I cannot agree with your closing qualifier though. I find the later seasons much better by, e.g., their near-caricaturisations of chauvinist characters, or by, e.g., the ingenious ways the Rhoda production team advanced niggly social matters, altogether revealing their clever thinkings --- all this while I thought the custom was thereafter all-downhill come Season No. 3 . . .

The first two seasons were best. Rhoda was always so high strung, and her life was so hectic and such a turmoil. She is like a curse in this ep. Hard to believe that man was a cop, he was so accident prone.

Hard to believe that everyone in this other than Julie Kavner and Ray Buktenika are gone now. Ron Silver died a long time even before Valerie did. Ken McMillan and the guy who played Ramon died in the 80s and both were still young.

and it all came from a Dick Van Dyke Episode "The Jinx" , which came from an old Vaudville act. Nothing in the eighties was new, it was a regurgitation of the classics. The Cosby show had episodes where the script was taken straight from Mayberry. Cliff was a doctor instead of sheriff and Opie was now Rudy, Not to mention they were now black.

Carmine Caridi was a really fine talent - he got a really good role on "Phyllis" (another MTM Enterprises show!) and he was great in it. I always thought the move of Phyllis's job from the photo studio to the Frisco city supervisors office was a great move. Sadly, it was not enough to keep it from tanking in the ratings and then, cancellation.

Rhoda is unbearably selfish and self-centered in this episode. It is all about her making herself feel better about herself, she ignores over and over and over again what the man is BEGGING her for, she does not care one smidgen what he wants and needs for his own peace of mind, she only cares about her own self-image. He should have gotten a restraining order several gifts ago.

+Emily Edwards I KNOW!! Added to the fact that no horse chosen and trained for mounted patrol would ever shy at a kid on a skateboard. When you get right down to it, the cop is an idiot for hitching a 1,000-1,200 pound animal to a clothes rack, especially one with wheels. It's a stretch to believe that the officer would dismount to search an office building for the offender who's blocking a sidewalk with a giant rat and a clothes rack. The most he would've done is leave a citation on the rack, rather like ticketing an illegally parked car.
