Wow. Another cycling reviewer to add to the small group of Peak Torque, Hambini and Trace Velo who actually analyse the product rather than just telling us how great it feels on a ride! Which all of these things do, LOL. Very good. My only thought on the rear wheel is that 99% of consumers do not have the tools or inclination to run through the tests. So we would be oblivious to the issues. Elite saying they would work with customers to repair or replace is a very genuine offer I am sure. But very few people would ever be in a position to complain.

Ridden them all over Mallorca (including the 312), across Pyrenees, Alps, La Marmotte, from Singagpore, thru Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and back to Thailand (7.000 km) - still straight as an arrow and ride wonderfully.

Hi, Glad you found it useful. The issues I found in the wheels are more than likely due to impact, post-production. Whether that happened in the factory, or in transit, is debatable. I have the same wheels, but in the rim brake version for over two years. I didn't check them when new, but after a year of riding I've found the rear wheel slightly out of true. No problem, adjusting two or three spokes, it's solved. Until now, they are great, responsive, stiff yet comfy. Also, I added a little bit of grease to the bearings in the beginning. And beautifull finish goes well with my Time VXS frame.

I’ve had this exact wheel set for about 2 years now and have been absolutely delighted with them. They are super light and feel great while climbing and in group rides. I did have an issue with the front hub tolerance that was only noticed during a bike shop service last summer (it had never caused an issue) however Elite’s customer service was fantastic. They sent me a new hub and spokes and paid for my LBS to put it all together for me. My well trusted LBS thought the wheels were great and that the issue he’d spotted really wasn’t much of one at all but as they were under warranty still I decided to contact them. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Elite and would buy from them again.

Additionally, they have proved bullet proof over 3,000km so far, during which time I have had catastrophic pot-hole impacts destroying a front and a rear tyre (sidewall tears). In both cases, the wheel suffered only minor scuffing, is still true and retained the tyre. I would recommend them to anyone looking for lightweight wheels.

I bought some lower-spec Elite wheels earlier this year, with steep spokes and bearings. I did the same runout tests you did and everything was where it should be. Same with spoke tension. And the bearings had a nice film of grease on them from the factory. Their QC seems to be on point, but there will be some outliers in every production run. I'm glad you gave an unvarnished review and it seems that Elite is open to critical suggestions.

10:45 getting these wheels to under 0.2 radially, laterally and center WITH spoke tension at 5% max, is near impossible. I spent half a day doing these, got it close but it for sure is not 5%, also this cheap tension meter is kinda ... yea not great (the Parktool one sucks also, it's just it depends on where you measure the spoke, how quickly you let go and on top of all that the precision is terrible). I would recommend getting the digital one from Toopre, is not that expensive - 30$ or so and is extremely smooth, consistent and precise, no need for the 450$ top end digital meter. Edit: was dealing with customer service for quite a bit and they are very good!
@ribblevalleycyclistАй бұрын
It's worth watching some of my other wheel videos, they all do better than this, and some get close to perfect. Nepest did very well. Measuring the spoke. I use the rule of 3 & 3. I always put three fingers between the bottom of the tool and the rim, and measure three times. You then take the average. The Toopre digital spoke tool...... I'll buy one and give it a try. Thanks for your thoughts 👍

@@ribblevalleycyclist I did watch quite a few of your videos, always learning something, thank you for all the content! This is only time I felt like commenting because I spent a lot of time on the topic as I couldn't stand that the wheel is not 100% perfect, but after learning a lot about the topic I realized that there is no 100% perfect. And in the end even if someone spends whole day to get it under 0.1 on all 3 metrics, the tire will not be perfect anyway, especially if not new. Anyway, the digital spoke tool, that is a spoke measuring nirvana compared to these mechanical ones, I bet you will love it :)

i am currently waiting a shipment of this wheelset and as i observe the tracking update, it took 22.5 hours of travel from from its origin country to mine. whether it took air logistic or by cargo shipment i do know. in case of air freight, the carbon and alloy contacts of this wheelset may be exposed to high amplitude high vibration resulting to unwanted changes which mr. ribble was talking about. the box may not be damaged because the box was built to absorbed those transit vibrations especially in an express air freight. however the wheelset itself despite the it was secured enough cannot escape this matter. in air freight, this fast oscillating high amplitude vibrations may resonate and alter the tuning of these wheel spokes while sea freight is almost zero existence. this is just a conclusion because we do not know how was the wheelset was transited from its origin to destination.

@ribblevalleycyclist4 күн бұрын
Why?
@Michael-s5i5j4 күн бұрын
@ because the wheel cannot be used without a brake,of course it is built in with a rim brake wheel.
@ribblevalleycyclist4 күн бұрын
@@Michael-s5i5j It's a pointless task. Every rider running disc has to use a rotor, so there is no point in weighing the wheel with a rotor. Additionally, rotors vary in size, compound, density and design, so the weight from one rotor to another can vary massively. This'd be like weighing the wheel with a cassette on it, because we all use a cassette. However, putting the disc on when weighing would give the 'Rim Brake Mafia' something to gloat over.
