I met Terry Funk in the parking garage of The Center Stage Theater during the time of the feud. I was with my buddy who was in a wheelchair and Terry came strolling in, on foot, from West Peachtree. He came up and shook hands all around. Such a nice guy!! And he was a little Buzzed too! LOL! You could smell the bourbon on his breath! He hung out for just a few minutes, and I told him how much I had enjoyed "Paradise Alley" that was made by and starred Sly Stallone, Terry was great in it as the Heel. But We, my late friend and I, were ringside when he dropped Rick on his head there with a pile driver!!! Some epic times in that venue!! Shook hands with Hogan there too. Gave him "The Grip" and my 5'10" 200lb ass made him look me in the eye anyway!!! LOL!!

You are so Humble Ric, you were an incredible technician in the ring. You had a perfect vertical suplex, back suplex, flying knee drop, snap mares , inside cradle, hip toss, one of the best small packages I have ever seen against the Great Muta at Starcade ‘89, butterfly and double arm suplexes and the best figure Four , you out wrestled most people except Steamboat , you were the man for a reason Ric because you were that damn good Woooooooooooooooo!!!!!

I seen my first riot due to Terry Funk! He was NWA champ and wrestling Dusty Rhodes at the Eddie Graham Sport arena in Orlando Fl. Dusty beat his ass for 20 min's. Terry pulls out something, knocks Dusty out and pins him. The place got super quiet for 5 seconds then exploded. Chairs, beers flying. State trooper got knocked out right in front of me. My brother in law who took my friend and I there was walking by the ring after getting a beer. He hears Terry yell at Dusty to get up, These people are going to kill me! Years later I heard the story from Terry on youtube. I thought my brother in law lied about Terry saying that because I was 14 and the shit was real mama!

Jason Hervey, Patty Mullen, Ken Osmond (Eddie Haskell from "Leave it to Beaver"), and Sandy Scott were actually the judges for the Flair vs. Sting match at the first televised Clash of the Champions. The judges at WrestleWar '89 were Terry Funk, Pat O'Connor, and Lou Thesz.

I was just a kid at the tail end of the territory days. And mine was the AWA before Hogan, Heenan, Oakerland and Ventura left for New York. I didn't know they even left and took me a little bit to realize that they were now working for the World Wrestling Federation. Because of Mean Gene, I thought it was the same wrestling I was watching. And now that I'm middle aged and realize the wrestling history I lived through? I kick myself sometimes for not knowing the other territories but it was harder back then pre-internet. But we always had Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Even now I can't believe it happened in my lifetime. And I'm thankful and grateful that I was able to know about the last year's of the territories. Had cousin's that grew up in Dallas. I'm so jealous. They used to go to the Sportatorium every weekend. So makes me laugh in this video when they talk about not being a fan of West Texas. LOL

Jason Hervey, the Penthouse Pet and Ken Osmond were the judges and it was Clash of the Champions 1. That was Ric Flair vs Sting. Wrestle War 1989 judges were Terry Funk, Pat O' Connor and some promoter. I don't recall if it was Gary Juster.

Terry was originally assigned to ride with and learn from Killer Karl Kox in the early days of his career. Pretty sure that Karl had a major influence on Terry's hardcore style.

Rather watch a match in Amarillo, Hereford, Lubbock, or Clovis than MSG. Everybody came through the Amarillo territory and I mean, just about everybody. Dory Sr was on good terms with just about every promoter and almost all of them loaned their talent to the area. Love Flair, but I seriously believe that this was the most underrated territory in the NWA.

Interesting fact Flair said about getting piledriven through the table by Funk started hardcore wrestling! I would have thought Randy Savage/Lanny Poffo vs. The Rock N' Roll Express where Savage injured Ricky Morton by piledriving him through the timekeeper's table, that this also could have started hardcore wrestling.
