What if all religions are a mix of the correct information with human error? Some people believe that we are reincarnated, some people call the afterlife home, some religions have no hell. What if our energy only goes home once it has reached balance and if you die unbalanced your energy becomes the forces of nature until they reach balance. If your evil your whole life you die and your energy becomes a destructive storm that harms or even has a few fatalities, but the storm knocked over dead trees, washed away population and more good that a biologist could go kn and on about then after the storm the energy returns home. A good person that only does good without harming themselves or otheres dies and their energy goes into that exact same storm. This could be the case for all livimg things. I am you, you are me, we are the birds that sing and the fish that swim. But what about the flesh and bones? That is part of a cycle that returns to energy just much slower. That's just what popped in my head

I grew up Christian when my dad got saved when I was 7. He became a worship leader and I grew up going to church, believing and having different experiences with God. The problem is, “the pure in heart shall see God” when I was young my relationship with God was more easily accessible and stronger because it came natural as I was innocent. When I got into high school I went the complete other way. I never lost my faith but lost my relationship to porn addiction and social status, and all pursuits of myself. It wasn’t until I had a moment of seeing God in another man’s life and the Holy Spirit in Him reminded me of what life was and why I was truly here. I surrendered my life to Jesus fully knowing that it would cost me friendships, dignity, and possibly the career I wanted & at the moment the Holy Spirit fell on me deeply and the weight and darkness I felt immediately left and a feeling of being totally cleansed by Jesus flooded my being . I sought him in the darkness of my trim, surrendering all and he saved me then. That’s when I gave my life to Jesus in 2015 and my life has never been the same. Jesus is King. It’s not about feelings, it’s about truth, Jesus is the truth. Seek Him not to prove him, seek Him not to gain what you want, seek Him not to demand answers for the problems in your life, seek Him to know your father and receive his Love for you. Surrender to Him in humility and he will fill you and never leave you
