Today's Famous Grave visit, I go to visit the grave of famous actor Richard Griffiths star of The Harry Potter series and so much more.
Richard Thomas Griffiths OBE (31 July 1947 - 28 March 2013) was an English actor of film, television, and stage. He is known for his portrayals of Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films (2001-2010), Uncle Monty in Withnail and I (1987), and Henry Crabbe in Pie in the Sky (1994-1997). Over his career he received numerous accolades including a Tony Award and Olivier Award as well as a nomination for a BAFTA Award. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008.

I can't believe it's been ten years since we lost the brilliant Richard Griffiths.. He had a violent, dysfunctional upbringing and went on to become an internationally acclaimed Shakespearean actor. Then earned an OBE for his services to the British entertainment industry. Talk about rising from the ashes like a Phoenix..One of my favourite movies is Withnail and I, as it's the most hilarious black comedy. The highlight of the film is the wickedly funny, randy old Uncle Monty. Richard steals every scene he's in and his performance was unabashedly outrageous. It's hard to reconcile he's the same actor, who played the no nonsense, dry witted, yet kindly Detective/Chef Henry Crabbe, a few years later in Pie In The Sky. This television series also showcased Richard's diversity as a character actor. It was such a unique police drama, centred around a charming restaurant. Detective Crabbe showed his creative culinary side by getting busy in his kitchen. Yet, also solving seemingly impossible murder cases, while serving mouthwatering dishes from a bygone era each week. The plots were imaginative, with twists and turns galore. My late father loved watching 'the pieman' and said only an accomplished actor like Richard Griffiths could do the role justice..Anyway, I miss my dad and Richard. The world is a poorer place, without people of substance in it. I enjoy watching your videos too and I've subbed. You're always respectful and have such interesting facts about these famous, departed celebrities. Cheers from Australia.

What a lovely little church. To live in a village in uk and have your own church, heavenly. I’ve lived in Australia for over 40 years, homesickness never leaves you, especially when you show me these beautiful places, and believe me they are still beautiful. Hi Paul, like you I come from Portsmouth too. My aunty use to live in St Mary's Road so I often played in Kingston Cemetery with my cousin. When I was in my early twenties I worked in Milton Cemetery for a couple of years cutting grass and digging graves so that has given me a fascination for Cemeteries. So I find your videos are great to watch and very informative so keep up the good work.

Great actor, big character and so sad he no longer is with us. A great little spot to rest in when the dog is asleep! Pie in the sky was fab, set in Old Town Hemel Hempsted in Hertfordshire. He gave us the gift of receiving such great acting with the performances he gave in all he undertook.

I met Richard Griffiths years ago, around the time he was filming the Harry Potter films, he was in the hotel room next door to me and held the door open for me when walking back to the room, he got a call on his mobile as soon as he reached his room door, it appeared to be his agent from the way he was speaking.

Whitehead he was an American actor who was in The Grapes of Wrath and was part of John Ford stock of Actors. He moved here in the 1960’s. ❤

Hello Paul, Thankyou once again for an interesting yet sad commentary on the life of Richard Griffiths. He was a great actor and entertained us for a very long time. So sad that all the flowers on his grave are dead. What about putting a small bunch of flowers on a grave that you visit in remembrance to them to say we shall never forget you. I always liked Richard Griffiths in anything I saw him in but I didn't know he'd had such an interesting life. Being the son of two deaf parents must have been rather challenging. Nice little church too. I assume the bunting is for the coronation?

Hi Paul. Another great video. Seems impossible that it’s ten years since Richard left us. Such a versatile actor. In amongst his vast catalogue of work he stared in an episode of Lovejoy in 1993 called ‘They call me Midas’ where he played Dutch art collector Hans Koopman who bought up collections of up and coming artists, never to see the light of day until they had increased hugely in value. It seemed to be a role made for him, can’t imagine anyone else creating the character like Richard did. Keep ‘em coming!

Thanks again Paul, a great review. He was a very good actor and played the part of a barrister etc very well, he had the demeanour. Again, I find it a bit hypocritical that his grave is marked ‘Beloved’ but yet is very poorly maintained. Even if his relatives live far away, there are contractors who do this type of work.
