I’m an Latina/American married to a Habesha. The Ethiopian culture is different but I don’t think all Americans are not understanding of that.. I agree it’s about maturity but also balance and compromise. Blessings to you all

Black Americans do have culture, it’s not always seen as celebrated or appreciated; yet appropriated by others. I do agree that Black Americans can be seen as being open to absorbing our spouses culture, but that’s because we appreciate culture and take pride in immersive cultural experiences and ways of life.

Points have been made! From what I’ve seen it usually depends on the family so really it’s just a case by case basis. If the family is open minded then things go so much smoother and everyone is happier. It makes me happy to know things worked out smoothly for y’all ❤️

I''ll be honest I used to get somewhat upset about the amount of money my Ethiopian parents would send back to Ethiopia. However, it wasn't because I was "spoiled" or because I was naive about the opportunity in Ethiopia. It was because we were poor in America. We are not rich, so I wanted to know how every $1 was being spent. To find out your parents are dropping a few hundred dollars a month to family in Ethiopia was mind blowing.

2:33 haha, yes. It's from korea. Muk is from Mukda(eat), Bang is from Bangsong(broadcasting). And i was the same when i saw it for the first time, why people see the other people's eating but now i enjoy it. 😂😂 I am coming back to Ethiopia soon, I will say hi to you if I run into you guys, (i know it will hardly happen) 🙂

That rice dish reminds me of dirty rice (without the gravy) and a few other different things. My husband's family is Caribbean and my family is American (black American). We have different customs but similar values. Different food flavors but similar foods. We're different but we're 6 years in and getting along.

I'm American and married a Nepali and it was hard at first but we learn how to immerse our cultures and belief together and it became a wonderful experience. You have to learn to tune others out who don't agree or appreciate your spouse!

Don't worry guys about those who writes negative comments; they are one of the factors who initiate you to work hard and achieve big. With out them you can't grow.

Iam Canadian/ Caucasian married to a Moroccan Amazigh and like you said maturity and understanding is definately a big thing. You definately have to be open to learning on both sides and flex where needed otherwise it won't work.

Great video! I agree with the points made about being open and understanding. It is surprising how resilient our families can be if you show them you really want to be with a person and that they are a good person! I LOLed at Elias comments about family coming to stay for 4 weeks at a time. It’s so common in both of our cultures that when I told my coworkers my mother and father in law were staying with us for 3 months after our wedding they were shocked 😂
