The "Disney Scoop" (as it's officially called) is designed to relieve stress on the body. It's part of Disney's "Safety in Motion" policy that helps prevent Cast Members from getting injured. If they come up alongside the trash, bend one knee, scoop the trash, then get up and keep walking in one fluid motion, it's supposed to be easier on the body than bending at the waist (especially if this is a repeated action like for the Custodial Cast Members).

I went to Disneyworld this year nd we went to ride the teacup ride and it was closed and when we asked when it would open up again the cast member told us they ran out of tea and they didn't know when they were getting more. I laughed so hard when we walked away.

Of course the tea cups would only stop to get more tea, durr! ;P Like Link was saying, there is a thoroughness, a thoughtfulness and commitment that makes Disney the best.

When we were there several years ago, my daughter was in a bad mood because her favorite princess (Sleeping Beauty) wasn't in the park that day, so when were eating, we met Mulan (at our breakfast meal), and she told my daughter (maintaining her character) that she needed to respect her parents. Later that day, we ran into her, and she remembered us, and told my daughter that she had been watching her, and asked my daughter if she had been respectful to us since she had met us at breakfast. Needless to say, my daughter was the perfect angel for the rest of our vacation.

I've had the IDK hurled at me and it is dismissive and rude. Pointing was another. It is rude in certain cultures and an open hand is polite.

I used to work as an artist at Disney World. I can tell you that while these rules might seem a bit silly, they are actually quite effective. Disney wants to create the illusion that once you enter those gates that you have entered a truly magical world. This means that the actors and staff are all a fantasy, a Disney fantasy. It's not that you cannot grow a beard, or have shaved eyebrows. Disney promotes self-expression. Disney only cares when you alter your image within an undesired frame of time. This means if you have long hair, you shouldn't then come to work with short hair. If you have blue hair, you shouldn't come back with red hair the next morning. At Disney you will be playing the role of yourself, and you have to maintain that image of yourself. If you wear your hair down, try to always wear your hair down. If you wear glasses(like me), try to always wear your glasses. While you're away or sometimes even over the weekend you may be allowed to change your look, so long as your superior approves. These rules are great, and they are necessary towards imposing a higher standard at the Disney parks. They are successful for a reason. I've also heard it joked "the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules". A dumb joke referenced from Pirates of the Caribbean.

I use to work at an amusement park called Kings Island and most of the rules are pretty much the same. We weren't allowed to point and we weren't allowed to say "I don't know." We would have to say something like, "I'm not sure, may I ask a supervisor for you Ma'am/Sir?"

So I work at Disney World, and I can confirm these! A few clarifications and well as additional things though! Some more interesting things about the characters. If you ask a Cast Member about a character and try to act like they are not real, the CM will not go along with it. CMs are instructed to also speak as if the characters running around the parks are real, even to adults. So if Rhett were to come up and say "So how much training do the Snow White actresses have to go through to get the right signature?" we would say "What do you mean? There aren't any actresses. There is just Snow White and that is her signature." no matter how insistent the guest is, we can never say they are people playing the character. Ever. Also, when discussing people that play the characters to other CMs or outside of work, we refer to the actors and actresses as "friends of" that character. So for example, if I had a friend that played Donald, we would say that she is "friends with Donald," that way if there are any prying little ears listening to you, you don't give away that it is an actress. Lastly with characters, if the character is in full costume (called a fur character, rather than a face character like Snow White), and they are short, they are almost always a girl, even if they character is male, and if the character is tall, it is almost always a guy, even if the character is female. So that means when you see Mickey and Minnie being cute and flirty with each other it is almost always two girls. Then, in talking about the "swooping" motion to pick up trash, there is actually a name for that. It is called the "Disney Scoop," and it is more for making sure you don't hurt your back than it is about not showing off your butt. We are constantly bending down to pick stuff up, so to avoid constantly bending in a weak area of the body, we are told to stoop down to one knee, swoop up the item, then get back up. In regards to code V, we also have code U for pee, and code H for doodoo butter. There are a slew of other codes as well, but those are the most common. And yes, they are quite common. I can definitely confirm the beard thing. Disney is -very- strict on what types of facial hair you can have, and you either have to have it already, or be clean shaven. You can't grow a beard while you are working. Fully grown, well trimmed and clean facial hair within the Disney Look guidelines, or completely clean shaven. There is no in-between.

Depends on the cast member. I'm the cast member who plays night janitor (3rd shift custodial) and we hose the bathrooms down every night. Poop incidents are called code H (for human or horse) and we use objects known as pickers for trash instead of using a "sweeping motion"

I worked at the Disney store for a while, I was only allowed to wear one pair of plain-looking stud earrings (but I had eight ear piercings total) and my hair had to be in just a plain ponytail, we were allowed French manicures (not acrylics), clear, or red if it was not chipped, makeup had to be natural, no visible tattoos, we had to wear all-black shoes, call the girls "princess" and the boys "sheriff," and it wasn't enforced all the time, but we did wish people a magical day. And if you're thinking of working at a Disney store, just be sure you know what you're getting into, especially around Christmas, you're going to hear the same like ten songs on repeat and remember it's a retail store, not Wonderland. I thought it'd be an easy job, I knew the trivia and whatnot, but I realized I am not a salesperson--I liked being backstage with all the unopened merchandise taking stock. Sorry I wrote so much, just wanted to be helpful :)

I'm an ex Disney cast-member so it goes like this: Yes every worker is a cast-member, I actually was a "janitor" in Hollywood Studios so I was a custodial cast-member. The point is we are all one big cast keeping the show, aka the work day, running smoothly. The two finger point is because Walt was a smoker mainly, people say because its disrespectful to point with one finger, but its mainly because Walt smoked a lot and pointed with his cigarette in his hand. If you are a cast-member playing a character, your either a face character or "Friends with insert character here" Face is like princess or prince or someone without a giant suit, Friends with means you are a character in a suit. You need to learn their mannerism, their exact signature, and if your a face character you might need to play around with your actual voice, going higher or lower to match the character better. Swooping up trash is a thing, because it means you keep moving, keeping the park clean as you continue doing your actual job. Face characters or friends with characters won't swoop just normal cast members. Custodial cast-members have pans and brooms all the time so we sleep. Code V is very real, on the tower of terror ten miler we had hundreds of Code V's... You can't say you don't know unless your earning their ears, which is like starting your job learning your role and the park. Your supposed to direct someone if you don't know, very simple. Shaving your eyebrows is a thing, but I never learned why. You needed to also be cleaned shaven or fully facial-haired, scruff means your getting written up...So many write ups...You can grow it in your time off, but it has to be maintained and well groomed by the time you hit the stage, aka the public parts of the park. There you go!

Cast Member - because you are on "stage" when you are with guests. We try to make your experience perfect. As a cast member you are part of the show or illusion and being called that helps to reinforce the importance of this. It is offensive to point in many cultures, so we offer directions with a full hand or dual fingers to prevent this. I have never heard of the swooping trash rule worked in Disney Holly Wood Studios for 5 years. Not sure when you go this one. Code V - Voban the chemical substance we to bring to apply to the vomit, it absorbs the liquid mass and the smell almost instantly. There are many rules on grooming. Supposedly in the spirit of keeping the wholesome experience, WALT never wanted Disney to look like a bunch of carnival workers which had a reputation of being unsavory characters. Hope this helps.

Hi guys greeting from Florida, I'm also a Cast Member and these rules even though they sound silly, they have are very effective at their job. 1. We are all cast members; simply because we are all playing a roll in a big play. We are the actors or Cast Member of said play, so we are to follow the guidelines on good appearance because we are ON stage. 2. that rule of bending down, your not supposed to bend your back, your supposed to bend your knees, Disney takes real good care of us. we are not allowed to enter our "Red Zone" which is when the pressure of carrying something reaches our back there are ways to avoid this; google it. (I recommend Rhett to do it since he has back problems) 3. no you cannot be shown growing a beard; the stubbles part at least and if you do have a beard you have to follow Disney's guidelines, it has to be well groomed, not too long, etc... 4. yes we point with a minimum of 2 fingers, why? well Link said it. All in all Disney has been an awesome place to work, things happen but hey! at which job don't they...? Keep on with the show guys! Love it!

@Caedus6969 жыл бұрын
no one is officially pronounced dead at a scene anyways, even if a emt or emergency worker finds a corpse, only a doctor can give an official time of death at a hospital.
@levilamont80059 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Cannaday sure that is incorrect, EMT's and Paramedics can pronounce death, we just have a very strict criteria to follow to do so.
@johnqsample51199 жыл бұрын
...Why do they even have that rule? [sweats nervously and glances out window] [Mickey ducks]
@MariusThePaladin9 жыл бұрын
It's common for Asian to do that too. While it's still weird because Disney is obviously strict Chrsitian based, many Asian belief says that if death happens inside a commercial establishment or if a corpse enter it, it will bring bad luck and plunged in to bad business.
@GhostInTheShell299 жыл бұрын
Until Disney lost a major lawsuit, EMT's and Paramedics were not allowed to enter the park. Cast members would load the dying, or dead person onto a discrete small white vehicle with no emergency lights or flashers and casually drive them out of the park to meet with an ambulance outside of the park. After about 10 preventable deaths, the courts ruled Disney did not have the right to refuse Ambulances from entering the park. The number one killer attraction at Disney world, has always been the monorail. As for some reason drunk college kids think they can walk on it. Its killed at least one person every couple years since they built it. There's no conductor, the train does not stop for anything.
@Silentgrace1110 жыл бұрын
My friend was auditioning to be one of the Disney princesses at one of their locations. She told me how you had to stay perfectly in character the whole time, and can't say or do anything that is outside that range. I'd imagine the people playing modern characters wouldn't have too much trouble, but I feel particularly sorry for those playing the older ones, especially those who don't really have much character to work off of (ex: Prince Phillip or Prince Charming. You don't get very much about them personality wise, so it would be pretty limiting to actually play the characters).

The pointing with 2 or more fingers is a precaution in Disney. People come from all over the world and in some cultures, pointing with one finger is severely rude and can be thought of as "putting a curse" on someone. It could be as severe as the middle finger, or even worse.

If a "cast member" in one of the mascot suits (mickey, goofy, etc...) dies, then another cast member has to sit their with their lifeless corpse on a bench until a "cleanup crew" arrives.
