My father taught me to tie what you call a Windsor when I was five or six years old. He told me that knowing how to tie a man’s tie is a necessary skill for a girl lol. It did come in handy many times in my life. The first three you’ve shown are the ones I go to for my husband and son, but I love the Prince Albert, I do think it’ll be great for a young man.

The Shelby (or Pratt) is a symmetrical knot, similar to the Windsor, but not as bulky (which can be uncomfortable). It gives you a neat, well-groomed look.

I love this segment. I've noticed that people don't care about making the bigger, thinner tie the same length. It takes me a little longer to tie my ties, but the front and back tie have to be the same length for me. Maybe it's OCD:) Great Job, Sir.

What would you recommend for people with 22 inch necks. Even with the four in hand, my rear blade is only about 3 inches long. The half or full Windsor would be nigh on impossible. Are there extra long ties available?
@rhodeswood55139 ай бұрын
Ties can be made for you. I’m sure there will be tie makers who can make a longer length. We can only make in twos from limited silks. Someone like E Marinella that specialises in making individual ties. Alternatively I would have though a store in The US may cater for a longer tie🤝

Your advice is excellent although I don't put a crease in the top of a shirt cuff but roll them on my knee as you do the collar. The wearing of ties is fast disappearing except for smart occasions and the level of clothes care you practise may well not be followed by the younger men. I am a former valet and am completely familiar with your sense of taste and style - it will get you anywhere. Four in hand every time! Hope to pop in when in Harrogate. Roger

The symmetry of a windsor is nice but the width and shortening of it throws it off for me.. Too much symmetry in one place can also highlight dissymmetry in another (like the face!) and that’s not good 😊

Would it be fair to say that the more 'cutaway' the collar, the wider the tie knot should be? Really enjoy your videos btw!
@mrjakobt9 ай бұрын
That‘s a general rule, but rules are meant to be broken. I personally think a four on hand works fine with a cutaway, but a Windsor doesn’t work with a point collar.

On the first one your body is turned away from the camera about 30 degrees and so your hand blocks the movement of the tie and then it makes it more difficult.

How interesting, to me, a Prince Albert is a watch chain that goes from a mid button on the vest and into the pocket watch in the vest pocket. A chain that goes from the button hole to each side, a watch in one and maybe a silver match box or pibe tool in the other side pocket, is thus a Double Prince Albert. And then ofcourse, there is the modern use of the term for body piercings, which I shall refrain from describing here. The guy must have been quite the dapper fellow, giving his name to all sorts of things :)
