Double points friday is often not much jeopardy, since the quality of contestants varies so much. I think it would be more exciting if Friday was Direct points, meaning you get however many points you get in the game. I bet if you test it on your spreadsheet, most weeks will be exactly the same actual outcome, but with the possibility of a super-blowout-friday cinderella story.

I feel like the ideal would be if it was scored based on the scores before the tie break and the tie break only decided the daily winner but had no effect on the weekly scores. If they wanted to give the tie-break winner more points but not risk this happening, i could also see a version of the scoring where they just give an extra point to the tie break winner regardless of how they won and nobody else has their scores affected.

That last is how I had assumed it would work, until the first time i heard this come up. But it's totally consistent, really, that it work the way it does. The tie-break is just another answer smash question, scored like any other. Just explain it when it happens, or once in a while when it happens, so the audience will understand in the moment.
